Noobies Getting Shafted by Matchmaking
About a week ago, I was playing a normal Killer match as Freddy, and I notice one of the Survivors in my match is just not that good. This Feng Min, she's running into open, empty spots, not even trying to loop. I down her and hook her, and continue the match. I go on, kill 2 more Survivors with 4 gens still up, slug the third, and go find the Feng Min standing again in the middle of a field. She stands still and lets me down her. I go and hook the other Survivor, and pick up Feng to find hatch. I close hatch (Because of that challenge) and let her have the gate, and let her go.
I get a message afterwards from the Feng, thanking me, telling me how she just got the game because a friend told her and she's constantly getting put with high ranks. I tell her no problem, and that I'd love to do anything to keep new players. DbD is very unforgiving to new players.
That was probably one of my favorite moments I've ever had playing this game. Helping a new player survive and letting them know there are good people that play the game, and that there is hope to get better and have fun.
It just sucks so much that these players are having this happen to them. If when I played in 2017 and only got red ranks, I would've quit. How did matchmaking get worse over the span of nearly 2 and a half years?

I was on a break and deranked back to 18. I had plenty of matches where the survivors were complete newbies and were asking me to take it easy on them. Then there were matches where I was being paired against purples and reds at rank 18. If I was a new killer I wouldn't play this game after seeing that. I feel bad for newbie killers getting thrown into the fire like that.

Match making should consider not just rank but minutes playing the game, if in a swf, etc but due to killers leaving the game or going on strike like I am the match making will never be sorted and more and more players will play the power role of survivor because everyone wants fun

I'm much in the same boat, though your break seems like it was longer than mine.. all the way back to rank 18?
But yes, matchmaking is #########. After my break I was out to rank 14 and been slowly trying to get back up, but I'm finding it pointless as at rank 10, the only games I seem to get are red ranks or SWF red ranks with a guest appearance. MMR might as well be implemented at this point. #########, just get rid of ranks period so mixed skills can play together and force everyone to get better

I stopped playing killer when the nurse got reworked. That broke the camels back so to speak. I came back recently to see how bad things were with the ruin nerf. I remember why I left.

I'm just a rank 14 and the game sometimes puts me with purple/red ranks. I've thought about quitting many times, because it feels bad going against people who know what they're doing while I'm still learning. I even made a dramatic vow to never try killer again, lol.
Though, I did eventually try again because I thought killer just seemed so much more interesting than survivor. But, it became obvious pretty quickly that I was going against higher ranks. Again. In the end, I got one person on the hook. I would have gotten two, but someone did a flashlight save (which I didn't even know was a thing). Anyway, when the gates opened two of them stayed behind and kept motioning me to follow them, so I did. Then they kept pointing at the hooks. They wanted me to hook them, so I did. And after the game, they gave me tips.
They probably pitied me and wanted me to at least get some points, but what I appreciate most was the post-game chat where they took the time to give me tips. They even threw in a gg when they knew damn well they demolished me.
Stuff like that, though extremely rare, kept me from quitting. But it's really hard for new killers to learn when we're constantly being thrown in with people who know how to play already. I want to be a "killer main," but I'm not exactly having the best time trying to learn.

This, precisely. Collectively, us as veteran players, need to do this. We need to recognize when we're against newer players, and help them/give them tops, etc.
As for you personally, I would just keep trying. Practice makes perfect. You can watch good Youtubers/Streamers for tips. Ussylis, Ayrun, Puppers, Monto, ScottJund, Zubatlel, Umbra, and many more. Just keep in mind that losing is all part of the process.

What I hate is when survivors say GG EZ. That EZ part to me is saying "you suck" You got lucky with those survivors. Most won't give you a kill or advice in the end game chat.
3 -
Right. The best you can do is just be helpful yourself, and hopefully other people will reciprocate. The more people we can get to be nice, the better the overall game experience will be for everyone.

Yes, the guys I went up against suggested I watch Umbra too, since I choose Huntress for that game. She really is amazing. Otz was suggested also, and I like how he explains what's going on in the game from time to time. I think that's really one of the best tips to give a new player. Just watch streams and keep trying. You can't really sit us down and teach us, but giving suggestions on who to watch helps. I think I'm maybe improving by watching them, but I still wish I was put against people who were learning with me.
Luckily, I've mostly gotten GGs or nothing at all, which I appreciate just the same. I'd rather they say little to nothing than gloat about how easy it was to win.
But, then again, I usually leave post-game chat immediately, lol.

I'm sorry to say it will almost never get better. Even the killers who claim they are out there 4king like nothing new happened are only saying that because killer has always been pretty stressful. But I think Survivors in general are getting good to the point Killers have diminished ability to really deal with. We all had to know based on Pig of the Huts old experiment with 100 killer games against SWF that it was only inevitable this game would become mostly SWF dominant and therefore, heavily imbalanced when it eventually reached that point. I can't even say we're 100% there now, but it will be the point of death for DBD if they don't take quick corrective action. Dunking on killer is too fun for many to not get better at doing

Killers can still get a lot of kills. You just gotta work for it :)

I can confirm that playing as a red ranked killer ends up with too big of a mix of survivor ranks. It would be nice if it's sorted out, but survivor queue times on pc are vastly longer than killers, so I wonder if it's just trying to find a lobby at that point.

We could help more if we seen the ranks we were going up against. I help new players and old players when they message me for a challenge or if I see they are having a really bad game. Lol I wish there were more nicer survivors. I'd be ok but the bad out weighs the good in the community.

Very well said. I have been playing since the game came to console ( ps4 ), which is what? 3 years now. Anyway, I have learned to watch a players actions, and be able to tell if they are experienced, or not. When playing survivor, and I see another survivor that seems new ( which is kinda rare at red ranks), but does happen time to time. i hope the killer notices it also, and shows a little compassion, and allows the survivor to see, and learn the mechanics of the game, instead of killing them in 2 minutes. If I notice the killer seems new, or is struggling, I myself will back off a bit and not blaze through the match. I'll give them a hit, and possibly a hook. They get a few points, as well as learn a little. When I'm playing killer, and see a survivor that appears to be inexperienced, I will try to coach them along. Take them to a totem, or a chest. Take them to a gen and let them practice skill checks. Leave them be, but find them, and check on them throughout the match. Sure it may cost me some points. Maybe a pip, or rank, but I'm ok with that. To me, other than personal achievement, pip's and ranks are temporary and meaningless. Your impression on someone is everlasting.

Yeah. The best we can do as a community is be nice to others, and hopefully they reciprocate. That's the start of reducing toxicity that's so commonplace here.
Everyone's so stuck in playing a certain way that facilitates toxicity, and the more we can remove people from that the better.
1 -
Let's face it. There will always be those survivors we encounter that make it their main mission in life to basically torture a killer. As long as those kinds of people exist in the game, it just pushes more and more toxic killer tactics.

Its horrendously bad. Yesterday I was in an all red rank lobby and we got paired with a rank 15 killer. Felt so bad afterward.
Had to message the player and apologize. So unfair to them.

Right, so just take it in strides. Don't let those people bother you, and just be nice back to them. It's the best you can do.
0 -
Oh trust me, I do. I seem to encounter a lot of them on Xbox. They usually just sit in the gate waiting for me, but I just face a corner in the basement and let them carry on doing whatever it is they're doing. They'll usually send me messages after a match with the usual 'GG EZ' or whatever. I just GG and move on. I got more important things to do than respond to baity messages haha

Matchmaking has always been like this. This is not something new all of a sudden. At least as long as i have been playing. For years we have read on the forums about low rank killers facing high rank survs and vice versa.
This topic comes up once a week. Lately the situation has gotten really bad and is putting off new people. So be it. If they, the dev's, dont want to address this then oh well. It only hits their bottom line. Its not like people are goign to buy the game and all DLC at once. No. They get the base game and if they leave right away that is all they are goign to get from them

Turn end game chat off as killer. Save yourself the hassle of reading that crap. If you do well and 4k they wont say anything anyway or just insult you for not playing by their rule book.
No tunneling
No Slugging
Go after the unhooker
Go to the other side of the map when you hook
And on and on and on. IF you play by those rules you will lose. That is what they want and that is why they moan. Cos you did not play the way they want you to.
1 -
I agree completely. I'm sure players like us are few, and far between, but at least we're out there.

Actually, those are killer rules for myself when playing killer, because I hold myself to a certain standard. I don't camp, tunnel, slug, body block, take credit for a bad hit, ect. That may be what is holding me back as far as ranks go, but I'm fine with that. Some may say " you're not a true killer main, if you don't take it serious, and play to win ". It's not about winning or losing. It's about playing a solid, honest match that everyone enjoyed. My real life role of being an adult is the one that I take serious, not the role of killer in a video game.

I have had my enjoyment of the game ruined enough times as killer that i really do not care what the game is like for them.
I am an adult and i play a mean killer who throws people on hooks and sometimes gets schooled by them.
If you dont want to be the mean bad ass killer then go and play mario cart, i guess. Better yet do a dance with the 4 survs at the exit gate for your 20 seconds of fun as they forget about you 5 seconds later.
I dont play to win. I play to kill.
2 -
First of all, Mario kart is fun. Second, I have danced with survivors at the exit gate, and that was fun too. Jake was the DJ. I also waved when they left. Third, how about you play your way and I'll play mine. Have a nice day.....

Played Killer for the first time last night in a while. I've dropped down down to rank 9 (was rank 1)
Got NOTHING but red rank teams, not that I care because I can play at that level, but I can't imagine newer killers trying to pick up this game.
I'd actually like to see how many new players are coming into the game on console. It seems like we don't enough

I think Tyde said it best.
"I am the killer. I am going to kill you. It is my objective and I will do everything in my power to accomplish that" or something along those lines.
