Is there any benefit to toolboxes now?
Haven't played in a while and just came back to the new toolbox change.
Which makes me question, what's the point in a toolbox that breaks so fast? It doesn't feel like they're speeding the gen up much either.
I agree that they needed a nerf, but it kind of feels like they don't have any notable impact on the game whatsoever.

Toolboxes are now focused more on sabo than gens.

Definitely this
I never bring a toolbox with the intention to use it on gens anymore, only time I'd consider using one on gens is at the end of the game with maybe one or two gens left and almosy being finished a gen when the killer is nearby

Honestly the new toolbox nerf is rather shameful. Admittedly I would rarely go into a trial with one except when I had a sabo daily. But whenever I would open a chest and find a yellow, green or hell a sweet purple one I would cherish and use it when things got tough and would play harder and better to not die and lose it. But now no matter what the thrill of having one and that feeling of accomplishment when fixing a gen faster because of it is now all gone. And on killer side I would feel amazing using FD to knock a green or purple toolbox out of someone's hands like "Ha! Sucks to be you!"...now it's more like "Eh...why bother bringing it in?" Especially since you lose any add-ons the toolbox is now all but worthless in most aspects. Now I don't feel so bad when I prestige and trash all my toolboxes.

I think the intention is they are more for getting that last little bit done on a priority gen a little faster, but they aren't going to last through 3 gens anymore. So while not as useful as they once were, they can be helpful for finishing a gen you are concerned may get regressed thanks to pop goes the weasel or something.
And as Danu and Spannungsstob said, toolboxes are more for enabling sabotage now, but really unless all four survivors are running with the intention of going full sabo it's not really that difficult to deal with for killers.

Don't gens already go fast enough? I mean, a good team can knock them out in under 5 mins, and your complaining that you can't do them faster? That nerf was WELL needed, and some...

The concept was to change toolboxes to be tactical rather than strategic. I used a "Toolbox" (the yellow one) the other day on a gen while working with a 2nd Survivor as the Killer approached. It saved us a few seconds. The Killer hit me, I ran off, then he hit the other Survivor about 0.5 seconds after she got the gen done. Without the toolbox, we would not have gotten the gen done, and it's likely we would have lost a lot of progress due to a PGtW kick. With one of the old-style toolboxes, the time saved during the Killer's approach wouldn't have been enough, either.
So the new toolboxes, while an overall nerf (they save less net time), have enabled a new set of possible plays.

Yes, their point is to speed up gen repairs or sabo. Save them for when you have 1/5 to 1/3 of a gen left or so and you need to finish quickly. Whether that's because the killer is headed your way or you need to save someone from the hook or something.

Theyre useless outside of sabo now, but that's ok seeing as gens can still be finished rather fast.

In no way did I complain about gens being too slow to complete nor did I suggest that I've ever had any issue with the gen completion time. I've even recommended slowing down the time to complete gens in the past and in this very thread said that I agreed the toolboxes needed a nerf.
This was very clearly a post asking about the toolbox change and what impact it has on the game. If you don't have anything valuable to add, please take your mindless toxicity elsewhere.

The right thing to do would've been to make the brown toolbox charge good for 75% of a gen and increase each subsequent toolbox base charge by 25%. As of now, they're useless for gens.

Gotta love how people were freaking out how they 'buffed' toolbox repairs and now suddenly they're useless lol
For real though, they are weaker overall but more useful and fun to use in certain situations. No more having a commodius toolbox with Streetwise and charge addons to make your repair speed stupidly fast for the entire match with no extra effort.

Yeah. After ruin nerf toolboxes had to go.

I agree with this, because I used to do that with toolboxes before the nerf too.
I do think that they sort of feel ‘meh’ now. I think it would help if there were key visuals to understand how much of an impact they have, so maybe if a toolbox is being used while repairing, the repair bar turns bright green or something.
I know this can only help so much, but the scenario you describe is probably the only one that you will feel like they mean something. Other than that it’s a “oh 3 second toolbox...ok”.

Toolboxes are a waste of BPs now. Like so many Survivor things.
(The Nerf was 100% justified, but maybe they went too far with it)

All toolboxes are essentially a BNP for gens and sabo tools now. Only worth running in swf, i prefer a medkit anyway. :)

It is definitely not a brand new part. A brown lasts for about 10% of a gen and it barely increases the speed.
They're a waste of bloodpoints. Completely pointless taking them in, may as well just hoard them. I expected charges to be reduced but the amounts they did it by were beyond stupid. 180 charges down to 32 charges. It should have been a fairer change rather than just trying to push everyone to use them for sabotaging. Which in time killer mains will cry loudly enough about and that will get changed too.

TECHNICALLY a BNP. You use them like a BNP, but they're not as effective as a BNP, that's true.

The times the toolboxes "seem" to come in clutch are rare. They last such a short period of time, to use them just feels disappointing. I still wish they had adjusted gen speed and left tool boxes alone. When you spend thousands upon thousands of hard earned blood points on items, they shouldn't feel like they give you a 1% advantage. I hate flashlight saves as a Killer and I don't run them as a survivor. For me, that only leaves keys and med kits as something that is worth having. I'm sure keys will get nerfed somehow in the future because that is the main Killer gripe now.
The developers have done everything in the world to make the game less Killer sided EXCEPT what actually needs to be done. Fix maps and extend gen speeds is what should have been done long ago. Keep the ruin change because it is annoying and revert all the item changes. Bring back BNP, old toolboxes and insta heals!
Once I P3 a survivor and get all perks, I don't waste another BP on them. I play Killer maybe 20% of the time and I'd rather dump BP in a Killer I don't play than to dump 1 extra one into a P3 all perk survivor. It feels like throwing money out the window.

Toolboxes are basically like little BNP's now, instead of just using toolbox on the first gen you come across at the beginning of the match, you're gonna want to keep your toolbox until you think it's necessary to fly through a gen at the speed of light

Look at the botton of that page, there are two tables containing old and new toolboxes overall speed on a gen. For example, the brown toolbox was weak before nerf already. It saved 7,3 seconds of speed, while having to sit on the gen for 73 seconds. Now you can get just 5,4 seconds saved (2 seconds less than before) but also just have to use it for 10 seconds to get the reduction. Commodius toolbox has the same speed boost regarding a whole gen, but just lasts for half a gen, not for 2 and a half.
@NursesBootie @MPUK The Engineers toolbox is almost the same as a BNP. BNP gives you 15-25% progression within 5 seconds depending if you hit the skillchecks. An engineers toolbox with double speed addons takes about 6 seconds for 20% progress without skillchecks necessary (With +12 charges instead of the smaller speed addon, you get 35% in 11,2 seconds)
@Almo do you have any numbers on sabotage charges and consumption for toolboxes? It seems they are a bit inconsistent. At least in the PTB I had a yellow toolbox with Spool Wire (20+12=32 charges) last for a bit over 6 hooks and a commodius (32 charges) lasted for exactly 5 hooks. I would really like to know if charge addons are worth it whe I go for sabotage, without first wasting items and addons to take notes for every case :/ I have read something about increased consumption during sabotage, but there is nothing written in the toolbox description ingame

Toolboxes use two charges per second to sabotage a hook instead of the usual 1 charge per second while repairing.

youre kidding right? your team didn't even half way nerf the tool boxes. tool boxes were nerfed to the equivalent of the pink screw. how do you think our toolboxes are the equivalent of the pink screw when that was nerfed to hell. What i'd like to see more often is addons that give a boost to our abilities, as the killers have. a boost to exhaust rate, after dropping a pallet scratch marks disappear for 10 seconds. how do you think its fair to have a perk that lights up gens for 10 secs if being worked?

Had something like this happen in a game as well. I find the change a welcome, because I need to be more tactical with it instead of blindly using it to shave off so many seconds off a gen.

I loved to use toolboxes and while I think they needed a nerf, since ruin was changed too, I think it was too much. Even the rarer toolboxes just end up getting used in a few seconds, there is no incentive for me to bring a toolbox instead of a medkit. For example, I have been finding green toolboxes on chests and decided to keep my brown medkit instead, which, before the nerf, would have been crazy for me.

At this point they're just one more useless thing clogging up my blood webs.
