Feedback on Dream Snares and Dream Pallets
I've played as and against the new Freddy changes and so far I believe:
- The visual feedback on sending out Snares is minimal
- Seeing what Pallets are Dream Pallets isn't a great change
- You lose collision while holding the charge for creating Dream Pallets (I'm not sure if this is a bug or not)
Snare Firing
When playing against Freddy I found it very hard to react to the Snares being sent out - not to the snares themselves, I thought the speed was fine. It's specifically the gesture Freddy does to indicate he's holding onto a Snare before sending it out. Being able to fire off the Snare so quickly makes it so the raised hand being your key indicator to him sending it out is too brief to react to. It's made worse when using the add-on to increase the Snare's travel speed.
This might be more like a nit-pick but I feel as if holding onto the snare before firing was a touch longer the ability to react to it would feel a lot better, even if the snare was made faster.
Dream Pallet Visibility and Practical Use
Survivors being able to see the Dream Pallets already felt like a red flag at first, and I've seen a lot of people share the same sentiment but what I believe makes it worse is that it doesn't matter which state the survivor is in. Whether you're in or out of the dream world, if you are close to the pallet, it glows red and drips blood.
With current Freddy, if someone sees Pallets that they don't remember being there or there is more than one in close proximity, they have to take the chance to get rid of it or wake up and remember that what they saw was fake and act accordingly. But with PTB Freddy it goes as follows:
- You see a red glowing pallet and you drop it without penalty.
- You see a red glowing pallet during chase and you simply run through and Freddy either also runs through or you drop it and get hit - you'll be hit eventually regardless.
- You drop the red glowing pallet to deny Freddy using Rupture, but you'll just be hit anyway.
I think the problem is even if you're not getting use out of Rupture to injure or progress their timers, you're still more than likely guaranteed a hit with these pallets, and it's not satisfying or rewarding. The fun of using Dream Pallets with current Freddy (even if they are weak in comparison to Snares or other killer powers) was that you could set up convincing pallets, or replace used pallets that the rest of the survivors don't know about and the joy came from it all working out or someone feeling confident at a pallet only to end up being wrong.
My only real suggestion is that only Awake Survivors can see what Pallets are Dream Pallets at close range - incentivising you to clear them out for both you and your other Dream World Roaming Survivors. And in turn while in the Dream World, the ability to see Dream Pallets is gone and they just look normal. Since the back and forth between being awake and asleep is much stronger with this iteration I think it would be a lot more interesting and engaging.
No Collision while charging Dream Pallets
This is a lot minor in comparison to the other 2 topics but while you charge Dream Pallets, you can go through Survivors. Not sure if the same goes for charging Dream Snares, but because you still outpace Survivors while charging Dream Pallets you can deny any and all body blocking and hit survivors who should be protected. Again - not sure if this a bug, but it felt worth mentioning for feedback.
Past these issues, I think Freddy can be a lot of fun. His add-on pass for his snares/pallets are great, new visuals of the embers burning in the dream world (even if Survivors are the only ones who can see it right now), and ways of keeping on top Survivors with the new teleporting - all really cool and fun.
