why do survivors do the ''gen blowing up'' animation when they touch a gen sometimes?

Known visual bug since last patch. Hopefully will be removed next patch.

No i dont think its a bug, there is a killer perk wich do that (the one that exhaust surv on gens) and also the surv perk that dont explode gens when they fail a skillcheck.
Edit : Dragons grip do that too i juste remember

Pretty sure it is a bug. The killer perk your referring to, Mindbreaker, doesn't cause a surviovr to act as though the gen exploded silently, neither does Dragons Grip. And Feng's Technician perk causes the gen to explode silently but that doesn't cause the visual of a failed skill check either.

- Mindbreaker doesn't cause this to happen
- Neither does Dragon's Grip. Dragon's Grip causes survivors to scream, similar to Infectious Fright or a madness level up from The Doctor.
- Technician causes the generator to shake like it's holding in a sneeze, not for the survivor to act like they missed a skillcheck.
- It's a bug.

No it's not Dragon's Grip. That one makes you scream and you become Exposed.
This one you just come up to a gen and you act like it explodes but nothing else happens.

Interesting bug indeed, I've been wondering about this myself. Perhaps it occurs (or, is prepped to occur) if a Survivor stops repairing right at the exact moment a Skill Check was about to occur. I know you'll blow the gen if you let go immediately after a Skill Check pops up but I'm talking about letting go of it right at the exact same moment, the game queues up that animation but can't run it if no survivor is on the gen, and so the next Survivor that touches it triggers the animation but there's obviously no skill check, sound, or visual.

Fun fact: This triggers Dead Mans Switch. I was really confused when it happened to me and the Gen was blocked afterwards for like 5 seconds.

Yeah it knocks you off a generator for a second; so it can be gameplay disrupting at times.
I've had myself get hit by thrilling because of it too.

Oppressed Alliance animation bug. It's more to do with the code though.
