"Just drop your item" is not a Counter for Franklin's (and that's fine!)
I don't like going against Franklin's Demise as survivor (but I recognize it does have its place and understand why killers run the perk) When I mention I don't like it, people often say to counter it by simply dropping the item and picking it back up later. While that certainly works at making sure you don't lose charges on your item, there are numerous downsides:
-If you're using a flashlight or sabo toolbox, you need to have those items within a few meters of the killer when someone goes down in order to get any value from them, or (in the case of flashlights) be in chase. It's unrealistic to pick up the item in that case and get any use from it.
-If you're using a key for aura reading, you're likely going to want to use it in chase to avoid teammates or check the killer's mindgames. Again, the use case makes it useless to drop
-If you're using a map, the item only works if you're running around the map observing things with it. Another example of an item you can get no value from dropping (also who uses maps anyway?)
-If you're using a repair toolbox, often people use the box immediately to get an early start on gens, so they don't need to drop it as it's empty within 30 seconds. however...
-If you're dropping the toolbox to finish off a later gen, you need to either hope the toolbox is near one of the final gens or go out of your way to stealth to the box and then to a gen, which requires luck or a time loss to traversing the whole map
-If you brought a medkit, you need to stealth over to wherever the medkit is (while injured) in order to get your heal. This poses the risk of being caught and may waste more time than simply having someone else heal you.
In basically any scenario, the supposed "counter" to franklins ends up with the killer getting value out of the perk anyway. Honestly, that's perfectly fine - if a Killer wants to use one of their perk slots to deal with items, that's understandable; items can be very annoying and being rid of them makes the game easier to control and therefore often more fun for killer. Just don't pretend that "just drop the item" is a counter when often it means you're still getting no value from the items and there's more time wasted.

I personally don't mind Franklin's. I don't usually keep track of my item anyway and often don't notice I've lost it. Still, I'll remove the item (usually brown medkit) from my loadouts when I'm sent into a lobby where everyone else has items. Wouldn't want to killer to get nervous and decide to go as hard as possible because of a couple of items, haha.
As for maps, I do use them sometimes ! I'm very bad at remembering where the gens are unless they're in very predictable spots (like on Dead Dawg Saloon, beloved map <3). It beats having to waste a perk slot on Deja Vu or other gen aura perks. I haven't needed to bring any in a while though, as I've started using Aftercare and seeing my teammate work on a gen is just as useful as seeing the gen's aura.

Franklin's Demise doesn't really have a counter other than using the item before the killer can hit you (maybe).

Stop relying on items then.

Not sure what you meant by this comment tbh, I didn't say that I rely on items or that franklins is unfair - I said I don't like going against it but I understand why people use it and agree it has a place in the game.

I wouldn't put any stock/concern into anything they say, judging by their previous posts.

I don’t feel like franklins is even good enough of a perk to need a counter. Why would someone waste a perk slot to counter an unbalanced match from people stacking like medkits when they could just dodge that lobby for a more fair one? If I’m on survivor and the killer is running franklins I honestly feel like they’re wasting a perk slot. Not encouraging lobby dodging but people also deserve fair matches and things like 4 medkits or 4 toolboxes is not a fair match. Just my personal thoughts.

Nothing wrong with Franklin's. The issue is the killer seeing survivors in lobby and being able to switch their perks. Survivors cant tell what killer they are going against let alone their perks or add ons. For every item there is a killer perk to counter so franklins is really needed. I see it more a troll as such.

I don't really agree with this
If a killer knocks out your sabo/flashlight they probably helped your team more as both those items can often lead to misplays. And even if they don't the only difference between dropping it yourself and making franklins drop it is wether you lose charges so it's still more benificial
Key is fair but then again who brings key with aura reading? That item is not the reason killers bring Franklins
Map same thing, you even say it yourself that nobody uses them
Toolboxes people often just use it instantly and if they don't just put it in a strong area of the map. Don't stealth to it, run to it. Either you get it no problem or you can run the killer in the best place on the map.
Same for medkits. If you put it in a strong spot the killer will either have to chase where he doesn't want to chase or let you heal
For medkits and toolboxes, the most important items it's just better to drop it yourself.
If you put them in places where you have to be carefull it's not really a case of the counter not working but of you not doing it right

Surprised nobody has mentioned that if you are in solo queue or you have a cheeky friend, your item may get stolen if the killer forces a drop or you yourself drop the item

Good post, i don't understand why everyone here is so salty, that's dbd community for you i guess.

I mean it is probably the most obnoxious killer perk besides maybe Eruption.

I think it's a fair perk against med kits and commodious toolboxes. Against other items not so much

... Franklin's and Lightborn would be absolutely worthless if the Killer couldn't see, because the benefit they provide is so specific and perks are that starved. It's like if Distortion tokens didn't recharge. <_>

I'm not saying it's unfair. Just really annoying.
