Devour Hope = Brutal Killer 🙁

Prologue

Just had a game where my Devour Hope lasted long enough to get me two free mori. I was super excited because typically totems don't really last long since survivors can memorize the common totem spots.

However, when I received my 4K, I received Brutal Killer as a result. I was baffled how I didn't rank up despite me obviously outplaying my opponents.

The ranking system really needs some fine tuning, the emblem system just doesn't work for the killer role because sacrifices, your primary goal, are weighted 25% towards ranking up. I believe something has to give, either make the system based on sacrifices or make skill based mori grant points.

What do y'all think about the killer ranking system? 😁

I love Devour Hope when it works. Just sucks that most totems are across generators or out in the open. Would be nice if the devs would make survivors work a little bit to find or cleanse totems.

I think there should be an exception when you mori someone with Rancor or Devour Hope.

What do you think Elky Welky? 😁

That's because of the Sacrifice Emblem. Since you didn't Hook, and kill the survivors via that way, you did not receive enough points in your Sacrifice Emblem that it forced you to only get as high as a "Brutal Killer".

It's funny that the Survivor emblem system enables them to play many different ways that they desire - stealthy, self-sacrificing, very fast, alone, or as a group - But Killer emblems are designed in a way that if you don't play one specific way you lose points in certain categories, and have to make up the points by alternative means.

Interesting way to run an asymmetrical game that the ranking system punishes the solo role, for being a solo role. It doesn't work. But it is interesting.

The ranking system is borked. This shouldn't surprise you though. If you kill your opponents too fast then you aren't going to be able to get all your emblems high enough. Kills do not equal emblems. You can get 0 kills and pip or get 4 kills and no pip. The 2 things are completely independent of each other. Personally, I would trash the current system for killers and go back to the old victory cube in a heartbeat. It was perfect.

I just dislike how the system goes against the developer's balance standard for killers.

The developers balance standard, for those who don't know, is as follows:

    • 0K-1K: Lose
    • 2K: Draw
    • 3K-4K: Win

I agree, the old system was a lot better and definitely fits the developers standards. 😁

I couldn't care less about the ranking system. As long as I got 4 BBQ stacks and had a fun game, maybe sacrificed a few survivors here and there, made good plays etc. The emblem changes the Devs make mean nothing to me and probably a ton of other people too, because changing the rank system doesn't make the core game any more or less compelling, it just means you'll get more pity points at the cost of more fun now because games last 5 minutes and therefore have much less interaction between the killer and the survivors. I sound kind of mad in this long-ass paragraph but I don't mean to, it's just my thoughts on this system because it'll never be perfect and we've all kind of accepted that fact lol. We just desperately need more things to flesh out the actual matches to make them feel less stressful for killers while at the same time not making survivors hold M1 on gens any longer than they have to (which is why I very much prefer Scott's idea for the early game over simply an increase in gen times)

I do think using certain perks like Rancor or Devour should give you something extra. Or get better scoring for killing people while using them.

For Mori offerings, I get that it gives you a penalty. Devour should give you a bonus if anything, definitely not a brutal.

Exactly this. I get that you don't want to reward Mori offerings too much, but at the same time there are games where you very much earned it. Like, how you gonna tell someone who pulled off 4k with Fragrant Tuft + Tombstone that they lost a pip?
