Is grab broken?

I’ve just had 2 separate matches and in the first one I went to grab a Dwight off a gen, I even made the grabbing animation, but he just stood up and ran off? And then in the second match, I grabbed a Jane off a totem, again touching her shoulder and doing the animation but just like the Dwight she stood up and ran off. Is this a glitch or a latency issue?

I’m currently running M&A and it’s allowing me to get really close to survivors but grabbing just won’t work for me.

    Latency issue, it sucks ik, but we Ghostface players that go for grabs gotta deal with it.

    Grabbing is heavily effected by latency. If you try to grab a survivor and they run as you attempt the grab it cancels it. You just need to be completely unseen or find survivors that aren't afraid of being grabbed, like DS users.

    There was a challange that we have to get 2 grabs. I did it after 40ish games because of that. And i did it just because those survivors wanted to farm after one DCed

    That’s the thing, on my screen I’m half way through the animation and then they stand up and run off. That’s what made me think it was somehow broken. It’s like I’m grabbing their soul instead of their body. It hasn’t been annoying, but I was just curious.

    The most annoying part is that it doesn't autocancel into an attack on a failure so the survivor could get away without taking a hit while you're in the grab animation.

    If I can't vibe check them at least let me get an attack in.

    It's the dedicated servers. The game no longer depends on the killer's machine to verify all the info, so killer's perspective doesn't get as much authority as it once did. Previously, killer's info trumped EVERYTHING. Now, it occasionally give killer priority, but a lot more situations are handled on a first come/first serve. So survivor sees you coming, pulls off Gen some milliseconds before you go for em, but game hasn't quite sent that info to you. Your game approves the grab, server tells it surv is no longer in position for grab, then suddenly bolt, and your game can no longer tell the server to swing instead of grab because you're already "grabbing". Now you lose out on both. Not much to be done there. Vault grabs still manage to work because surv has a window of vulnerability once they start, and if you start the grab anywhere in thst window, it'll take. Gens they are only vulnerable until they let go, so the window is infitesimal. I suppose that, actually, is the way to "fix" Gen grabs... Give Survivors a short "disengaging" function when they let go that keeps them pinned to the Gen for a brief window to match vaults, but that would feel really crappy to players, most likely.

    It is broken

    No matter how hard I try I cannot pick up survivors unhooking, meaning they will allways have a free unhook

    I’ve also had it happen to me plenty of times recently. Where I’ve gone for the unhook and I can see the killers hand on my shoulder but it still let’s me get the save and ignores them clearly grabbing me. It’s weird.

    Yeah, so far I’ve had no issues whatsoever with vault grabs. But when they’re on totems, generators or going in for an unhook, it just won’t work. Although from my end I’ve clearly grabbed them before they’ve moved.

    Grab is so broken right now. Not only are you losing the grab , but you are not even getting credited for the hit and the survivor just runs away unharmed. But like @TheLastGreatStar said, I haven't seen it on vault grabs, but all others.

    Mm I have trouble with Trapper when trying to grab survivors stuck in bear traps. Not at all good when you have stbfl.

    I’m glad it’s not just happening to me then. I’m starting to think it isn’t latency though. Because my hits connect when they should, vault grabs work etc. It’s just grabbing off things that doesn’t. So that’s what makes me think it’s just broken right now. Keeping all of you Scratch Mirror Myers in my prayers.

    Yeah happened to me 3 times in one game the other day. A bit frustrating.

    I grabbed the same Feng three times off a gen last night as Myers. Last week when I played him, I couldn't grab for #########. Dedicated servers does stupid stuff to some games and missed grabs is one of them.

    It's so frustrating! I don't even go for the gen grab anymore. I just try and make sure I get the hit.

    Part of it as well, is that the player is running AT a vault, so before game gets a position update, they assume the player is still doing so. M1ing an object, the server has NO predictive data, so it will assume the player is sitting there. So when the positions update to server, in example one, the survivor is close to where the server predicted, in example 2, the survivor bolted and now server has to update him being much further away. If you happen to be grabbing in the middle of #1, you're probably close enough for server to back you up. In case #2, you just get jammed instead, as I'm sure it has a threshold for how much leeway it's allowed to take in fudging things to look right.

    The only thing I can recommend is press the button to do the grab a bit earlier than you normally would. This seems to help a bit on PS4 at least. I play Leatherface a lot and people jump in lockers to avoid the saw, but as long as I complete the tantrum pressed on the locker, there's a brief period where I can grab them as they jump out. I kept missing the grab because of the dedicated servers when it always worked prior. I started pressing the button earlier than I would when I was hosting the game and I was finally able to consistently nail the grabs.
