Could a killer with the TF2 Spy's power (disguising as any of the 4 survivors) possibly work?
Or would SWF and comms mean (without some very powerful secondary power) the whole concept is doomed?

SWF dooms that concept.

It'd never work thanks to SWFs.

SWF would make that type of killer power bad
3 -
Unfortunately, that's probably right. But I do wonder if it could possibly work if the killer (while disguised) gained the benefit of the disguised survivor's perks (where applicable). In other words, disguising as a survivor with bond gave 36m survivor aura reading to the killer- some neat possibilities there.

Would most likely destroy soloq experience and useless power in swf. Spy works in tf2 due to the chaos of 12vs12 clusterfucks of matches and even in competitive tf2 its barely picked.

"there is an imposter among us"
1 -
to be fair, competetive itself is barely picked by players xD
as a spy main i can assure you though he is a LOT of fun to play, even if he isnt the most powerful.
2 -
SWF would ######### all over this killer, which is unfortunate because it'd definitely be a lot of fun.

Killer sus
2 -
that would never work. the one killer that comes close is legion, they're supposed to look like a normal survivor from a distance. at least in the default outfit.

I'm a pyro guy myself

If you ask me you don't even have to bring up SWF to begin with to start seeing potential flaws with the idea.
Even in TF2 spy can be difficult to play against players that know what they're doing. Even without talking about straight up competitive play (not really the in-game competitive queue, but third-party leagues and services) it gets to the point where the Spy almost needs to strike when their team distracts the enemy to get anything resembling consistent results. And even then it's not really the disguises that let the spy get away with murder, but his ability to have true invisibility while repositioning.
A killer in DBD doesn't have that. The survivors don't have to worry about a big dude with a minigun shredding them and another 2 flying around with rocket launchers while at the same time watching out for the spy that might be behind them. They can 100% focus on whatever action they're doing (generator, hiding, totem, altruism, whatever) and watching out for the killer.
And then on top of that you have SWF. Or depending on how the killer is implemented something as simple as "just crouch randomly when another survivor sees you if you're against the disguise killer, because the killer can't crouch" being popularized as a sign to confirm real survivors.

i know that sounds impossible, but i love both Spy and Pyro.
though Pyro more for his personality rather than his playstyle... i love the airblast though!
1 -
I haven't played in ages, but he was my favorite. Along with his personality, there's something about the flamethrower I enjoy as a weapon.
1 -
yeah, thats true.
honestly i think the absolute best part is the airblast. its super unique and takes quite a bit of skill to be used - and its soooooo satisfying when a Huntsman Sniper shoots at you and you just reflect that arrow straight back at them xD

Guys I think i've come up with a solution against swf for this character.
What if everytime he used his ability everyone on the map would change to the same character with the same cosmetics for everyone and the killer would change into that too. Yes swf could organise themselves and work out the fake one but there would be incredible amounts of scrambling and frantic communication to work it out, and chances are he would be able to come up to you and get a hit by then.
Thoughts?

Easy fix for swf to use
Hey dude is any of you near the hook doing a gen?
No 3x
Ok then its the killer
They can ask each other what they are doing to easily pick the killer apart from their teammates
1 -
It wouldn't work, unfortunately.
Even outside of SWF, there would be some meta in identifying a survivor, like doing an action only survivors can do.

The concept isn't as "Dead on Arrival" as it sounds on face value, but it absolutely cannot be the killer's main strength.
A killer whose power is to imitate a survivor would be terrible and shouldn't even be considered.
A killer whose power is something else entirely, and he just so happens to look like a survivor? That's doable.

Idk i feel like if they some how make it fast pasted then it could be benefitial for good killers who know how to change at appropriate times and trick survivors. Don't think it will ever be as simple as change into another survivor and just walk up to them though.

Or, since the devs are now going for a main ability used with M2 and then also a special ability with Ctrl, they could make this a special ability. Hell, put it on Legion and give us the killer everyone thought we were going to get.

*Killer disguised as Survivor #2 walks with Survivor #1*
Survivor #1: "Hey Survivor #2, are you walking with me?"
Survivor #2: "No."
Killer Power defeated.

Now i want to see a crabwalking spy get looped

As it's been said several times survive with friends groups with make of this killer completely pointless.
If the community manages to come up with a consensus solo players could start doing something like a double teabag and point to prove that person is safe if the person doesn't respond with a similar gesture get the hell away from them.
Also perks like bonds would also destroy the hell out of this killer if someone starts walking up to you but you can't see them with bonds. RUN
It's a fun concept but there's way too much natural hard counterplay to make the killer in anyway shape or form viable

Imagine the endgame chat after 4-man SWF gets trickstabbed. Just make a killer that can oneshot from behind and b-hop to gain speed.

It'd be perfect for a Chucky power.
- His entire "goal" in the movies is to steal a human body. If you give him such a capability as a kind of end-game for his power, giving him the strength of a killer with the agility of a survivor, that'd do the trick.
- The biggest problem with Chucky is that animations with his tiny body would be weird, particularly carrying and hooking. If his power is designed such that Chucky would always be in a "human" body while he's doing those animations, the problem vanishes.

Countered pretty easily by having the common sense to avoid other survivors wherever possible. It'd need more to it otherwise it's just another stealth ability.

I used to play alot of spy hes really fun but i wouldnt say hes not strong its just that in a coordinated enviroment his tools become extremely weak after the first pick.
0 -
yeah you're right Spy is not weak, but he does suffer from all the stuff that such a killer would suffer from here aswell.
coordination, teamwork, gamesense and, worst of all, being called out eigther with the team chat or comms. his entire kit is based around being sneaky and acting unnoticed, with great rewards (instakill) waiting for him if he can do that, but harsh punishments (near death experiences) should he be found out.
and if we're being honest, Sniper outclasses Spy in basically everything.
He has an always available oneshot (headshot / zoomed in headshots deal enough damage to kill anyone fired at) and he doesnt even need to get himself in danger for that ability. (though spy is great for calling out enemy defense setups, which would be more of a passive role)
as you said, Spies usually get killed right after they get a pick. granted, they dont need to have a large open space for them to work, but after a knife kill you are left vulnerable - no disguise, loud scream from the guy you stabbed and you're probaply in the middle of the enemy forces.
So he isnt "bad" (i dont think TF2 has any bad classes tbh, they all have their thing going for them that makes them unique and strong), but he is not fit for an competetive environment eigther (which is why you rarely see Spies in the small competetive scene TF2 has)
and to get back on topic of this post: such a killer would be suffering the same problems as Spy in those scenarios. he cant enter a place with the original around, strange movement patterns would be noticed by good players and SWF can immediately call him out, hardcountering the entire kit.
from a gameplay perspective, he would be very similar to Ghostface, now that i think about it...

That concept probably couldn't work, but a killer with a vampire-kinda power - IE: mind controlling a survivor to do their bidding - could.
Example, Killer uses a power that requires eye contact. That Survivor then gets a red light and has a terror radius.
In the next 60 seconds, he needs to do one of 3 things: 1.) Inflict a wound upon himself, 2.) Inflict a wound upon someone else - via a quick 3 second heal (meaning they couldn't do this to someone who didn't let them) or 3.) Regress a gen by X amount by using a special 'sabatage' power.
If the survivor fails to do any of that, killer gets a permanent buff that's almost never worth it.
And you just add some things to make the power non-exploitable from the killer side, like "can't have it on more than 1 survivor, can't attack that survivor w/o cancelling the power", etc.

I'd like to play it. That'd be fun regardless, especially if you could change into objects and set pieces as well.
Prolly be lowest on the killer ranks for efficiency but in terms of feeling great it'd be through the roof.

There's another killer I'd like to see. :)

Not really, useless against SWF, too strong against Solo. The perk stealing stuff on paper looks great but on action is not good except for Kindred which would be totally broken, the rest of the aura reading Survivor perks are rarely picked nowadays and/or dont really benefit the Killer in any way.
