Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Is SWF on the chopping block?!

We’ve all seen the correlation between forum complaints and changes.

  • Endless complaints about nurse, followed by nerf.
  • same for spirit.
  • Freddy was overhauled.
  • doctor was changed.
  • DS was nerfed.
  • There was the start of a coordinated assault on Billy, but that seems to have fizzled out.

Well now things are starting to get really interesting. I have never seen so many threads complaining about SWF in so short a time before! Is it coincidence? Is it a coordinated assault? Will there be changes forthcoming?

We’ve got a front row seat people. Grab some popcorn and let’s see where this thing goes!

    I doubt it.

I’ll say that, as an observer, the battle lines have already been drawn.

SWF is front and center in forum scrutiny right now. Offense is making its case known. An important first step for any attack.

The defense is powerful though. Every suggestion regarding any change to SWF whatsoever is immediately and harshly countered. No matter how logical or thoughtful, the poster of a change idea will receive personal attacks or be told that their idea would kill the game. This is a side-eyed warning to the powers that be.

At this point, the opposing sides seem evenly matched! Who will emerge victorious? Only the Devs can decide!

Depends on what you mean by the chopping block.

If you mean we'll actually see more of the "close the gap" philosophy they've been talking about? Maybe. SWF indicators and stuff like bonus BP has a non-zero probability of happening too.

If you mean stuff like mechanical handicaps (slower action speed, less perks) or the truly silly things like trying to interfere with VOIP applications or removing SWF? Lolno, Hell will go through 94 ice age cycles before any of that ever happens.

Good points. What I mean by chopping block is a change (any change really) that could be seen as a SWF nerf (or buff to other players - which is a SWF nerf by comparison). You know, the sort of thing where even the suggestion makes the SWFr Sweepers blow their minds. 🤯

You can’t punish people for playing with their friends, it’s that simple. What they need to do is “close the gap” but it’s been a long wait now

as for some changes you listed:

Spirit needed changes, and some argue she still does

Freddy was god awful and his rework made him better, maybe too good but that’s a different discussion

    DS change was needed

I'm a survivor main, and strictly solo survivor. I don't have any friends that play DBD and I can't stand playing with random people on this game. I have run across the worst people that way.

In other words I have no idea what it is like as a killer to play against SWF and won't pretend to claim a buff is or is not needed. I don't have the knowledge necessary to even have an educated opinion.

The opinion I can make is this though: I enjoy this game as a solo at the moment. The challenge as it is right now is more than adequate for my tastes. If they start buffing killers to better compete with SWF I'm going to lose interest in a hurry as a solo survivor, and I would guess (only a guess) that lots of other solo survivors would quit also.

The thing is I play on PS4. There is no way BHVR is going to be able to do anything about SWF on PS4. They can't control players starting a party on PS4 and playing together. In other words the only way to do something about SWF on PS4 is to buff killers, and that would simply make the game not worth playing as a solo survivor.

Not in a million years. They punish people simply for playing with their friends and they are nailing the coffin shut on the game.

They will never change SWF. You don’t understand this game or people if you think it will be changed.

Yeah, just cut off the most valuable playerbase you have for some unreasonable rants. Would be a really good idea.

And here goes the first defender with steel strong arguments.

Here’s an idea: what if SWFs were limited to only 2 people?

@Dwight_Fairfield mounts a defense with the age old “you can’t punish people for playing with friends.”

@LetsPlayTogether backs him up with a warning to the devs about a loss of player base, but is quickly called out by @avilmask !

@Butcher_Pete Attempts to propose an actual suggestion for consideration. Will he escape unscathed and begin a thoughtful discussion, or are the personal attacks being prepared at this very moment?

Stay tuned folks! The fireworks are only beginning!

@yobuddd Its not a defense its a fact. You can hold me to this. They are not going to do anything to stop people from playing with their friends. Its such a huge and popular part of the game that keeps many of the player base coming back.

I can respect that. However, SWF holds the power. So it’s important to remember that there’s a difference between balancing and punishing. Because of it’s powerful position, any change that is suggested or implemented is likely to be a nerf to SWF or buff to the others. It’ll FEEL like a punishment.

The best way to avoid a knee-jerk reaction is to actively engage in the discussion and provide ideas.

Start by identifying the problem. Is it SWF? No. Is it comms? Yes. Can comms be policed? No. Can balance be achieved any other way? Maybe. And that’s where the discussion should start.

That would have similar results as removing SWF altogether. People would dodge lobbies and snipe each other. They love to play together and socialize playing the game in bigger groups than two.

Honestly the only way to deal with SWF is, to balance with survivor teamplay as a must in mind and not design it as teamplay is just optional.

The gap will NEVER be closed (unless you think sacrificing perk slots for new Kindred and Saboteur counts as closing).

SWF will NEVER be penalized - the devs have said as much.

Finally, there is NO POSSIBLE COMPENSATION that killers can get to counter the myriad of free information that would not break the game or require a complete game overhaul.

If you can't accept that this is how things are going to be FOREVER, you may as well quit the game.

    That's the honest truth.

OP is missing one important detail - SWF is a killer complaint. Therefore, they will be buffed.
