So i recently started playing killer and.....
Apparently i was camping while i was just trying to have fun, im a 17 and i faced rank 8s, rank 4, rank 15, and rank 20. And i got 2 kills, 1 i had to secure so i was just walking around cause i had bbq tier 1 as a perk and i didnt see anyone, and i heard that if you dont see anyone in the distance that they are close. So thats why i patroled. But like how is that camping, i was just playing the game. Can anyone help me with an answer? Thanks!

Yea that is camping but what's the problem?

Who cares? Play by your rules. Not the survivor's rules. Camp if you want, and if they tell you you're bad, remind them that they died.

Nothing wrong with camping, especially if the situation like you said calls for it.

The best thing you can do when you play as either a survivor or a killer is to learn to enjoy the salty responses.

BBQ is not that great of a tracking perk really. If you are behind a gen, in a locker, using the perk distortion, or within 40 meters your aura will not be revealed. BBQ is awesome at giving you post trial bloodpoints and that is why most people run it. I can't tell you how many hundreds of hooks I've had where I didn't see a single aura. That doesn't mean that they are all close. There is probably 1 survivor close and 2 in lockers.
I would recommend running bitter murmer or discordance for tracking. Discordance is actually better because you interrupt multiple survivors.

Don't play by anyone elses rules, that is camping but who cares it's not bannable and if the situation calls for it do it.

You get lost in the foggy hay maze and can't see a thing and the survivors call it camping xD

1- Camping is an acceptable strategy, the devs said that and the game is made having this in mind. (also many addons relate to this)
The game would be much better without camping but actually its impossible for some killers to secure kills without camping...
2- What you CANT do is disrespect people, tea bagging, pointing, etc...

Camping is a valid strategy. It's frown upong by survivors, but who cares what they think. Your objective is to kill.
Of course it you play the whole match camping is a little boring, but if the doors are opened, the last hook must be camped to try to secure the kill. What else would you do? go to the corner of the map to smell some flowers?

It wasn't camping, and it's not your fault for them playing bad. Just tell them that their opinion doesn't matter to you, and move on to the next match.

After matches, survivors love to complain about anything the killer did. Stay near the hook too long? Camper! Hook someone twice in a row? Tunneler! Use pretty much any perk? You're bad at the game!
I've had matches where I used weak perks, I didn't camp or tunnel, and I killed all four survivors. After the match I got a nasty message, and because they couldn't complain about my perks, they called me a garbage killer for slugging and tunneling. Even though I didn't tunnel.
So, don't worry about it when survivors complain. They will berate you to try to get you to play by their rules, and then even if you do play by their rules, they will give you crap for some other reason. It's a game, have fun. Feel free to close chat (PC) or turn off messages (console).

Well, nobody stops you from teabagging and pointing, it is not breaking the rules or anything of the sort

Where do I say it’s breaking the rules?
I told is disrespect.
Disrespectful behaviour in games should be punished.

Even if you don't camp/tunnel and you play very generously, there are a lot of people who will still insult you after the match. Therefore, play how you want.

Bring a tent and camp away if you like. You don't owe them anything.

Play how you want to play like everyone else has said some survivors will complain about anything they can, i just had a match like your's i had one in the basement and a couple hanging round the shack trying to save them didn't help them there was a gen right outside the window which they kept trying to finish. why would i leave that area when i know there is a couple survivors hanging around.
The more you play killer the more you will see some stupid stuff some survivors will say just have a laugh at it and move onto your next game but you did nothing wrong in your game just a survivor upset that they didn't escape.

Ignore survivors, play to have fun.
Fun can mean how many you kill, chases, bp points, pips on ranking, meme, cat and mouse, face camping, proxy camping.
Basically survivors have the power to unhook a survivor in the face of a killer and all escape, if they are unable to do that then they will complain to the killer or other survivors but not themselves

Don't listen to survivors, they don't know how the game went from your point of view. If they start whining just drop down a gg and move on.
Not leaving a hook when the entire team is there isn't camping.

You'll get called a tunneler and camper for anything. I remember once someone claimed I tunneled them, even when they were the last survivor alive and I downed them while they were opening an exit gate...

Everything a killer does is frowned upon, nothing is frowned upon on survivors. With that being said, play however you want when you play killer. Survivors will always find something to complain about
