I don't really understand the mentality of quitters in DbD

Does anyone else understand it? Why quit, get no points for a match, and take a 5 minute matchmaking ban, just because you're unhappy that a killer downed you a little quicker than you had hoped, or because the killer tunneled you or is camping your hook, or because a killer is using a perk that negated your dead hard, or whatever? Even if you're know you're going to be tunneled and hook camped until your death, why quit, it's actually faster to wait for the death on hook, helping your team get some gens done for free in the process, and then get another match, than it is to quit and take a 5 minute matchmaking ban. I just don't get it.

    It's usually not about quitting.

    It's about being BM.

You are basically throwing a sulk because you might have had a more challenging game than usual.

Honestly, if I were in charge of the system, I'd introduce something like LeaverBuster in LoL. People who persistently DC would wind up with lengthy bans and eventually a perma.

Like, I understand that sometimes you have internet issues, or a rare crash. I even understand occasionally DCing after you get sent to RPD or Haddonfield multiple times in a row. Sometimes you have to DC, for example when a hacker traps you in a game and goes AFK.

However, with how commonly people DC in my games (and I'm not even particularly cheesy/nasty unless you BM me) this cannot possibly be a rare occurrence. It's so bad that some people in SWFs will even tactically DC to give their friend the hatch or to break certain killer perks (NWO/BW etc. that rely on hooks).

Have been playing the game recently? There is a hacker in like every game, every second game, and you can't even make a smurf account to get away from them because the hackers that get banned just make new accounts - so their are hackers all over the new player games as well.

Maybe you just didn't notice because you didn't take the time to learn the natural details of everything in the game to catch "subtle hackers".

You are exaggerating. Even the pretty high MMR streamers barely encounter overt hackers, and I see maybe 1 every 100 or so games at my intermediate MMR. Tofu was actually talking about this yesterday, and they seldom pop up (generally at ultra high level MMR).

Regardless, this does not explain the ridiculous rates of DCs I experience in my games (usually early on) and absolutely does not excuse it.

When you see how much killers tend to tunnel and camp lately, you can understand why some survivors rage quit. Its like.. you can give a ######### about it after 1, 2, even 3 or 4 times happening, but lately almost all killers camp and tunnel at the start of the match.. So if it happen in 80% of the games you play you will get annoyed and i think everyone would get.

There are a lot of reasons that people quit or you may think they quit.

    1. The epidemic of bad killers who camp. Anybody who actually wants to be able to play the game, but can't because they have been hooked and the killer won't, they just stand close to the hook and even if a player comes over injured they will just leave them to get one hook. If the survivor is solo queued, why should they sit on hook for a people they do not know. In the same vain you can add toxic players that camp thinking it is fun.
    2. The rage quiting survivor who quits because they believe their team of survivors are bad, maybe one or two have been downed before the first gen, or they have been downed and fear they will be tunnelled and camped, or just think they are out classed.
    3. The rage quitting killer, the one who is looped while gens are being done, maybe just having a bad game, or maybe the type of person who ends up camping if the get that lucky down, but they can't because the survivors are able to evade them (what a survivor is supposed to do). No chance of a kill, don't want to lose, DC and take the hit.
    4. They need to do something, maybe they feel ill, thought they could play but can't. Maybe they are young and their parents call them, or they have a family and end up having to leave.
    5. Hardware / Software problem. Lets be honest, the connection to the DBD servers is not great or the most secure. Add in the game network such as Steam or PSN and you add another layer to worry about. Then you have the ISP, network issues in some places can be bad. Then you have the hardware that it runs on, PC's freeze and crash.
    6. Cheats. The scourge of DBD.

"If the survivor is solo queued, why should they sit on hook for a people they do not know."

In that case, why bother helping in any regard for people you do not know? If you are that selfish, why not just queue for killer? What are you possibly getting out of survivor play? Dank QTEs?

Didn't found a single hacker so far. Or they were so bad i didn't understood they were hacking.

Tilt should be punished. I don't care how stupid/ego quitter players are. Stackable ban is a good option. And I agree with StarLost, it should end with perma ban.

Stupid excuses like u don't like players/killers/maps etc needs to go. It's not an excuse to betray your teammates and ######### on hook leaving survivors in 3v1 scenario cause u don't like something.

I think the same thing, but I see it quite a bit. There are people play survivor that will dc when they are hooked, because they don't care. Many killers have come one here because they have seen it, they get downed first and then DC, or about to go on hook and just DC, instead of trying to delay things or just die on hook.

Then you get the ones who go in and hide all game, only to run to the gate when it opens, no gens done, no saves and or heals, just a clean escape. Why? because they are selfish. They don't care if people are still in the game, on hooks or being chased.

It's a casual game. There's no meaningful reward for staying in a match other than enjoyment. Bp gains is insignificant over a single trial. Time-outs just tell the player it's time to switch to Civ 5.

If players don't like a match, they'll just skip to play a better one because they simply can.

Should've not queued up then? Understandable. As is undersrandable that DbD is a game with a huge variety of gameplay which can range from fantastic to miserable. Like in any abusive relationship, we're clinging to the good memories when we click the ready button, forgetting that 80% of the time the game is actual #########.

Yes it has got pretty bad in this department. I swear half my solo lobbies has someone give a free win. Solo's need everyone to participate or they have no shot in hell. Had AFK Claudette in my last game last night...Pig noticed she was AFK and slugged her (I'm fine with that), unfortunately the Pig still felt the need to tunnel back to hooks and my team felt the need to keep wasting time healing the AFK Claud. Waste of a game.

They probably think they're denying their opponent the win.

Sore losing explains 95% of ragequits. I have zero sympathy for people who ragequit, they’re selfish jerks ruining the game for four other people when they do it.

And yes, there are noticeably fewer disconnects when the DC penalty is turned on. When the penalty is off the number of ragequits can be pretty ridiculous.

Most DC's are because of cheaters, poor performance, and bugs.

Doubtful, since most DCs from my experience happen after a survivor gets downed or a killer loses gens.

Their teaching the killer a lesson 😂 or the killer is teaching the survivors a lesson.

It's their way of saying you didn't kill me or you don't get to escape.

  • dugman

Totally untrue. Virtually all the disconnects and ragequits I see are immediately after downs or grabs or hooks. These are bug or computer performance or hacking related at all.

I had a game yesterday, 3 gateaux and 2 survivor cakes. One survivor decides to DC just before their third hook... for what? To BM me?? I already got my BBQ stack, and with the gateaux in play, that's hardly gonna make a dent.

    I seriously don't get it

You don't understand one of the simplest most basic forms of human emotion? Anger. Anger is why people quit.

Sometimes is faster and less painful to eat a 5 minute penalty than being dragged into a 15-20 minute slugfest against Twins (for example).

So a killer chasing you is reason to rage quit? No such thing as tunneling. Killers are just chasing the easiest kill or the douche that keeps FL clicking them for no reason.

    I don't think so.

I have maybe 1 'is this guy hacking or am I just terrible today?' game every day or two, but it could easily be the latter rather than the former.

I encounter 1 overt hacker...maybe once a fortnight. I generally just AFK if I see them, not going to dignify them by trying to play against hacks. Granted, I'm likely significantly lower MMR than you are, but I don't see many when Otz or Tofu stream either. They occasionally have a 'is this survivor hacking, no wait she just picked a really weird perk combination' moment.

This all said - yeah. I wish there was a way to detect and MAC ban every hacker in DbD. But hacks are so damn sophisticated now. For maybe 40-80 bucks a month, I can buy a hacking suite for nearly every competitive game out there.

I would stop playing dbd too if I was playing on the Switch and got downed by a Killer 30m away

I keep telling you guys- there are a lot of kids and teenagers playing this game. Don’t get me wrong, plenty of adults ragequit and plenty of minors play clean- but we have a lot of immaturity in our community. I personally believe a lot of the toxic behavior we see are coming from kids. Whenever someone ragequits, look at their profile. You’ll see a trend. I’m on Xbox and I see a lot of default pics (which usually indicates a kid without a phone to use custom pics) and they’re now currently playing Dragonball Z, Fortnite, or Minecraft. Yes, I know adults play those too, but if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck…

I'll admit I've been seeing more people quit because of bad teammates although hey easier killer games so trade off

  • Volcz
    Volcz Member Posts: 1,188

I can sum it up for you if you'd like, based on role.

Good survivors --> Bad survivor teammates are the main reason if they do D/C. Its rarely anything to do with the killer. Even if they camp/tunnel, most good players can recognize why its happening or the strategy behind it. But there's no valid reason for 3 other teammates to not even be on gens, but just doing the most useless things and wasting time. Its very annoying, especially if you have aura reading perks like Bond or Kindred and people still play like complete point sluts or cowards (excuse my language but it is what it is).

Killers --> When either their perks get deleted/found early game or they are just getting played with like a chew toy by the survivors.

IMO, frustrating teammates are the more valid reason to D/C as you're on a team and need to mostly cooperate and help each other to get to end game.

Killers can still turn a game around even with deleted perks like Undying and/or Ruin. But the same can't be said about a team of survivors with only 1 person who focuses gens, while the others not only get found but get into chases that last a total of 20 seconds.

So yea, not really trying to defend survivors but like any 'team' game, you have to do well together or be selfish and try to get hatch.

I left as a killer for a few times because of frustration and toxic attitude of survs. I started playing in less than a week ago and I got stacks of 4 players trolling with flashlights, some gimmick moves ect. At some point I feel like I'm done and I just quit.

And yeah, game gives penalties and they grow stronger the more you quit games

I just leave when the match isn't fun anymore. Garbage map, annoying survivors, a bajillion pallets and 3 strong tiles chained? Leave Game. Survivors do it all the time and nothing has been done to stop them, so I do too. Don't care about the matchmaking lock, I'll just go play something else until it runs out whether that's 3 minutes or 3 hours.

DCs make up like half of the funniest moments in this game though. And as others have said, you can’t force a player to stay in a game they don’t want to. Not without them throwing or AFKing anyways.
