Part of the problem with that situation is if the killer is proxi-camping or Yo-yo camping. They move just out of the terror radius of the survivor wait a few seconds, then come straight back. Sometimes it's hard to time the saves if the killer is employing these strategies.
I would suggest running Kindred.

Yes. This is only acceptable if someone will go into second stage if you don’t unhook them, imo. I’d rather be farmed before second than left if those are my only two options.

how about sticking to the gen and check the killer behavior first, before rushing to the hook? But that simply doesn't work with randoms, there is always at least one guy farming the easy BPs. I mean, it is a 1.25 sec action granting 1500 BP. That is less than 10th of the time you need for a hex totem! not even talking about gens!

I think the most annoying part for me is
when I actually want people to be altruistic and save me they usually just end up crouching around the map or working on gens with other people when someone else is clearly being chased and I end up dying or slipping to second stage

When I want you to focus on objectives because I literally just got hooked apparently everyone and their grandma decides that they want to come over and save me to the point when no one is doing objectives or I get hooked farmed and at that point I can't blame the killer for tunneling me

if you're about to hit struggle otherwise and the killer doesn't have an insta-down, I'm popping you off. Don't sandbag me later for doing something that I really didn't have to do (there are overall efficiency reasons for doing it too, though).
