Can someone explain NFTs?

There's so much outrage at BHVR over this NFT thing but I have no idea what an NFT is and why everyone's so angry.

I have never heard of an NFT in my life I googled it but I don't understand it.

I guess NFT is a 'voucher' for a specific DLC.

It can be bought/sold back to increase his market value.

But I can be wrong about that...

Basically, imagine that leaving your car running in your garage causes it to solve sudoku puzzles.

When it solves a million sudoku puzzles, it gets a token. That token says "Yes, you completed a million sudoku puzzles," and is utterly unique.

You can then attach this token to something, like say, a digital piece of artwork or a 3D model that says "I am the unique owner of this product."

However, it takes a full tank of gas for your car to solve one sudoku puzzle, and it has to solve a million to get a token. Your car puts out all the regular harmful gasses and stuff.

Now, a bunch of people all over the world have bought up cars and left them idling to produce these tokens. They buy up gas, they rent out parking lots, causing actual gas prices to go up for people who use their cars for transportation and people are unable to buy quality cars at the same price because demand is so high. Parking lot salesmen start cutting down more rainforest land to make room for more cheap parking lots.

These people try to convince you that you definitely want to give them $350 for a high-resolution PNG on the internet, and that this PNG is unique to you and only you "own" it.

Meanwhile, people are getting cancer from the emissions and the rainforest is dying and global warming is definitely increasing and you "own" a picture that someone right-clicked and hit "Save As" to make a copy of because NFTs don't actually do anything.
