Why did DbD so scared of gore /dismemberment/ decapitation?

I just tried out the last year: The nightmare free weekend and dannnnngggggg.

This game was FAR more brutal than any DbD killer. DbD killers are basically survivors compared to the Last Year killers. Yeah demo? all he does is nibble on ur face then spits you out. The spider killer in Last Year actually rips the head off and swallows it.

Oni? Hes just playing whack a mole in his mori. The survivors in Last year actually get dismembered and decapitated sometimes.

Why cant DbD have cool animations like this? :(

    Programming difficulty most likely tbh.

The engine probably makes it difficult.

I think the devs made a statement about this? Not sure but I think. Idk why they don’t, it would make moris so much more worthwhile to watch. The only dismemberment we really have is clown cutting off a finger and oni ripping out a tongue. That’s one thing I liked more about F13th, the kills in the game were brutal and awesome. If you want an honest answer I think the reason is because it requires more work to do. Hopefully it changes in the future though

Some countries in europe and the middle east are extremely sensitive with excessive gore on videogames, so adding decapitated heads and dismembered bodies might not be the brightest idea in terms of profit.

This is probably the real reason yeah. Though I will be honest, just Germany or a few places I doubt would be enough to affect it; also some characters pull out guts or cut off fingers and such already.

I can see it being the reason if China had something against it though, most financial backing and a huge market comes from there.

    Brutality has its limits.

Not every place will accept high brutality, for example, some places will not allow the gore, some other places will outright ban it.

Games that have those elements (like FT13) can be banned on European countries like Germany.

I don't get it though if they are just visual why can't that visual be disabled in those countries? So it only shows on the other's clients? I've seen that in similar games before, as long as there are not ragdoll effects or phyics it works.

It more than likely has to do with gore/violence and other countries. Games have been banned in other countries for gore/violence. Search banned games + Germany.

The doctor lore video was pretty graphic. If that doesn't cause a ban i don't think much more will.

    That wasn’t extremely gory however.

if the video had doctor completely tearing the guy limb from limb then doing his thing then that could cause some problems possibly

Devs. Last year even lunched in a better state, then DBD is currently is. Can't wait until it's out for console and not in a half-baked state like DBD

Because of customization. Last Year has only recolours, DbD instead has more characters, each with dozen variations. To make proper gore effects (that don't look bad) they would need an insane amount of work.

They stated in 2017 during one of the streams that it would be technicaly difficult . As White Owl above mentioned

There is (USK) and DbD has an 18 rating (only sellable to 18+, so adults), the same as Doom(2016) e.g. So I wouldn't say that gore itself isn't problem anymore in Germany.

But back before the USK was legally binding Games were more likely getting banned by a Federal Department, which can put games on a list of harmful media for young people, which doesn't completely ban them, but gives such media the same status like porn e.g. So, no public advertising, sold only when asked etc. A pseudoban.

Back in the 90s and early 2000s Germany was very sensitive towards violence in video games and a lot landed on the list or got special releases, when characters had to be changed for humans to robots e.g. etc. That's why people still think of Germany when thinking of a country which bans Games for Gore/Violence, even though times have quite changed now.

Japan is extremely strict on showing any kind of decapitation as well. They censor it in games all the time. Resident Evil 4 when Leon gets his head chainsawed off? Still attached in Japan. The police officer decapitated in Resident Evil 7 and you have to retrieve a key from his neck hole? Head still attached and the key is in his hand.

We can't show to much extensive gore

Think of all the 13 year olds that play this game

Feel like its not so much they're scared of doing it, but moreso that it'd probably take time away from other things to focus on changing survivor models to allow it etc. and seen as it only really happens during mori animations i dont see it as a high priority for the devs.

    just my 2 cents
