At least BHVR isn't doing a Blizzard
Let's face it. The option was always present and they COULD do that... but they don't.
It's almost as if they care about the players :pensive:

What is doing a Blizzard? Destroying my hopes and dreams by releasing Diablo 3?
3 -
Disabling certain heros in overwatch competitive play starting next season (next month) so ppl don't complain about the "meta" being stale
10 -
The issue with that is, BHVR would be in serious trouble for doing that. We pay for these characters. The legal right to use them in game. We own licenses to these characters. In Overwatch, you don't pay for characters. You pay for cosmetics.
7 -
Oh don't get me wrong I don't like the moves they made to this point
And yea it would be disheartening to say the least If BHVR did something like that... but I do wish BHVR would start addressing the issues with actual fixing

Whats going on at Blizzard? Last time I heard of the was when the lootbox controversy hit hard.

BHVR's new motto - At least we're not Blizzard....
7 -
lol. BHVR can only hope to be on Blizzard's level some day. Bad maps, bad balance, bad matchmaking, bad graphics, full of bugs that don't get addressed, but AT LEAST they aren't disabling heroes for a week to keep the meta from getting stale.

Look up war craft 3 and over watch hero bans.
To sum up:
Wc3: they just lied to everyone about that remake
To full explain:
Ow: the comp scene has been asking for a moba ban system. Which is where before a match each person on a team bans 1 character from the game. To ban certain op characters and meta. Also forcing players to learn multiple characters.
Blizzard decided that they will put in a ban list they choose weekly of rotating heroes.
The reason OW wanted the bans is because certain heroes are just broken on certain maps. Since maps are randomly chosen this doesn't even begin to fix the issue. Say there's a map where bastion is the meta. If he's not banned that week and you get that map you are still going against him
This isn't the first time they ruined it as well. Tired of the competitive scene playing their game wrong they banned free choices and instead limit each team to 2 dps, tanks, and healers because before people were running mostly tanks because dps suck in the game after constant nerfs

Have you read the terms of service? I'm not sure how it is in most country's, but in the USA they can revoke the right. Your basically renting the game if you read the fine print.

It's really a fall from grace... I was always of the opinion of blizzard being was this amazing company that somehow always made amazing games, with great stories and just beautiful cinematics. (You play diablo II or starcraft brood war today and those cinematics still look good). Warcraft never really atracted me, but I watched a let's play, I know how good it looked...I know how the story goes.
Like, the game could appear to be crap from the trailer or something, but seeing the blizzard logo was a seal of "we tried our damn hardest to make this game, and we made sure it became everything we wanted it to be".
Now it really doesn't mean anything...😕

Legally, even in the US, if you buy a digital game, you own the license to play that game. It's not a rental. Besides, they'd never get away with it anyway based on the fact that they chose to release this game in the EU, who would never allow them to get rid of purchased content with no compensation.

Actually I don't think BHVR has done worse. Blizzard completely crapped the bed when it comes to warcraft 3 reforged. They went back on many promises and things they advertised without telling the consumers, and the kicker? They are still promoting some of these features that aren't there. Not to mention the Hong Kong controversy. Oh yeah, lets not forget the infamous "don't you guys have phones?" moment.
BHVR actually invites and listens to feedback from their player base. Do they make changes that people don't like? Absolutely. Does that make them worse than Blizzard's crap storm of douchebaggery? Absolutely not.

" we're a pile of poop, but at least we're not that pile of poop"

Makes me glad I abandoned all games produced by that company. Been about 3 years now and don't regret a thing. No company deserves loyalty when they prioritize money over making a good product.

Well, there is some truth to this. I worked on a farm and let me tell you that goat, sheep and deer poop is less disgusting than human poop. Yes, they are all gross, but there are different levels, and at least you can use the animal poop for fertilizer.

Amazing that Nurse is still a strong killer, yet people just liked being OP because being OP is fun.
Ruin is gutted but it was only gutted in the eyes of people who heavily relied on it in red ranks.
New Ruin still crushes new players and it is a pretty decent carry from gray to purple. It also gives a training wheel to killers that makes more sense and teaches even more. Tbh the same problems people have with New Ruin are just about the same as the old, that it still is a Hex.
That's just a dead horse of a topic though, as long as BHVR doesn't go in the direction Blizzard did with Overwatch, I am slightly satisfied.

I also happen to play Warcraft III on top of dbd, and let me tell you Blizzard is in some hot stuff right now.

Warcraft 3 was one of my goto RTSs with Starcraft too.
It's a shame that Blizzard just doesnt even listen too well to their community. And it is a much larger company than Behavior too

Btw wc3 hasnt anything wrong

You guys should check on another product of bhvr, warhammer 40k eternal crusade.

It's obvious they do care about their players, the problem isn't the dev's themselves. The problem is the statistics they are receiving, and their decisions on how to deal with problems. All the statistics they use to make decisions are greatly skewed, and they dealt with too many problems with band-aid remedies that has made it hard to balance the game now.
Like in my head the balancing team is just walking around a room covered in loose lego's, and being told to remove the single megablock from the room.

What did blizzard do?

Company should always focus on themselves to improve, self reflect on what they are doing right and wrong. "At least they are not XXX" is a very dangerous way to looking at things. It make you feel you are doing fine because there are others that are way worst than you while the reality is not.
It is not a perfect analogy but imagine you get a 35 on math test, will you go "ok, Benjamin is getting a 5 on the same test, I'm doing fine, at least I'm not Benjamin" or "oh god! I fail my math test, I better find out what's wrong and improve my score"?

In one of their most popular franchises, Overwatch, the dev team decided that it was best to disable certain heroes of their choice to solve out the issues revolving around the "meta".
As you may probably guess the playerbase is a concert scale uproar, because what they were requesting was player chosen bans at the beginning of a match in (x) map. Instead they got the latter.

but BHVR did "disable" ruin for the sake of meta. Didn't they Blizzard then?
3 -
No
What Blizzard is doing is completely removing a hero for a whole week.
Ruin just got changed, but beat the dead horse some more
Yea yea rhetorical question smh

They removed the early game impact. The perk's name still exists but the effect is gone. Let's say, they keep Roadhog but make him look like Reinhard with the same power and stats. Would you say Roadhog isn't disabled, he just got changed?
3 -
They tested making Roadhog a DPS... thats like what happened to Ruin

I wish blizzard could break away from activison and keep their ######### like Bungie did with Destiny. Though I'm not sure that would even be possible. I'm not sure how Bungie managed to take destiny with them but the game certainly improved when they were free of their microtransaction overlords. Blizzard has so many IPs if it were legally possible you can bet Activision will fight that tooth and nail. They'll contact a Necromancer to bring back the ghost of Johnnie Cochran to fight that case. They will go that far.
I heard recently Rod from The Coalition(TC) left gears of war 5 to join blizzard. I certainly wouldn't want to join blizzard right now with all the backlash they've been facing the past year.

Gears of war 5? There's a 4th?
0 -
aren't they kind of doing that with the archive challenges and using different character's and perks?
But if they actually disabled a character or perk that I paid for I'd be pretty upset.

It came out like Oct and it was a mess of a launch. Even the campaign didn't work. It's standing on 1 severed foot right now. It was almost as bad as Judgement. Bugs are still plenty and more pop up each update. Game breaking bugs too.
They took out the loot boxes but my god there is so much useless ######### in the shop that can only be acquired through real money. Magically despite all the issues the shop is always working?

I have no idea what they did to roadhog :P
aura just said "ruin was not deactivated it was changed" and I disagreed with this example

I used to play OW but mostly quick play. I stayed out of rank. I want to go back but at the same time I don't. I stopped playing just before they put in the role que. I've played MMOs since I was 18. I could have told them certain roles are going to be sitting in que for a long time. I'm worried if I go back and I que up as a DPS, then people are going to expect me to use the absolute best DPS there is and my k/d ratio has to be very high. I didn't play OW like that. 90% of the time I was healer or tank because nobody on quick play wanted to do that. When I picked DPS I wanted to mess around with sombra or practice my genji/widowmaker. If I'm going to be told who to play as, on quick play, id rather play something else.

Yes because he is still viable in the same way Ruin is today, just people that dont know how to use it.

You over estimate what your consumer rights are mate. This is an online game and you signed a EULA. They can do whatever they want.
0 -
Like I said - they released DBD in the EU. Even their EULA doesn't supersede EU consumer laws.
0 -
You don't get me...
0 -
You iwn the license to play the game. Not prevent the developers from changing what that game is or contains. They can make it a sims clone, and as long as you still own the right to play it, you cant take legal action for them changing the game. You dont own a hand in its creation, just its use.
0 -
That would be true - if you hadn't paid for *the specific things* in question. If it was a matter of "I bought the game and this character was in the game, and they removed it", yeah, it would be shady, but it would be legally fine. However, in the case of DLC characters, where you for their license specifically, it's a bit more of a sticky road for them to go down, and like I said, EU consumer protection laws would hang BHVR for it, if they tried.
0 -
You can still play that character. Even if theyve been changed from dwight to barney the dinosaur. Would people be upset? Of course. But you're paying them to play the game as long as the license is good. Not have control over what's in the game. On top of that, most ToU say in some way, you're renting or leasing the game, with the license, which can be revoked or ended.
1 -
You're still ignoring the fact that EU protection laws protect people against that. In fact, in the EU, digital goods are considered ownership and not licenses, under those very same laws; and as such are subject to everything physically owned things are subject to. Including refunds and reimbursements.
