Rating All Enhancements From Best To Worst

These are my opinions only. Feel free to comment on how you would rate them.

  1. Hardware Expansion - This is an easy first place for me. Phoenix pods = extra lives. More phoenix pods means more extra lives. Could anything possibly be more powerful than extra lives?
  2. Cluster Shot - This is an extremely powerful mod. You can equip Falconic Plasmabow and with this enhancement it basically turns your plasmabow into a Volt Lancer with AOE damage and a huge inventory of bolts which can be amplified with Max Ammo Increase enhancement. It is absolutely bananas.
  3. Max Ammo Increase - More ammo = good. Pro tip for players: if you are only using volt lance and demolition cannon then the rare (blue) version is identical to the epic (purple) version. Both will increase your ammo capacity of both weapons by one. The epic version really only makes a difference with the plasmabow.
  4. Swiftness - It feels so good to run fast in this game. This obviously goes best if you are speed running or at least actively moving around in combat. The only problem with this enhancement is that you get too used to it and when you run out or take if off then you feel so slow.
  5. Pick Up Magnet - Being able to pick up ammo from a few blocks away feels so good. This one is like swiftness in that it is painful to take off when you get used to it. Huge quality of life increase on this one.
  6. Defense Up - This is an extremely powerful enhancement. Shields are very strong so longer lasting shields are obviously better. The most powerful aspect of this enhancement is that it makes mistiming your shield much more forgiving.
  7. Grapple Master - It's no secret that the grappler is one of the raiders strongest tools. This game would probably suck without it. Being able to extend the range can often be the secret tool to shortcutting an outpost. For example, the second wave Corrosive Cube (CC) hallways designed to force you out a different way than you went in. Being able to get that extra range can often mean zipping right out past the CC hallway.
  8. Grapple Speed - Pretty much same as above. I just rate range as more important than speed.
  9. Speed Landing - This is probably one of the more controversial takes. I have had a couple outposts where this was exactly the tool I needed to make a clean run. I really, really wish that this enhancement removed the stagger from large falls. This one is still better than I'm sure most people would give it credit for.
  10. Extra Jump - We're starting to get into the more situational enhancements. Extra jumps aren't going to help a lot in corridor outposts. But there are times when this is really handy. I really like this enhancement on arena style maps for instance.
  11. Jump Surge - Same as above. I just rate the extra jumps as more handy. I don't think the sump surge helps with additional jumps btw. It only seems to help with your first jump. I was really hoping to be able to combine the two and jump to crazy heights but it doesn't work that way.
  12. Extended Lunge - Melee builds are mostly for fun. But having more range is more important than lunge speed imho.
  13. Lunge Speed - For melee fun builds only.
  14. Hardware Refill - This is probably a hot take. I just don't like random effects. I don't think this works with phoenix pods either. At least I've never noticed it working with phoenix pods. I would just prefer the guarantee of hardware expansion over this. Sure you could use both together I suppose.
  15. Ammo Restore - Again, I don't like random effects. This one is even worse in that the probability of it going off is lower plus the conditions to proc it are harder. I think we've all learned from the daily challenges how often snipe is used. Headshots are easier but if you are under pressure it is harder to do and when you are under pressure is when you would want the extra ammo the most.
  16. Shockwave - This is an easy last place for me. It's one of those enhancements you want to love but in practice it is horrible. You have to fall FOUR blocks for the effect to go off. The opportunities to pull this off are so limited. Even on those very, very rare chances you get this to work, it is always easier to just deal with the threats in a more direct way. I think the required fall distance should be reduced by half.

I only ever use 2 of these. Grapple Master and Cluster Shot and even then i dont use them that often. Kind of a waste really. Its like an Elixer from a final fantasy game. To good to use but to good to waste.

It is human nature to want to stockpile resources. I strongly recommend using them when you come across a tough outpost though. The right enhancement(s) can turn a frustrating experience into a fun one. Also, make sure you use enhancements on social raids. Social raids don't consume enhancements so you can freely experiment with them there. Just make sure to remember to take them off once you leave the raid.
