What do you do when you think you're up against a new player?

I've been facing a lot of new players, some play well some play...well as if they're still learning the ropes.

I'm curious as to how everyone treats new players that you are dominating really easily.

Myself, I make sure I have control of the match but I wouldn't ever chase a player who I thought was new for too long. I'll hit and leave them.

I think first impressions can give you a sour impression on the game so I think that helps the game retain new players.

When as survivor (because matchmaking broke/playing with high rank friends) i'll try to give them tips at the end of the match.

As a killer well... im gonna be slihgtly less agressive?

I mean i play normally the thing about dead by daylight is its a mindgame through and through what some people call bullying is actually just playing the game if i end up outplaying the killer or survivor so be it they have to learn somehow.

    I play normally.

As killer you normally cant affort to take it easy on a noob because there are 3 other survivors of variable skill.

And sugarcoating the reality of our game for noobs might backfire and create entitlement.

Normally as killer I hit and back of and if they survive I give them hatch. That why they have a positive experience and they keep playing. As a survivor I usually farm points and let them hit me once or twice.

Walk slowly to the exit to give a new Billy a hit and fall short by a few inches and get one hooked.

when as surv im playing vs new killer, if he isnt tunneling or i didnt looted purple stuff im giving him kill after gates are powered (if he didnt already killed me)

as killer most likely let them leave or at least give last one hatch, last time when i gave new surv hatch she asked me in post game chat if she died in that tunnel xD she had like 10h and was playing with purple rank friends

If I see one survivor or more are struggling I'll go easy on them and more often then not let them all go. As I know the pain of trying your best and just failing

That is as long as they don't try and taunt me. I'm generous and I want everyone to have fun but I will not tolerate BMing or hook farming. So they will die and learn from their mistake as they see the others get let go. Same with people that don't participate in the farming and just keep running away

If I can tell the survivor is new I'll try to go easy on them and after the match I'll give them some tips

If not...I feel sorry for them

I play the way I ordinarily would. It sucks for them but ideally they learn from it. If it's clear they're new I'll message then postgame and apologize/compliment them on something they did well

Depends...if the match is going too quickly then I’ll take out the weakest link. I try not to go after them but if I can get somebody out as quickly as possible then it becomes less stressful on me. Especially if I get a garbage map like Haddonfield or Yamaoka

Last few games I feel like all Im playing against is newbies...Purple ranked newbies... If the stomping is TOO severe, I might let one or 2 leave. Had a game last night where i had 2 kills before the first gen popped, with the other 2 being hooked at least once each already. I was playing Piggy, so no OP stuff on my end... I let em finish the gens and walk out with some loot from the chests. The next game, same deal... Figured out one of em wasnt trying to be toxic with OoO, but rather was just trying desperately to not die while getting Laurie's adapt... That guy and one of his teammates both got out after the first 2 died b4 1 gen popped...

Killer: I try to pick off all their friends first and do what I can not to let them leave the game feeling defeated (If I'm killing too fast, I suddenly can't seem to find anyone. Yes Meg, you're totally hidden behind that tree) My goal is for the newbie to survive, but just barely. That way they feel they need to learn but don't feel the killer is OP

Note: I have recently stopped giving them hatch. If things get out of hand and they're the last one left and no gens are done, I've learned new players take that as a defeat more so than actually dying half the time. I'll reserve that for players that constantly outdo me but didn't have teammates on their level

Survivor: It's a bit harder to tell with how matchmaking is, but if they're clearly struggling I'll take hits and then try to vanish rather than loop them. Before you learn to handle loops you have to learn how to track in my opinion.

I just played Pig for a couple matches because I have been watching scorpionz and I felt really bad. The first time I thought it was just a bunch of hooligans trying to derank below my 16 - they were brand new 1 perk level 20s. The second time I caught on they MIGHT be new except for this one toxic Jake, so I played normally but if I caught them fresh off the hook I left them to be healed - but I think they got too scared to rescue. I still killed them all in an act of mercy because I didn’t want them to stay slugged.

If it's obvious that a survivor is new, I'll play with my food a bit. It's funny watching them loop improperly, they get jump-scared easily, and it's just generally fun to meme around when they don't know what they're doing. And I always try to give them hatch if possible.

If you're a "friendly" killer, it's always more fun playing with the new guys.

I help them, teach them how to play, I only notice when they happen to fail gens commonly, quick vault without q&q not in the chase, and run away when failing gens that they are new, I teach them how to hit checks through coms after the match in kyf, teach them when to fast vault or slow vault, etc

When I am killer I teach them still, but how to avoid the killer

  • Mister_xD
    Mister_xD Member Posts: 7,669

i usually go easy on them and let them escape in the end.

and then the end chart reveals he was the only red rank survivor they had.

idk why, but that happened more than once to me by now xD

When I see a survivor trying but just falling short I like to down them normally then act like I cannot find it in myself to hook them yet so I shake my head and drop them down and run away with my head down.

  • Ark_the_Bonsai
    Ark_the_Bonsai Member Posts: 867

I mean it makes sense. If a bunch of players go "wow, he must be new, I'll give him hatch" He's gonna eventually hit red ranks on the kindness of killers

If i see a new player i usually tunnel them to get them out of the game fast so they can spectate the more seasoned survivor players play and maybe learn something.

  • LordGlint
    LordGlint Member Posts: 8,685

Thats assuming they stay to spectate instead of hopping on forums to complain about tunneling killers.

I play by the same rules when I get that one survivor that I SWEAR I'm not tunneling but somehow always finds their way in front of me. Let them go once, maybe twice, and then after that any additional time is an introduction to the ground.

I play normally, but then again my regular playstyle would be considered pretty "nice" and "casual" by many players anyway.

I make sure to give simple specific tips if there's obvious things that could easily be improved though. Like if they fast vault all the time or use lockers at bad times, or if they fear pallets to the point where even a single unsafe pallet is basically all you need to run them for several generators. More often than not people seem to appreciate simple tips like that, I know I would LOVE getting more of that when I was starting out.

  • Crazewtboy
    Crazewtboy Member Posts: 1,259

When I play killer, they might (on VERY rare occasion) get mercy from me when I decide to stop chasing to do something else such as break a pallet which I know won't affect me or check on a totem that I know nobody will find. For the most part though, I treat them like any other survivor in my game. As a survivor I do the same thing. I fix gens and if they chase me I loop them (but I attempt to be a bit more lenient. I'll go for unsafe loops instead of a loop like shack) and even juke them. While I believe your first few matches can have a big effect on how you view the game, they have to learn somehow and sugarcoating the experience for them will only hurt them in the long run.

I play the same. I've personally put the game down before and come back to rank reset where the killer exclusively face camps and smacks me on the hook. Because of that, I know that there are survivors who don't know how to deal with camping or geting chased. I'm not saying I play the same to be toxic, but playing nice isn't going to teach them much about dealing with harsh scenarios. I'll leave the hook and give them a chance to heal up. Then, they can try again until they eventually get the hang of things. Playing nice is only going to give them false expectations of the game and overall hurt their growth.

That being said, I do recognize that my method of dealing with newcomers does spawn Blendettes. Typically newcomers think chasing is too hard and resort to stealth. No teaching method is perfect though. Now if only we had a functioning tutorial...

play the same as I always do, they live or die by their own skill. Sugarcoating the game and giving free escapes to brand new players can easily lead to entitlement and similar foolish mentality. I WILL give them tips to improve or perk builds to try afterward match though

I try to keep newbies in the game as long as possible, as they actually slow down the game self-caring in the corner/taking their sweet time rescuing their teammates. I'm quite friendly if they're the only one left, but since EGC I've only let one /really obvious/ noob escape after I've closed the hatch. I think I used to be a lot friendlier before EGC and before my hiatus, but idk.

As for being a survivor? I don't play survivor much (highest gotten is purple ranks in 2 years, F) but if our team is for some reason absolutely curbstomping a killer, I'll usually take the win and play normally, but drop some tips in the post game chat if they don't instaleave.

Generally, I am in the higher ranks so it is odd for me to see a 'new' player. However, If I happen to notice this 'New Player' is in a 4-man swf I normally tunnel one out immediately. They shouldn't be joining three rank 3's and expect mercy. Those R3's are probably trying to bully a lower tier killer anyway.
