Personal Gripes with Demo and Devour Hope
Been seeing talk and videos of demogorgon with devour hope and how "good" it was and as a demo main I felt it right to express my utter disdain for how awful hex totem perks are and how even with demogorgon with his ability to "defend" them, they are still utter trash and DH is no exception.
I personally playtested a few hours matches with DH too make sure my arguments held up and oh sure they did to the fullest, in my matches here is the general standard of what occurred.
Either...
- The game would be a slaughter and I wouldn't even be able to use devour hope even though I was able to defend it because the game was over by 2 or less stacks, generally these were games where the survivors were reckless and there was a dc.
- The game would go as normal, I would place my portal to defend the totem but the survivors would constantly go after it, every chase, every time I would pressure a gen they would go after it and it would be gone before I could return via walking or portal, I could not do anything productive without my totem being at risk and they would usually time it when I picked someone up to enter the portal range and take out the totem before I could return.
- I would find myself in situations where I would have to sacrifice good chases or gens to protect the totem, all for it to be for naught because whenever I would pressure away from it they would claim it anyways before I could get the stacks necessary for even the one shot.
- In NONE of these games was I even able to reach 3 stacks before the totem was gone.
Totems have always been known to be unreliable and the thing with demogorgon is some people think with his portals he can quell that unreliability, that is incorrect. It mostly wastes your time, many games were made harder for me because I had to defend and worry about a stupid totem that wasn't doing anything for me all early game, and when the totem was gone it was basically old ruin and a wasted perk slot. Having to sacrifice consistency with a roll of the dice gamble perk is horrible when playing at red ranks because you just don't have the time or the ability to defend your totem properly and leaving good chases or sacrificing gens just to keep it up for longer is a huge downfall, even doing the main objective of chasing and hooking is a risk just to get the stacks because they target the totem as you chase or go to hook.
All and all I wouldn't really trust those vids or whoever say's DH is useful on demo, it is a waste or a perk slot and only will waste your time, and generally if that totem actually works it is one of two scenario's: You get a godly totem spot or the survivors are bots... or both.

High risk high reward. But don't head straight to your totem ever. They may be following you

More like 90% fail rate 10% maybe a reward if the game doesn't end before you get past 3 stacks.

but that 10% can be a heavily favorable reward to you

My gripe with the totems is that they are hardly ever worth it to you, a very specific circumstance needs to happen for you to get the totems to actually do their job in red ranks. That isn't high risk high reward, it bad design
