RED HERRING PERK
Been watching a video on the new chapter 15 gameplay and a perk that concerns me is red herring. if you work on a generator for 3 seconds then get inside a locker you can activate red herring were as the generator you were working on shows a failed skill check to the killer. now the problem i have is survivours cannot see this alert, so you will have troll players setting you up. i think the devs should make it so that the perk on has a affect on generators that are unmanned as to stop any unfair play.

I think the perk needs to be completely redesigned.
Besides being perfect for trolling teammates there's no reason to have a perk that does exactly what missing a skillcheck does.
Yeah, yeah you could go into a locker on the other side of the map and trigger it, but now you're in a locker on the other side of the map doing [BAD WORD] all just so you can make a loud noise that the Killer may or may not investigate.
I really don't understand when this perk would be more useful than Diversion.

yes this is exactly what i mean, i suppose maybe good to distract the killer so you can unhook someone, (if the killer is camping out he aint moving anyway) but other than that it will just be used for all the wrong reasons. maybe if it showed up a fake ora until the killer was in a certin distance

Lol thanks for the idea.

I like the perk. The boom will cover up the noise of you getting into a locker. Run it with quick and quiet during a chase, killer will hear a boom and assume you took a vault and get bamboozled.
I've never seen a killer do a 180 degree turn and go and investigate the pebble unless they weren't doing anything prior. The pebble can only send the killer so far away. The fish can send the killer to the other side of the map.

Yup, right when I read the description the first thing that came to mind was trolling. As if solo queue isn't bad enough already.

I could see it being used when 2 people are left work a gen on the other side and both set it off while you 2 work on a gen. Any killer without whispers would think your over there with 2 failed skill check notifications

A lot of perks can be used similarly - I don't think interesting designs should be excluded due to a potential for causing problems. Bond, for example, can be used to know where your teammates are - should that perk not exist just because people can use it to sandbag? It's a difficult decision to make, but I think that most people tend to play the game as intended, so Red Herring causing an explosion could result in accidental sandbagging just as much as tossing Diversion pebble could, but likely more believable.

they wont think you took a vault it only works on gens, i think the vault thing is a better idea or gen or heal, whatever is closest to you and as long as all other suvivors can see this as well.

also it wont cover the sound of entering a locker as this activates after you enter a bit like diversion

seems that you need all the help you can get if your a poor player so your welcome

thats exactly why they should be excluded, why do you need to see your team mates anyway? im level 5-1 all the time and never used it

How do you know if it was a gen or a vault through a wall? Also most people dont look at the warning, they hear it and look at the direction indicator

whats the point of it then other than to troll?

With Bond, I wish we could decide whether or not to opt-out of displaying our Aura to other Survivors. Especially against trolls if you could do it on an in-game basis. In many cases I find people using it to lose The Killer and bring him to you. In those instances, I would opt-out.

Now imagine everyone opting out - boom that one person doesnt have a perk anymore

I also think that Red Herring could use a tweak. I like on this perk that it is far better placed than Diversion, because pebbles can be easily recognized as pebble if you don't hit a target that makes sense to cause a notification. But Red Herring is way harder to apply and time correctly so that it really gets the killer's attention.
I would just add the possibility to apply the Red Herring effect to more objects, like crouch in front of a window or locker for 3 seconds to apply the notification on this one. Would be just the question if the perk needs to be deactivated once all gens are done or during EGC. But as it is not the strongest perk, I would keep the possibility to have a chance as last survivor with that perk, as long as the gate placement isn't reworked.

just make it so that Red Herring doesn ot work on a gen players are currently working on

I wanted to play a Inner streanght build with that, that would make alot of sense honestly.

It would be no different than using Calm Spirit on most Killers or Unbreakable on a killer that never slugs. Sometimes perks have no use in a match for whatever reason, that's one of the risks associated with them.

I stand by what I said. While Inner Strength would synegize with Red Herring you could just fail a skillcheck or throw a pebble before you heal in a locker. Or not give the Killer any loud noise notifications at all and heal quietly.
I heard Puppers say he'll use it specifically to help with Head Ons, but, IMO, even then it's the same as failing a skillcheck and then hiding in a locker in the hope that the Killer will stop what they're doing and investigate the noise so you can bonk them.
Instead of using a perk that creates a loud noise at a gen, just don't press Spacebar and you'll accomplish as much as the perk would, but without using a perk slot or needing to wait for a minute long cooldown.

Except that waiting for a skill check is unreliable, you could get your first skill check after 10% repair or after 50%. Also you regress a generator with that. I wouldnt look so sceptical on that perk if I would be you. I mean head on is not a TOP TIER META PERK aswell, its cool to have funny perks to try out new things. I personally would like to see more of these perks.
