Casual vs Comp mode with different mechanics

Maybe you think you should be able to play however you want and noone else's fun is your responsiblity! Maybe you think players should actually show some basic respect for the other humans they're playing with! Maybe you think the game mechanics should enforce the latter, but it might impact balance!

There's been a lot of talk about casual and competitive game modes, but I've always heard them discussed as separate queues for a functionally identical game. They don't have to be.

Competitive mode can literally be the game as it now for all your purists - killers can camp and tunnel as much as they please, but you can earn a shiny badge showing off how amazing you are at the game.

Casual mode is for the rest of us - we can have hard-coded game rules that "ruin the balance" for all you comp killers. My personal favourite idea is "survivors are immune to damage for 30 seconds after being unhooked, but do not have collision in this time. This effect is shown by highlighting the survivor in white and ends if they take a conspicious action". We can throw on something like "hook timers dont go down (ever, no time limit)" if the killer is within 30 meters of the hook and no other survivors are - unless everyone else is already downed obviously. But whatever other STRONG anti-camp/tunnel effects you can think of might work too - not things that go "we don't really want you to do this but you still win the game because of it", but things that just grab you and say "no, you can't ruin the game".

DBD is a huge game. Either both modes have enough population that they can exist fine alongside eachother, or one of the modes dies and we can answer the question once and for all about whether people consider these playstyles remotely fun or acceptable.

If BVHR ever creates "competitive" mode, it should be without perks for anyone and no voice comms on Discord or whatever the app du jour will be.

I don't see why any killer would choose to queue up for casual mode.

I get why people don't like tunneling/camping, but you guys really don't play any killer to understand why such things are often done.

I would go the other way... Everything is allowed. All the perks, all the addons, all items. And it was done before. See this: https://youtu.be/NpbkGmt-C9o

It could go both ways. No BNP, no beefy toolboxes, no proofs, no green/violet medkits, etc.

How could the devs enforce a comm ban? However players would connect with each other, be it Discord or Xbox Live or whatever, any such app is outside of their control entirely.

I agree. Expecting anyone to use the honor system for 20 minutes is too much to ask. Hopefully no perks allowed would help mitigate that a little bit.

I'm literally a killer main, so that kinda misses the mark. The killers who want to play a fun game and not just win at any cost will queue casual. I personally suspect that all killers will eventually when they realise that they actually get a game instead of a 20 minute queue trying to find people who enjoy being camped on the first hook.

You say that, but there's no incentive for a killer to queue up for casual, because all casual does is nerf killers. It's not even about winning at any cost. Sometimes survivor actions forces your hand into tunneling or camping. And now you want to create a mode to nerf taking advantage of survivor mistakes.

No killer is going to willing queue up for a mode that nerfs them without any compensation. All that will happen is killers will stick with competitive mode. Competitive mode is already the same as normal queueing is now so there will be survivors to match with, meaning the only people picking casual mode are survivors who want an easier game which they will never find.

If the devs were to ever implement a competitive mode (which I hope they do not), that would be the one with restrictions and extra rules, not the casual mode.

The casual mode would just be the game as it is. The quick play, the default experience. The competitive mode would be where you get a bunch of extra rules and limitations to enforce fair and dynamic play.

No killers would queue up for it unless the game was rebalanced for 12 hooks

Why? I'm a killer main, and it's my suggestion. It's not like the unhooked survivor can do anything. No gens. No healing. Not even bodyblocking. Just don't tunnel them out of the game lol.

    I'm ok with a unranked/ranked modes...

Unranked: all perks, Items, addons and Offerings can be used

Ranked: most of the perks, Items, Addons and Offerings can be used

I would add Perkless as a separate gamemode (cause I feel doing that will get more people to play)
