The key reworks don't make sense to me tbh
Why would I take a key to unlock a chest to get a random item instead of just bringing the item with me to the trial?
Also a question: does the key work with perks? Meaning if I have a perk that requires me to open or rummage through a chest does it a count or do I have to manually open the chest?
(Also the blood amber addon is terrible. Why would I want object of obsession on my key?!)

The key rework is a let down imo. i could have sworn on the anniversary livestream at PAX East when they were mentioning the map and key reworks they said that keys were gonna focus on revealing the killers aura, not survivor(s). if i want to know where my teammates are i’ll just run bond or empathy or use the hud to see what actions they’re currently doing. the double nerf to blood amber also doesn’t sit well since that addon was unique and nobody really ran it.

I think it will work with perks.
And also, I too despise the Blood Amber nerf.

I suppose it's not the worst thing to have Bond on an item. However seeing as you could already do this with addons it's really not gained anything. I guess you could bring the common or uncommon key, use it until there's one charge left, then upgrade to a rare item from a chest? Doesn't seem particularly worth it though. The Blood Amber nerf is atrocious and the leaving worthless addons in our inventories is just insulting.

I agree. Now my inventory is filled with useless addons. Why not just retire them and give me bloodponts based on home many I have?

Good to know because of it doesn't them that's trash.
Just scrap the blood amber because what were they thinking?!

Fr it's honestly just insulting.

Blood Amber change is the worst thing in this PTB by far

Fr.
They removed basically every add-on Keys and Maps had.

Neither the key nor the map changes are very good. In a lot of ways, both of them feel worse than before.

Yeah the Blood Amber and charge changes killed the item. None of the new additions are even close to make up for what they did to the addon. Keys are going to be the worst they have ever been, thanks Behaviour…

It's pretty clear BHVR is trying to buff chest builds with the key changes and changes to streetwise and appraisal as chests might as well not exist rn.
I don't really think this does it as the thing that killed chest builds was the hatch changes. Before that the strength of chest builds was you could bring a medkit or toolbox to start with then fairly reliably get a pink or purple key if things went south and get the rest of your team out through the hatch if somebody died early.
With how accessible items are in the bloodweb these days getting a better than average item from a chest is always going to be a bit bleh. Like why would I devote an entire build to looting chests for good items when I can bring whatever I want and just devote a single perk slot to Built to Last if it runs out?

Can the broken key open chests? If it can, it would make it less useless.

Checked and just does Bond for a few secs.
Broken Keys went from being useless to still useless but now you don't need to add the aura reading addon to it

Faster looting for event items?

They are so so hard trying to make chests worth it, but they never will since you can just take in what you are going to need instead of getting something potentially usable randomly. Chests themselves need a major rework in how they function before they start tweaking more survivor items.

As others have mentioned, they really seem to want to make chests a thing.
Run to chest, open it, if its a medkit or toolbox, use it up, take back key, repeat at next chest.
Except doing the action you were going to do anyway (heal or gen) without the detour is still more time efficient and you're not at the mercy of a RNG.
I also think there's the possibility that BHVR is trying to create a playstyle/build like 'item giver' who runs around unlocking and rummaging chests and then leaving those items for the other survivors to use. Except that again seems extremely inefficient instead of just doing gens.
Its a very strange direction given how they talked about what they wanted to have happen.

Honestly, they should just remove the keys already. They already made them useless when they made the Hatch only spawn when it's down to the last Survivor, meaning the only reason you'd bring in the key is if you're confident you'd be the last person standing and that the Killer will find the Hatch first (which happens almost all the time because the Hatch just loves spawning near where the Killer is).
Maybe if they had the Hatch spawn when it's only two Survivors, but not be open, then maybe the Keys could be useful. But as is, it's a pointless item that they should just get rid.
