Opening hatches when downed...

I was just in a game with a key and instead of recovering I went for the hatch. Once I got to the hatch I saw, to my horror, that i couldnt open it!! I swear I always remember being able to open the hatch with a key when downed and I've always kept this in mind when playing killer. Is this a new thing or am I just crazy?

You can't use any items while in the dying state. It was a bug and they fixed it.

Using items in the dying state would be ridiculously over powered

Who knows what the devs decide to keep or nerf.... As of right now the game is broken bottom line.
