The reason cheaters aren't being dealt with
Is probably because they're not being reported. There should be an option in-game to report players that you witness cheating, like a chucky spawning in, immediately finding you and sliding around the loop twice as fast as normal when you barely drag him over to a pallet to test and make sure he's actually cheating and not lagging, as SOON as you see them.
Unfortunately my instincts kicked in and I quit the match to requeue before I realized I should report him at the score screen. If the feature were there, hopefully it'd become second nature for everybody else too.

The reasons because they can’t deal with cheaters at all.
Code is open and vulnerableble, so now it's easy to DDoS whole server not even being in match yourself

I had a pretty hilarious cheating Michael Myers in my last game. He just teleport behind you and pull you right off the gen. He didn't kill anybody in the game. He was just popping around jump scaring people. I'm one of the truly most epic moments was when we were opening the gate and my friend was running right as the gate was opening and Myers was already on the other side waiting for us. I asked him why he's cheating in the post game chat and he said he was just doing it to scare people and hope he had fun. I said well I guess. Thanks for not being a jerk but I'll get a report to you anyway

IMO one of the main reasons why Cheaters are not getting reported is because you need to do so much to actually report them. You need to have a way to record your game, you have to grab all information you can, you have to open a Support Ticket, you have to upload the recording on Youtube and then link to it in the Support Ticket. And on top of all of that you have to make sure that you report them ingame.
So lots of work and I can understand that people dont really bother with that. I am not bothering with it anymore after I reported a clear cheater. They had Wallhacks (perfectly mirroring the Killer despite not seeing any red stain), Speedhacks (while the Killer was a Deathslinger and therefore only 110% Speed, he should have still catched up after a while in chase) and then ran straight to the Hatch when it opened. The person I reported did not get banned for months, so since then, I dont bother. If they make it as inconvenient as possible to report Cheaters, I will not go out of my way of doing that. I report them ingame, this takes me a few seconds and thats it.
IMO they need to have a replay-system. It might even be enough to only save the last 5 replays or even the last game played so that people then can upload parts of it to Youtube and dont have to deal with their own software to record. Or simply upload the whole replay-file (which might only be a few KB big) to the Support Ticket.

They don't even need a replay system.
The fact that their game can't look at a player and say "oh look, this person crossed the entire map instantly, or finished a gen instantly, or the killer killed people before they even loaded in, and realize thats a problem, is a problem. They should detect those type of things, immediately end the game, and then file a report on their end.
Yes, bugs can happen, but if someone is doing this type of thing every game, seems like a prime candidate for a ban, either they are cheating, or they are exploiting some massive bug, and are cheating. If it happens once or twice, sure whatever, could just be a bug, but if they do it game after game, its a problem.
And that's just the obvious ones. How hard is it to do some simple math?
- "Oh look, this survivor is running at 105% movement speed, and there are no perks in play that could affect movement speed" and it happens every game
- "Oh look, this killer somehow has 20 perks equipped"
- "Oh look, this generator was completed in 80 seconds by one survivor and there were no perks, or toolboxes in play"
Like, fine, don't use this as a ban detector directly, but use it as a "maybe cheating occured, lets end the match now and flag it for BHVR to investigate later"

100% agree. I don’t know of any other game that puts such a significant burden on the players for reporting cheaters. A vast majority of players are not recording their games, so that eliminates most opportunities to report cheaters. And then even if you happen to be recording, you have to spend a bunch of time afterwards getting the video onto YouTube, going through the reporting process, etc. It’s completely ridiculous. I don’t understand why it’s so technically impossible for BHVR to auto-detect things that players should not be able to physically do in matches like teleporting, moving way too fast, unlimited DS (a cheat I’ve encountered personally before), etc.

Exactly. And this is why I hope for a Replay-System one day. Aside from it being super-interesting to see your games again, it could also help to report Cheaters (or debunk Cheats). I played World of Tanks for quite a long time and they had a Replay-System where you could either save all your Replays or only the last game you played. Helped to identify why some players were losing games or simply if there were Cheats involved (e.g. one time a player complained that he was shot despite being behind a big rock, funnily the player who was shooting them actually had replays enabled and showed that almost half of the tank was not hidden behind a rock…).
And well, even if you have a recording software, does not mean that you will have it opened fast enough to actually show something. If I played against that Nurse-Bot who just teleported to everyone and hooks them in the basement, I would only be able to record the last part of it (unless I am recording all of my games), and then nobody could tell if it was an actual cheater or just a very bad game for the Survivors.
Regarding auto-detection - in theory, yes, this should also be in the game. Like having a check if a player is too fast for too long or something like that. But I dont trust BHVR with Auto-Detection and even less after they implemented the Go Next-Prevention where people got warned despite not going next. Call me a pessimist, but I would totally expect people getting banned or kicked from games because the system detected they were cheating while they were not.

One of the reasons is because EAC is notoriously easy to bypass.

To be fair, they can't even keep track of what you have in your inventory and what you purchased from the in-game store. Or at least I've never seen any evidence of it. Anti-go next and the crow rework also exposed how little they can even track what happens during the trial itself.
At this point, for BHVR to track anything beyond what's shown on the results screen, they'd likely have to recode the entire game from the ground up. Which won't happen, but I'm in favor of it all the same.

the game autobans if it notices a teleporter or self unhookers, I read about it somewhere, but then cheat devs spend a long time looking for a way around it and reselling it. So I think it won't take long when the anti-cheat (server anti-cheat is also there) starts banning, the anti-cheat always collects information about all running processes, drivers and analyzes them, bans are inevitable when there is a new banwave, so there is nothing to worry about here, I believe in the devs and the anti-cheat😘

im sorry i do my job and report them in game
i don't mind helping the devs ban cheaters, but imma be honest it feels like im doing their job and sitting for 3 hours uploading a vid because my internet is slow and sending it just for a chance of that cheater getting banned a month later is not fun
this should be something being controlled by EAC or something, if EAC doesn't work change it to something stronger that doesn't effect players or preformance or connection
even now im literally sitting on like 8 videos of a jill cheating "as more proof" but im just too tired to create a ticket just to MAYBE get one person banned on epic games like it matters

Not only is it time consuming to report, but most of the time its also pointless since there's SO many spare accounts. You can see people stream their hacks get banned, then just hop on a new account.

Tbh in game report worked for me like half year ago, but now its not working well I reported guy like two months ago where he just went inside of gen and repair it mid chase infront of me multiple times and no notification for ban but this was clear cheting, or guy who was just teleporting throught floors on midwitch and bodyblocking me while being invisiable sabboing hooks when I picked him only reason I was able to kill him was because he was very bad like most of cheaters and I played as pyramidhead so I could cage him. He even was healing downed players while being somewhere else so I couldnt pick anybody up because they were healed on the ground and no ban. Reporting here on dbd site is time consuming as hell and for what he had bought more acounts or he will for less than one usd so this system is bad and dont tell me all of it was bugs too many bugs in one play isnt possible.

Didn't behaviour accidentally release a Dev build of dbd one time? Once something like that is out there, I don't think there's any going back.. Unless of course you rebuild the system from the ground up and I can't really see that happening. I think they know they're fighting a losing battle and so they just leave them to it.

Cheaters are dealt with. They simply are like bacterias, always endlessly coming back no matter what.

The Ghostface release, yeah. I imagine it being built in such an accessible engine doesn't help either.

The devs could do a lot more to catch cheaters without always requiring video evidence.
Core gameplay values like movement speed, health state, hook state, healing time, cooldowns, and player position should be server authoritative. That means the server validates all changes instead of trusting the client. If the client reports values outside the allowed range, such as speed hacks, teleporting, skipping cooldowns, or invalid state transitions, the server flags it immediately.
When a violation is detected, the system can auto-flag the account or remove the player if it is a clear exploit. Player reports could automatically attach the last few minutes of telemetry so support can review and confirm.
Bans should be tied to hardware IDs verified by anti-cheat. Epic’s Easy Anti-Cheat can collect multiple hardware identifiers (CPU, GPU, motherboard, etc.) to create a unique fingerprint. This makes it much harder for cheaters to bypass compared to IP bans, even if they change their MAC address or use a VPN.
The tools to do this already exist, they just need to be applied. Video evidence would then only be needed in unique scenarios, or if they aren't seeing anything in the data telemetry refine their overall security.

I agree EAC can be bypassed if it is not implemented well, but when used correctly it is a solid anti-cheat. If it is set up to collect multiple hardware identifiers and create a digital fingerprint, it becomes much harder for cheaters to get back in after a ban. Some games skip this or only track IP and MAC addresses, which are easy to spoof. Collecting hardware serial numbers is more reliable, and combining them into a fingerprint makes it harder for cheaters to reuse the same hardware.
The reason some games avoid this due to privacy laws, but there are legal ways to implement it in regions like the US, UK, and Canada by disclosing it in the privacy policy and hashing the identifiers. Pair this with server-side telemetry that flags impossible actions, like moving faster than the game allows, skipping cooldowns, or changing states instantly, and you can catch most blatant cheats automatically. The key is making the server authoritative for those checks instead of trusting the client, since that is where most exploits happen.
If cheaters are getting through in DBD, it is more likely because the implementation is weak, not because EAC itself is useless.

The steps involved in submitting a report that actually does any good is just too much of a pain. I don't record my matches so I need to observe something sus enough to make me think the other player is cheating first, then start recording and hope I catch it again. Then I need to submit a report at the end game screen, zip my footage up to YouTube, and create a support ticket on their support website with my steam id and the id of whoever I'm reporting.
Alternatively I can just ignore it, move on, and let this player be someone else's problem.
Unless someone really aggravates me, I'm just not going to that much trouble.

The issue with reporting real cheaters is just how awful the average player is. Thousands of reports were made daily because someone camped, tunneled, genrushed, or unhooked unsafely. I promise you people still rage report to this day. Bhvr simply has no choice but to ignore these reports unless followed up on with their ticket system. It ensures the odds of false bans is absolutely minimal and therefore a necessary evil.
The reading comprehension of the average player is so terrible I have personally witnessed streamers reporting a "hacking killer" and the "hacks" in question were merely perks like BBQ and Chili, Mad Grit, and Coup De Grace. Players simply cannot be trusted to make reports, but flagging the account in game is still crucial in order to recover the match/player data in case a real ticket with evidence is made.
Most platforms have minimal effort means of acquiring clips so I encourage you all to do whatever you can on whatever platform you play and one by one these cheaters will be banned. Unfortunately whenever the exploit is patched the cheaters will try to find a new one. As with any multi-player game it is an endless tug-of-war between cheaters and anti-cheat.

I agree. The ingame report system needs an overhaul. It needs to be way cleaner, and more efficient. The reporting system we have now is asking WAY too much of its playerbase.

The developers are incompetent , that's why nothing is being done. Cheating happens in every online game, but usually some system is put in place, whether reports are happening or not. Any competent team looks at their forums, looks at social media, keeps an eye on content creators, etc. to know when problems occur, like cheaters or bugs, even without them being reported. Can't catch everyone, obviously, but cheating is an issue most teams can handle just fine, even if you can't fully eradicate it.
BHVR though? They haven't even tried - heck, they even allow mods to be use, it's why you saw some Killer complaining about "visibility issues" with the item that was meant to make it hard to see, it's because the Fog Vials clashed with their mods. Instead of punishing those players, they nerfed the Fog Vials into uselessness.
It's time the player base accepted that BHVR has a horrible development team.
-2 -
Id be careful about insulting them the way you are. That's a great way to get banned. There are defintely measures that can be taken to improve what we have in terms of detection and anti cheats, which they have vocalized about already. All we can do is wait and see.

Absolute facts being spoken. It's depressing because DBD by nature is the kind of game where even if a player in the lobby were to be cheating to a degree which could be expected from an online game like this, like, auto dead hard, map hacks, can see everyones perks, etc. Even with someone cheating like that it would still be a pretty playable experience because so much of your strength in DBD is based on knowledge, macro, 50/50 mindgames of whether the killer commits to the swing or not, understanding the game. It doesn't matter if you have wallhack if the killer catches you in a bad position with no pallets, you'll get hit anyway. You can't cheat a 50/50 mindgame on an open tile if the tile isn't safe. But you can absolutely subtle speedhack to so the killer never catches up, no matter how much worse you are at the game.
If the game was programmed properly with cheating in mind from the beginning, the server would outright reject a client that starts sending info like "Oh, this survivor is moving at twice the speed right now without any perks or anything in play by the way" and the game would go on like normal and just ignore this attempted cheating without letting it work. It simply wouldn't be possible to cheat such fundamental things. Wallhacks, sure, that's harder to prevent.
But like you say there's just zero server side validation on anything which makes the most insane cheats possible. Just sad. And if they did have a replay system, then that would immediately and instantly reveal cheaters in the replay and make reporting them so, so much easier because of all the literally impossible things they are able to do. And wouldn't require anyone to manually record game footage and upload it which is just ridiculous, most games have a match ID system with a replay attached and a "recent matches" history you can look through if you want to manually report cheating which would be ten times easier than expecting players to have a recording ready.
