Ok I'll bite... how would you do it?

How would you nerf iron will so that its not useless or niche?

PLEASE for the love of all that is holy don't put some ridiculous downside or nerf to make it terrible. We still should have strong but fair perks. Please be reasonable and don't nerf it into the ground.

Change its effect to Off The Record's, and then change Off The Record's effect to something else.

Give 3 tokens, everytime you're injured + in TR. You consume a token. A token gives you mute for 1min, after that you make noise again and have a cool down of 1min.

  • I would make it so it only activates in a chase.

Okay, how would you change Off the Record so that it captures the spirit of Iron Will without being too strong/weak?

Well it would be a nice start if it actually only reduced grunt sounds instead of making you completly mute.

Other then that i would say a minute and 30 seconds duration and then it deactivates untill you enter the injured state again ( either from healthy, slug or unhook)

Have it atleast have the cost of healing every now and then

I was going to say same thing. Just have survivors make same sounds they make while healthy.

Standing still for 3/2.5/2 seconds eliminates all breathing and grunts of pain made by the survivor. And scratch marks you may have left behind will disappear twice as fast.

This effect persists for 3 seconds after moving

Iron Will then goes on a cool down of 60 seconds

I'm gonna be honest I use Iron Will ALL THE TIME on survivor because the benefit it brings is just so immense. I really feel like as much as people complain about "second chance" perks like DS and DH and UB, Iron Will gives you way more second chances than any of them, and while I like running it, I think it needs to take a hit.

If anything I'd say reduce it to 25/50/75% reduction in sounds. It would still be the vast majority of noise, but not silence.

    I wouldn't.

Iron Will is fine. Its a very strong perk and it has a very simple premise. And it throws killers off sometimes, but, whats the point of nerfing a perk that's... working as intended? Its only useful in a few situations, if you got constant eyes on scratch marks, the survivor, and can predict well, you get people with Iron Will just fine.

You don't need to nerf perks just because they're strong, that's silly.

    I think they should:

    1. Make Iron Will survivors still breath when injured.
    2. Put Iron Will on a timer of 30-60 seconds of complete silence, after which injured sounds slowly return to normal volume over another 30 seconds or so. And have it reset when healed. This gives some incentive to not stay injured the entire game and some downside to the perk while still retaining its use in chase.

Maybe the breathing bug fix would be enough. I think one or the other change would be healthy.

Add a duration. 60s is fair enough considering it's free and requires no effort to get.

Only removes grunts of pain, but they still breathe. Makes it so survivors still require oxygen like actual humans. Possibly even make breathing 50% louder to balance out to grunts of pain

    quite easy, actually.

make it so injured moaning =/= the survivors breath.

meaning that an injured Survivor is going to be doing both (instead of having the normal breathing replaced with the injured moans, as is currently the case), while Iron Will is only going to reduce the moans.

we can fix the Perk without actually touching the Perk.

When standing or crouching completely still as survivor, your grunts of pain noise is reduced by 80/90/100%.

This makes it so if you’re HIDING from a killer and not running around then you won’t make noise. But if you start running then you resume making pain noises.

Make it only hide grunts of pain, not breathing

    Boom

I personally don't think it needs nerfed. It still doesn't make footsteps quiet, and they are extremely consistent forms of tracking still. Bringing a perk slot so you are a little quieter seems fair especially since again, you can still definitely be heard.

If I were to change it, make iron will only work outside of chase, and at the start of a chase for 15 seconds. At the end of the 15 seconds, it is turned off until you escape chase again.

Like I said, I would make Iron Will have Off The Record's effect. So what to do with Off The Record after Iron Will has stolen its effect? Well, I'll tell you.

Off The Record could be changed to "If you're unhooked or unhook yourself in the killer's terror radius, your grunts of pain are reduced by 50/75/100%. Your sounds return to normal once you're outside of the killer's terror radius for 10 seconds. (If the 10 second timer gets interrupted by you returning to the killer's terror radius, the timer gets reset.) If you unhook another survivor in the killer's terror radius, they get this same effect."

It works as an anti-tunnel perk, it's limited, and it affects teammates. I think this would see play.

Revert the buff that makes Stridor and some addons that modify sound useless against it. Specially now that spirit will be nerfed stridor can go back to what it was.

I don't know. Why you asking me about Off The Record when we're talking about Iron Will?

Because the OP specifically talked about Iron Will, not Off the Record.

Just make it so you make the same sounds of when you're healthy. Breathing, running sounds, etc.

    I wouldn't. IW is fine.

99% of the perks are garbage and useless, both sides so i don't think it's something that worries the devs lol.

Proof ? They continue to release new perks again and again and again to the point there is no sense anymore.
