trolls on the forum

Is it against the rules of the forum to troll? I ask this because there have been a lot of post trying to stir up conflict between people recently.

Yes, any form of trolling is prohibited on the forums and will get you banned on repeated offenses.

Although the rules don't specifically say:

    • Trolling is prohibited

Trolling does violate other forum rules such as: "Be respectful to other members"

These rules can be found here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/87004/forum-rules#latest

Baiting is a grey area because I baited before, as well as many other forum users.

I think there are different types of baiting, which likely why I didn't get in trouble because I did a good type of baiting? The rules are unclear, which is why I think there should be examples of what's a violation.

Well, there is two sides to this. There are those who troll/bait and those who claim that people are doing it. Sometimes they are right, but maybe someone just has an idea that goes against the status-quo and are immediately hated on for having a differing opinion.

I myself seem to recieve quite a bit of ridicule for my thoughts.

But lately it does feel like certain users can come under trolling or deliberately trying to start arguments. Maybe even spam depending on who you ask.

There is a clear difference between standard baiting, and malicious baiting. If you are harassing users until they say what you want them to say, I could see that as being rule breaking. Such as purposefully misrepresenting what others are saying in efforts to start drama, I think that is a good example of trollish baiting.

The rules do forbid posting "Things that do not contribute to the discussion (e.g. baits, etc.)". But as Nick pointed out, some people have been banned for baiting and others have not.

My guess would be that it comes down to the individual moderator's discretion over whether they think the intent was harmful. If you make a post or comment with the intention of evoking a negative response (anger, heated arguments, etc.) then you will likely get punished for it. If it's clear that a post is sarcastic or joking, or made with good intentions, then you probably won't get punished.

It's not unlikely that other things, like your reputation on the forums, will factor into this as well - if you have previous warnings or a reputation for being disrespectful and stirring up trouble, it's less likely, from an outsider's perspective, that any troll posts you make will be made with positive intentions, and the mods will pick up on that. Also bear in mind that some forms of trolling can be considered harassment, and personal threats are forbidden even when they're meant as jokes.

As an example of "acceptable" trolling, @Elk, one of the Trusted members, frequently makes joke threads with clickbaity titles, and he doesn't get in trouble for it because it's obvious that he's just joking around and being silly. Basically, it comes down to whether or not your post is a negative or positive contribution to the forum. If it's insulting, distressing or inflammatory, that's a bad thing; if it's positive and harmless, then it's fine.

As long as people dont start to insult or go to for offtopic im fine.

I dont struggle with ignoring an obvious troll.

Problem is that some people tend to call you a troll as soon as you dont share their opinion. Its a very small gap and i dont want to be the one that has to decide.

If you're thinking of a certain someone with a hag pfp and a Kate one then yeah they're definitely both baiting. They're both in it together, I swear. It's pretty damn funny at times though ngl, I can respect that quality of bait.

That’s just it. Can you prove it’s trolling or it just your opinion? Trolling is a subjective term.
