The Nightmare Rework’s Biggest flaw from a Nightmare Main
Hello, Nightmare main here from back when I first started in late 2017 (Still main him and Nemesis). Freddy has had his fair share of being the WEAKEST killer to Strongest to Meh to the absolute bottom tier, and I was with him from the beginning to end. With this newest rework, I will say that I like it a lot, minus one thing: The Dream Pallets. The Dream Pallets was my favorite way to play Freddy, as I am a controller gamer and found the Paint Thinner add-on great to help me with chases and for knowing where people are who drop all the pallets around the map as a defense measure against Freddy. However, the new dream pallets, have a BIG flaw: The Mindgame Reward is gone and the Stunning Freddy.
When I heard the change to Freddy is here, I immediately picked on the fact you can STUN Freddy with a dream pallets and was like “Oh! Like the anniversary pallet stun, sure is inconvenient but hey, it’s the cost for the mindgame.” Then saw that you get FULL stunned and I nearly lost it. To this day, only Trapper can be hurt by his power and cause his lengthy stun (I don’t include missed power attacks as that is user caused (Oni, Hillbilly, and Cannibal for example). Freddy being stunned by a dream pallet makes no sense as well for lore sense. Freddy’s Hallucinations act to his will, not against him. Dream Pallets should not have a full length stun if you want to do that. Yes, the payoff to getting a Rupture is great: Injury and more dream pull, but the cost is worse off. Plus the counter to dropping a rupturing pallet immediately stops the rupture and the pallet goes to waste. Here is my take: Dream Pallets can still stun, but make it half-length like the anniversary pallets. Dropping a dream pallet that’s being ruptured or in a chase, should cause it to automatically rupture, meaning you being fooled actually does cost you more than dropping a dream pallet not in a chase, and/or to cost Freddy for setting up a fake pallet, like disarming Trapper’s Bear Traps. In an active chase however, dropping a fake pallet should have more cost than just a splash of blood.
It may be my bias for wanting Freddy to be the Nightmare he is meant to be (hehe), but I do believe that he should be stronger than what is here. I like every other change, just maybe change the pallet to the stun duration of the anniversary if you have to keep the stun in for fake pallets and make dropping the rupturing dream pallets/dropping dream pallets in a chase, I say that would be a perfect rework. Genuinely, then again, I am bias, so I could be coming from a place wanting Freddy to be strong again.

They should just completely remove the stun

I think the way you compare trappers traps to freddies dream pallets is completely dumb. Respectfully. If you want a useful take on freddy, then do not compare trapper (full trap killer without any other stuff) to freddy. Trapper's traps are always gonna be better just from the share versitility they posess. He is not limited to placing them on any loop or area of a map as long as there is space. Dream pallets have set spawn locations. Also the fact that THEY KNOW what is fake now means that they already know the correct play long before they have to decide.
What would be the difference of having a fake pallet in an area that is already deadzoned or not having a fake pallet there. Nothing, you still get the hit regardless, and as you said the fake pallet rupture is easy to avoid. Also the radius of the blast is too short.
The issue with this rework on the pallets is the fact that pallets core identity is to fake the survivors out. They are supposed to act as a way for the killer to fool the survivor to thinking that this area is a safe area to loop in. But the current pallets do not have that effect because they are visible asf.
Solution: Remove ability to stun freddy with pallets, remove drop-pallet counterplay to rupture and lessen the range at which the survivor is able to detect the pallet is fake as well as make them invisible survivors.
This way you can punish survivors for choosing wrong pathing and it still gives survivors a chance to memorize where all the pallets are and counter them that way. Exactly as it is with live version. Live version pallets are weak asf but somehow they are stronger than these pallets…
I just dont see why you're okay with pallets being able to stun freddy tho, thats just weird.
