Can you get banned for being AFK in games that you don't want to play?
Asking for a friend, of course
My friend plays this game every day and usually once in 2 days meets certain squads that are not particularly enjoyable to play against. These people usually try to abuse certain game mechanics like locker saves, while being quite toxic in-game and most of the time in the endgame chat. Sometimes there are flashlight macros, that kinda deem the game unenjoyable.
My friend thought of 2 ways to deal with these squads and preserve her/his mental health, by afk'ing the match to end it asap.
Is this something my friend can get banned for, or by pressing "ready" you are basically forced to play the match?

It's been confirmed that going AFK in too many games is a punishable offense if enough people report you for it (it has to be more than just one or two games, though).
15 -
Yeah but how long will it be till all killers do this just cause of the broken system so far
2 -
Not my problem.

I have done and never got banned. I have teamup with survivors and got reported a lot and never got banned.
I wouldn't really care, good reason to have a break :D
I have a rule, validated three times = afk.

I’m a killer main and I never go afk barring some real emergency, it’s disrespectful to the other players.
4 -
I AFK when I confirm a hacker in a trial.
4 -
Dude you don't even get banned for hacking.
No you will not get banned, farm shards and make a macro to afk farm easier. Do it in your sleep and never pay for a shards cosmetic again.
7 -
Better hope they respect back then or else that's kinda pointless.

If the other players are jackasses that’s their issue, not mine. I just play the game normally regardless.
5 -
I respect them enough to not dc. afk if they are a-holes.

Honestly if they’re ######### it makes it even more fun to get hooks on them. And sometimes it’s their cockiness that gets them killed.

No, you will not get banned for going AFK after you feel you've lost or they're being obnoxious. Go sit in a corner, watch some youtube until they leave and move on. Nothing to worry about.
They say that if you get reported for AFKing enough it'll be looked at but it'd have to be a metric ton. It's also more macro AFKing I imagine they'd take a dislike to and even then I've personally never seen anyone banned for even that. I imagine people have but it's certainly not the norm or talked about much.
An AFk report every now an then will likely get thrown out the same as a report for teabagging.

You wont get banned for being AFK unless you do it very often and many many times. Contrary what some people believe in here for some reason.

If they are just there to "have some fun", maybe sabo squad with breakout, or some classic flashy saves, it can be annoying, but I will take it. But there are certain borders I expressed in the post itself, and when those are crossed, I just don't feel like it. Also, these games would usually go on for 30 minutes...
2 -
Yeah I haven’t come across a group using an exploit to keep the match going indefinitely against me yet but I’m sure that’s annoying.
0 -
Its confirm you can get ban but if this was real i would have got ban a ton of time already
0 -
People stand AFK in front of the gates when they're getting destroyed or bullied and open the gate ASAP.
I've never seen anyone mention getting banned for it.
3 -
I always afk if I can tell it's going to be a toxic bully game and here I am years later, not banned
1 -
Against the sweatiest swf I have 0% chance to do any damage against I just stare at the exit gate switch.
1 -
Just afk, you ll be fine.
0 -
Yes. If you don’t want to play, don’t queue up and ruin the game for 4 others.

If I'm not having fun in a match, I go AFK. I've never been banned for it. I've had survivors disconnect, though, and I thank them generously for the lovely free BP (in my head, because I'm on console with messages disabled).
2 -
I hope you do.

I have to go AFK a lot against unskilled survivors because my choice is either keep playing and dragging the match out even after I've maxed my points, or leave them alone so they get the gens done. I'm not going to kill them, but why should I extend a match that's already gone on for over 15 minutes to be 30+ minutes just to avoid AFKing? That sounds stupid and miserable.
Or if my aim is off, I start throwing hatchets at trees as Huntress trying to practice my aim. Right now, I'm loading into matches for the exclusive purpose of practicing chainsawing through tiles as Bubba. Since I'm not technically AFK in those scenarios, is it okay? Because I'm still not interacting with the survivors whatsoever, but there's no "practice" mode in DbD where I can do this without loading into matches.

I have a killer friend who AFKed for more than 100 hours. So, yea. It's not cool to do it tho because you will face wayyyyy lower mmr opponents and waste a lot of survivor time but you won't get banned for that.
Also I am surprised this thread is not closed yet. Usually mods don't like when this behavior is talked about.

Well its not really bannable. Even though doing it 100 in a row should be thats simply too much.
People do it that much to farm iri shards, not to lower their MMR.
And if someone does it to lower their MMR that is kinda sad. Not only you get new survivors and learn nothing from them, but also its a waste of time since MMR is very inconsistent

Technically speaking? Yes. It counts as non participation.
Realistically speaking? No. Not unless you are basically botting out dozens of games every night to farm shards.
Usually, in matches I don't want to play out, I'll set my own objectives. 'Kill x survivor who teabagged me' is a favorite. Another is 'hook everyone at least once'. I'll AFK matches out where people are deliberately stalling the game out, hacking or playing hide and seek.
Not really exploits, but I see the following being used like this.
- Some maps have really bad hook spawns, where with a single offering and a well placed sabo, you can almost permanently cause an unhookable deadzone over a pretty wide area of the map. Combine this with boons, bodyblocking, flashlights and you can basically stall a game out forever if you just 99% the final gen.
- Two people with flashlights can hold the match hostage until they are depleted by abusing dual lockers.
- People can hide in lockers and around the map, while avoiding AFK crows. On some maps it's almost impossible to find them.

So SWFs can conspire and report every killer they don't like as "AFK" and therefore ban them? Like "let's all report every spirit and artist as AFK". I don't think it's how it works, otherwise the forum would be full of "why the hell I was banned" threads.
0 -
Not to be that guy, but you know, if hackers can get away with flying around and holding lobbies hostage without much fear, you really do not need to worry about going afk.
1 -
Devs don't ban without video evidence, of course.
0 -
Unless the frequency you go AFK might make someone think you're basically AFKing for shards, I doubt you'd ever get in trouble for it.
Unless you're actually doing that (in NO way saying you are), the only way you could possibly get close is if you had extremely loose rules for what makes you no longer want to play. Talking straight up "I will afk unless I get one of the 3 maps I want, yet I refuse to use map offerings for some weird reason :)" levels of pickiness.
Firstly, you actually need to be guilty of what you're reported for.
Secondly, they need to provide video evidence.
Thirdly, you need to afk a lot to even have a chance of a ban. As said, pretty sure the only reason it's even theoretically bannable is to stop people from afk farming shards on a consistent and systemic level.
1 -
I'd say you have to be many games AFKing. Like, 100 games in a row without playing.
0 -
Well yes, they can.
These reports will almost certainly be ignored. They would likely need multiple videos of you AFK, and by 'multiple' I mean 'dozens'. I know that sometimes I butt-queue (queue up and then forget I was queued up) or queued and got called away. I've never even been warned.
0 -
I've seen this one guy in my servers who AFK's all the time for hours a day and has been doing it for at least 1 year and yet he's still not banned so I'd probably say no even if people say you will.
0 -
I got temp banned for answering my door which took maybe five minutes and that was the first time i did that
0 -
Because you DC.
0 -
No I didn't I left the game where it was and when I came back it said I was afk for to long and made me leave then banned me for it
0 -
This sounds weird.
I've had moments where I didn't realize I was queued and came back to the 'exit' scene. Never even been warned.
