DC penalties rob a killer of the satisfaction of making players DC
i'm gonna miss that disconnect sound as a killer. so satisfying.

As it may be satisfying it shouldn't be a goal tho, also you may still get d/c's

Kind of true. When the tbagging survivor messes up at a loop and gets hit then you hear the satisfying sound of the disconnect and see their lifeless body hit the floor.
Or the killer who tunneled all game, then sees his NOED totem blow up and the game cuts to the end screen.
Those were satisfying moments.

Thx, but no thx, I preffer the points and having a better match for all. But I can see how people who have fun being toxic will be a little affected. I won't cry for them.

I actually haven't noticed a difference. People are still DCing.
Today, I had a game as Wraith, on Ormond. I downed a David, hooked him. I then downed a Jake, went to pick him up, and a Laurie came in with a flashlight save. So I chased her into the building, and downed her in 10 seconds. I shook me head in game, and she DC'd.
:D

Looking forward to this, BHVR should be proud of this achievement.

I just kill myself on hook now if I don’t wanna play against a killer I’ve gotten so many salty msgs today it’s funny

just slug instead, it's almost more satisfying watching them bleed out.

You can probably find it on YouTube.

Why are so many people posting threads against the DC penalties? They're good both as a killer and a survivor
6 -
I think it stems from guys like the OP. He obviously plays this game to be a griefer. He enjoys ruining other's enjoyment of things and wants them to get upset. There are a lot of survivors and killers that are like that. Unfortunately, BHVR does nothing to dissuade that type of behavior and in some ways encourages it.
Though I despise DCs, and 90% of them were sensitive survivors, there were some who were just tired of being camped or tunneled. THose guys have no choice now.

You just have to try harder. Life isn't easy.

Because there is a bug where you can't press buttons in game, on top of the million other bugs that get added and removed with every patch. I just sat through a 10 minute game with crows where I couldn't move or press any buttons and the killer didn't killer me. What should I do? I can't even troubleshoot because I can't relaunch the buggy game without a penalty. A rule that punishes innocents for a buggy game because it ALSO punishes the criminals is a bad rule.

If is mori well say good bye to my butt on the first hook lol.

The DC penalty will never stop people from DCing. If they do enforce the penalty, they stand a good shot at losing their player base.

They had the DC penalty live around Christmas. They lost none of their playerbase. Yet another false claim about DC penalties.
Besides, if you do manage to make someone DC now, you earned that. You really had to frustrate them to make them DC and take the timeout. That just makes any DC all that much sweeter.

You do need to consider that everyone knew that was a test for a predefined timeframe..
As for your second point, personally I don't like it because it fails to distinguish a player disconnecting from an actual toxic game compared to someone ragequitting. I played several games today and I was tunneled immediately at 5 gens off my first hook. Not running DS cause I don't want to rely on it, and there is literally nothing I can do when I'm just trying to get wglf stacks. What should I have done as the killer was literally just going straight for me despite going to the other side of the map and immediately coming back and ignore the person who unhooked. I would dc penalty or not as that's just not fun and frankly a lot of killers enjoy doing that which says a lot about the state of the game.

I play killer actually I hated when people disconnected from my matches as it was robbing my satisfaction to hook them and nod at them. I feel waaaay more satisfied knowing they get their asses banned.
2 -
I don't recall receiving a penalty and I played 100 hours or so over Xmas break and DC'd a normal amount of times.

Console? If I recall correctly, it was only on the PC at that time. Not sure the exact dates, but tbh the matches were so much better. I didn't have a single DC in any of the ones I played while it was active. It made it so much better to play on both sides, for me at least.

Yeah. I can understand dc'ing at that point, I wouldn't, but it's not uncalled for with gameplay like that.
DCs have been abused by both sides for too long though. At this point, they need to get harsh on them for a time. Once it's not an issue, maybe they can lighten it up a bit and reduce penalties. Actually give 1 freebie per day or something. That would be fair, but you have to get the ones who DC because they are whiny and can't play normal to stop first.

So you waited 10 minutes so you wouldn't have to wait a few minutes? This system isn't so that you never disconnect again, but so that you only disconnect if you need to. If you need to disconnect, then go ahead and disconnect. Unless you're disconnecting with significant frequency, it shouldn't have much of an impact on you.

Whatever floats your boat, personally I'd rather get my BBQ stack, PGTW activation or whatever else I'm running that relies on a hook.
And not like it'll eliminate disconnections anyway. I still see both survivors and killers do good old ragequits despite the penalties, the first tiers of timeouts aren't that harsh anyway.

PC. I only disconnect when the game is terrible. Like playing killer on a map with overpowered tiles and 5000 pallets, which is kinda all of them.

👏👏 well said 👍👍

For you maybe. The player on the other end is being robbed of the chance to play, get points, and enjoy the game..

Agreed. Now they are almost forced to have to tolerate such shady game play, or be put in " time out ".... kind of a catch 22.. it's almost literally damned if you do. Damned if you don't....

Nope, I am happy that I can FINALLY play spirit after months.

Some people get their happiness from other people's misery..

I still have them... when i play killer and when i play survivor, is just less frequent.

Actually, this penalty damages more killer than survivors. If a survivors doesn't want to play the match anymore, he can just kill himself on the hook. A killer, instead, is forced to be bullied for the entirety if the match. So, fellow killer main, shut up and don't be cocky, cause the one who gets rekt by this update is you. Also, i think that making players dc is always satisfying, but now making killers dc will be even more fun, cause they will have to wait minutes for a new match.

You are so right, it will be missed.
I will also miss some "comedy DCs.":
- Last week a Doctor spent the entire game chasing me, he finally downed me and then immediately disconnected. I would love to have seen the satisfaction the player got from that.
- Playing survivor, I stole a team mates chest item, later in the game she sandbagged me by dropping a pallet to lead the killer towards us, then she teabagged and DCd.
I will miss these lovely funny moments.

devs have already said that slugging is OK and part of the core gameplay experience. you just have to deal with it.

Dont worry, automatic struggle is going to be the next change

i Bubba camped for 6 games yesterday and no one disconnected i was so sad and bored about it that i left to play a different game T_T

It'll just make it that much sweeter when it happens.

Three parts.
- I don't know how long it will take a killer to decide to kill my bugged self, and I don't know if a hook will fix the bug. I don't know what's best from a time management perspective until I look retroactively. Also If it happens again that day, or twice more, it's better to wait the first time for total time spent.
- Why should I be punished in any way for doing nothing wrong? If you were banned from a game because of a bug, but they told you they also got a lot of exploiters in the ban wave, are you now okay with the punishment because rule breakers were also punished?
- A reward system, or karma system would accomplish the same goal without blocking people who've done nothing wrong. If players were rewarded in a meaningful way for not disconnecting, or if players who disconnect frequently were paired with other people who disconnect frequently in matches. Reward behavior you like, instead of punishing behavior you don't like and random bystanders.

I'll admit that the system could definitely be better given a more intelligent development team. Right off the bat I would say the first disconnect shouldn't have a penalty. Each disconnect should increment some recent disconnects variable, and every 3 or so games played without a disconnect should have it go down one. Depending on how high that variable is, that's how long you should wait for a game, and if it goes high enough a full 24 hour ban.
But you have to understand that this development team is only this good. This is a huge step forward, and 5 minutes every now and then is barely anything in comparison to all the time you would have wasted inside games where people intentionally disconnected on you. Make no mistakes, you're absolutely wasting far less time now unless you're one of the people intentionally disconnecting.
