popular Opinion: Basement hook isnt the best hook anymore

So, why do I not believe that the basement hook is the best hook? Well, the main reason is of the gens as of this moment. Because of how fast they CAN go, giving up the 15-20 seconds to hook someone in the basement (for going into and out of it) can be a difference between a gen getting done or not. The only killers who could benefit are freddy, nurse, billy somewhat, and hag with the Mint Rag. but for most killers, I cannot see the benefit of using the basement compared to a regular hook.

Obviously, if the basement is the only good hook around, then you should use it. But if you have another close hook, It is probably better to just use that.

Edit: changed the title because more people think this way than I thought.

I agree. Unless I have a plan (trapper, near a mostly done gen, some degree of camping etc), or can capitalise on the extra distance survivors have to travel in and out of the basement (spirit, demo etc), I just can't afford the extra time.

I agree, I rarely use the basement - it just loses too much time. I don't camp or tunnel, so there's absolutely no need for me to return to the basement, so I'd rather get to the nearest hook as fast as possible and then continue to pressure the map.

Yup, basement hooks are very rarely worth going for. Gen speeds are too ridicolous.

I mean, technically it is the best hook, since the time for the rescue gets slowed by the stairs, and you could get an advantage of that (basically only if you proxy camp, especially with huntress or trapper). as you said, with current gen time you just lose too much time, unless you want to proxy, maybe near a 3 gen stack, there's no need to aim directly towards the basement.

An unpopular opinion is supposed to be one that most people don't agree with. What you have here is a "popular opinion"

What's a basement hook? I even swapped pgtw for dying light, because I don't have time to kick gens lol

Basement hooks are a trappers treasure. Survivors still fall for it regularly so its a useful failsafe if a game is getting away from you.

Basement hook is good if you want the best hook to defend but outside of that it's really not viable.

The time it takes for you to go up and down stairs can hinder perks like a barbecue and chili and thrilling tremors

It's numerous lockers can make it a very safe place to use decisive strike or head on to deal with Killers.

The time it takes to go down the stairs hook somebody and go back up the stairs can often be helpful for other survivors completing gens you would be surprised how useful an extra 10 seconds on a gen can be.

In general basement hooks are great for Defence not so much for anything else
