@survivors, do you enjoy the info the game is giving you these days?

Sadly I feel I need to start by saying that pls, dont make this some Us vs Them discussion or bring in all kinds of unrelated things. Im merely asking what people think off or how they feel about, all the info the game just...gives them these days:

You touch a gen, you immediatly get an icon telling you Huntress Lullaby is in effect (even when not a single soul has been hooked yet)

Mindbreaker? the game just tells you and tells you when the effect is over

Dead Man's Switch? the game just tells you

NoeD, the game tells you, you dont need to pay attention if someone goes down in one hit, it just tells you and loudly so.

Devour Hope? again it just tells you.

A bit more specific, Myers still in T3? an icon on the side of the screen will tell you, no need to look at myers, the way he walks which was specifically made to convey this information, all you need to do is pay attention of the side of the screen for that icon, you wont get caught off guard if you miss the map wide music sting because again, just look for that icon.

Probably a lot more things im currently forgetting but yeah, basically as I see it, the game isnt survivor sided in that way, its baby survivor sided, it does not reward you for playing the game a while, there is no knowledge and skill for a player to build towards because the game just tells you.

It also removes a lot of surprise which imo is sad because that could lead of fun tense situations but maybe that is just me.

So yeah, let me know, how do you feel about it.

Idc about the info. I know what's what. Im ok with it being there though because new survivors would get shrekt without it. The info does next to nothing for seasoned vets.

However as for Lullaby and Ruin... Those should go. Even baby survivors know what these perks are within a day.

    batax90 Member Posts: 879

I mostly play killer so for me its frustrating that they see all that info for free meanwhile the killer dont have any info unless an obssession is in the game but at this point this could be because of the killer and they need to remember which survivor had sprint burst or dead hard but if they are all claudette with the same costume good luck knowing which one it was. I wish survivor did not have any info on the killer perk and if they do have info they should make it fair and give the same amount of info for the killer

  • ZoneDymo
    ZoneDymo Member Posts: 1,946

I appreciate the reaction but as I said at the start, I dont wish this to become a Us vs Them thread.

Im merely asking for the views from the Survivor side.

The reasoning for me is that...well... there is less then normal to learn from a game if it just gives you everything and that makes it less rewarding and fun.

Its like, if they suddenly gave survivors 5 health states and allow them to be hooked 10 times before they are sacrificed, I mean yeah great...thanks...now "we" are very strong...infact we are unbeatable...fun? like suddenly there is no risk, nothing to gain, no challenge, so why play at all?

This is an extreme but its kinda the point of this thread, I hate how this game just straight up tells "me" everything, I just dont get it, if you are new you are gong to get your ass kicked, thats how games work, thats the same in EVERY GAME EVER, you have to LEARN about things and get good and that is part of the fun, that is what gaming is about.

In this case only because new player need them but most of the time they dont know which icon is what and for the vet its free info whitout any effort

    BananaBlooD95 Member Posts: 555

I totally agree with the OP. Not having any of those icons would make the game more stressful for survivor as they would only know what's happening from sound effect and looking at their team mate icons.

  • Ivaldi
    Ivaldi Member Posts: 977

    Is this post serious?

Mindbreaker? - It doesn't tell you when it stops.. If you're already exhausted, the exhaustion timer halts.. Otherwise the exhaustion effects last till a gen is 50% or 3 seconds after you get off.

Devour Hope? Only tells you its active AFTER its too late and survivors are exposed..

Noed? Only tells you AFTER the killer hits someone and and the totem procs.

Dead man's switch? What exactly does it tell you; it just blocks generators if you get off of them.

You want to say its "baby survivor sided"; yet killers get so much more info.. Hell a Doctor can literally have their legs broken but two seconds later *Static Blast* "OMG There's the survivor". Legions just have to M2 and then suddenly get map-wide tracking. Then there's BBQ and Chili aka "I don't want to actually look for a survivor; game show me where they are". Let's also not forget about Nurses Calling? Or how about the countless add-ons killers get that reveal survivors? All seeing Myers, Wraith, Plague?

  • Mat_Sella
    Mat_Sella Member Posts: 3,557

They have changed the Terror Radius perks to only show to the survivor if they are currently performing an action that would be affected by it (Coulrophobia, Unnerving Presence).

It only makes sense for Lullaby to not show anymore either.

The rest are honestly self-evident, you dont need an indicator or an icon to know what happened

  • andyollolloll
    andyollolloll Member Posts: 940

I agree that there is too much information for survivors.

They have done it for new survivors which is funny as when I played survivor at the start I was too busy looking at the map to read the messages.

  • ZoneDymo
    ZoneDymo Member Posts: 1,946

This post is very serious yes.

Mindbreaker does tell you when it stops, it has a little circle on the left of the screen to show you exactly when those 3 seconds are up and tells you when you are on the gen that mindbreaker is in play.

Devour Hope, when you or ANY other survivor is insta downed by it, BWAM ALERT ALERT DEVOUR HOPE IS IN PLAY, no need to pay attention if someone was insta downed or wonder what is going on, BWAM DEVOUR HOPE DEVOUR HOPE, ITS DEVOUR HOPE!!!

    NoeD: see Devour Hope.

DMS will tell you before you get off a gen that its active, aka, stay on your gen when its close to being finished.

And again, this is not an Us vs Them thread, dont you people read? THIS IS NOT ABOUT BEING A SALTY KILLER or somthing jeez, this is not that hard to understand, THIS IS ABOUT SURVIVORS feeling negatively about the game just straight up telling them everything AND NOT rewarding any experience with the game in that regard. An experienced player would pay attention and if they noticed a survivor getting one shot would know that its Devour Hope in play (Possible, thats the game).

    Come on man jeez.

Oh dang I forgot about Coulrophobia straight up telling you you are being affected by it.

No need to learn how long healing should take and notice for yourself, dont worry gamer, we got you, we will tell you when you should just move a little further.

Now its waiting for the survivors to get the info that Nurses Calling is in effect so they should stop healing and move a little further....

For survivor love it when the game tells me if a teammate has kindred or we'll make it. Or ace in the hole.

I don't like it when it tells me dam near everything in a killers loadout.

  • ZoneDymo
    ZoneDymo Member Posts: 1,946

Exactly, especially We'll Make It is useful to know, that makes sense the game would tell you this as this is not something you as a player through experience can know, same for if you are under the effect of Borrowed Time.

Cameradrie (while honestly needing to be reversed in function) also should tell other survivors that you have it when you are on the hook so they can make use of that.

Im now also thinking of "Make Your Choice" and how it tells you exactly how long that is still lasting... like is the shout you do when you unhook someone not enough for you to know you should play carefully/stealthy for a bit.... come on, this freaking handholding is just nonsense.

  • Seltas0208
    Seltas0208 Member Posts: 1,056

I know. But for exposed perks it kinda makes sense for them to know how long they're exposed for....unless it's Michael t3. In that case the map wide tune should be enough to know "haha I'm exposed oh god oh heck"

  • ZoneDymo
    ZoneDymo Member Posts: 1,946

But they do know, 1 minute at max so play carefully for a minute and you are golden. Keep an eye on where the killer is, work on a gen but leave early if you lost track of the killer.

  • FearedbytheGods
    FearedbytheGods Member Posts: 476

Can we talk about the killer babying? All the insta find, one shot mechanics killers have.

'It also removes a lot of skill which imo is sad because that could lead of fun tense situations but maybe that is just me'.

  • PigMainClaudette
    PigMainClaudette Member Posts: 3,842

Survivor is literally about information and what you do with it. That's just how their game rolls.

And to answer your question, yes. Yes I do like how much information I'm getting in game.

  • ZoneDymo
    ZoneDymo Member Posts: 1,946

no we can not, and if you would/could read you would know this.

The information that a survivor suddenly, after 3 unhooks gets one shot is not enough for you I guess. Or that you scream when you unhook someone. Or that you suddenly cant sprint burst away when a killer comes to chase you off a gen.

I mean that is what this thread is about, asking if others like me are annoyed by the patronising/baby handholding the game does for survivors these days, but considering there are plenty players that run the DS/BT/Adren/Exhaustion perk combo I guess I am the odd one in this wanting a game to ask something of me and reward experience/knowledge.

  • PigMainClaudette
    PigMainClaudette Member Posts: 3,842

Devour Hope only shows after the 3rd token and when someone IS HIT. Same with NoED, but I like but on DH. Exposed is such a powerful effect that Survivors kinda need to know about it. I hate hearing about this supposed meta build, partly because I don't run it, instead preferring to run perks like Self-Care, Botany Knowledge and Spine Chill within some of my builds.

  • Akhaten
    Akhaten Member Posts: 125

I agree with you that the game gives wayyyy too much info to survivors. As a former player (mostly killer) i found no reason to still play the game as killer role was too stressful and on the other side survivor was just plain dull, giving no fun either way.

You mentioned noed and devour, that they give a notification when they are in play, yes they should notify the survivors that they are in play, but be more subtle: instead of showing the cursed + exposed status effect (not to mention which hex), it should stick to a terrifying scream of the survivor model. You can figure it out yourself why did the model scream.

  • FearedbytheGods
    FearedbytheGods Member Posts: 476

Just admit you have a bias then.

Because the way you've framed this reminds me of all those 'reports' that talk about assault on campus' that turned out to be severely misleading, or 'self-fulfilling prophecy' if you will.

  • Deadeye
    Deadeye Member Posts: 3,627

    Attention! Need! XD

You ask for a civil discussion from survivor side but present your comments also pretty biased, talking about baby survivors and throw in

    kinds of unrelated things

    like

Now its waiting for the survivors to get the info that Nurses Calling is in effect

    Just saying

I think the information you get is in many cases rather QOL than baby carrying. It is more about the mass of information you get, and not that one is not able to expect something from a specific occurrence in the game. There are a few things we could talk about like when Lullaby should be first shown, but for other things like Exposed status effect, it also creates tension and atmosphere, which I love in the game rather than getting downed and you ask yourself for what freakin reason.

a bias.... dude... im ASKING SURVIVORS if they are annoyed by the amount of info SURVIVORS get....seriously reading comprehension gawd damn it man.

THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH KILLERS OR THEIR VIEWS, you want to talk about how killers get too much info and how killers are annoyed by that fact, FINE, make a new topic, this is about survivors FOR survivors.

If I have not made myself clear at this point then its beyond hope, honestly man, I AM ANNOYED AS A SURVIVOR THAT THE GAME TREATS ME LIKE A FFING BABY AND JUST FEELS THE NEED TO TELL ME EVERYTHING LIKE I DONT UNDERSTAND BY NOW HOW THE GAME WORKS.

    jeez....

Of course I have a bias, I dont like the way this game has turned out or is turning out, it gives more and more info that as a survivor I just find rediculous to have and completely ruins any idea of surprise or rewards any serious player for their experience. The question is how other fellow plays feel about this, maybe Im the odd one out for wanting not be treated like a baby. But again, Im disgusted by meta build survivors so yeah I guess I am the weirdo....

Anyway, as a killer for example, its pretty fun when survivors are the type that save at the last pixel and then run Monstrous Shrine and they are too late. As a survivor If I took that risk and then found out "oh snap, monstrous shrine?!!?!" that would be/is great, but with todays direction im pretty sure its just a matter of time before survivors simple get the notifaction this is in play so they will just know to save a bit earlier regardless of game knowledge/experience.

Blood Warden is one of the few bastions of surprise left and you see survivors keeping it in mind when playing, it separates those that are new from those with experience and its fun to learn from or to get surpised by.

Again with the way this game is going, it seems just a matter of time before that is also taken away and will just tell survivors as soon as the door is opened that Blood Warden can be proc'd.

  • FearedbytheGods
    FearedbytheGods Member Posts: 476

Let me explain, because you clearly don't get it.

Your questions are loaded with a particular slant of information, that we have to ASSUME to be true to even begin the conversation with this thread.

What makes it that this info is too much?

If that's true doesn't correlate to the increases for killers that I mentioned?

If we assume that it is too much for survivors, can we also assume that we scale back on killers too?

I think the problem here is that my reading comprehension is too advanced for you.

  • ZoneDymo
    ZoneDymo Member Posts: 1,946

Ok so I hit a snare by insulting your intelligence and now we are here, Im not going to go into it with your further because you still dont get it and at this point you will just refuse to do so as you are insulted, its no longer about the subject matter so of no value.

Killers dont factor into this discussion, I cant make it more clear, so if that is too much for you then so be it.

  • Clevite
    Clevite Member Posts: 4,335

You say you don't want a us vs them. But then call it baby survivor sided? Seems like you already created that atmosphere in your post.

    Am I reading it wrong?

  • ZoneDymo
    ZoneDymo Member Posts: 1,946

You are, or maybe Im not clear, Us vs Them meaning Survivors vs Killers or vice versa.

This is about how survivors view this handholding the game does these days for survivors, aka the game not being survivor sided but baby survivor sided.

Which through examples in my comments in this thread so far hopefully made clear what I mean and why it annoys me.

  • Johnny_XMan
    Johnny_XMan Member Posts: 6,434

I don’t see how removing these icons would make things more “tense”.

It’s merely an indicator not even a warning because by that point you can already figure out what it is.

This game has lost its “surprise” factor because of so many perks that have been introduced on each side. So for me the “tense” “exciting” parts are the mind-game able parts.

  • ThisGuuy83
    ThisGuuy83 Member Posts: 1,303

Just imagine if killers got the same treatment. I hit you, it tells me your running DH. I down you, it tells me your running unbreakable. I hook you, it tells me your running DS. The fifth gen pops, and tells me your running adren. See how fair that would be? But we can't have that, now can we...

  • Clevite
    Clevite Member Posts: 4,335

Guess I don't mind it because it always just seemed to be part of the game.

Plus there are new players joining and this info is helpful for them I guess. No big deal to me.

You are missing the point. All the information you are talking about come in the form of perks. Perks the killer needs to equip before he can access the information.

The OP is talking about all the information survivors get, for free, usually about the killers load out. There is a huge difference.

As a killer, it's frustrating wanting to run lullaby but knowing as soon as they touch a generator they know its there. No surprise there. That's what OP is saying. Not tracking perks, that by the way both sides have

  • Splinterverse
    Splinterverse Member Posts: 445

There is not too much information. In fact, they need to add more to compensate solo survivors vs. SWF.

We don't have weapons to injure the killer. Information is our weapon.

We have plenty of BS stealth killers we have to deal with so they can still surprise us plenty. A tier 1 Myers can surprise you. Just get over it.

  • MegaWaffle
    MegaWaffle Member Posts: 4,172

Hate having my hand held the whole time. I don't want my solo survivor to be like SWF, it ruins what little "horror/fear" I ever had when I know what the killer is running better than the killer themselves.

  • ZoneDymo
    ZoneDymo Member Posts: 1,946

If someone goes down in 1 shot after 3 unhooks, that would be the same info for SWF and Solo, just a matter of paying attention.

Mindbreaker again, if it does not show then still SWF and Solo have the same information.

  • iBetClaudette

I'm okay with the info. I've been playing for 3 years and I rarely use that info anyways. Definitely think it's needed for new players though. They'd be lost without it

  • finitethrills
    finitethrills Member Posts: 617

This is false equivalence. Everyone gets aura perks. This is about direct warning for every status effect. A true equivalent would be if the killer got a little timer under any survivor who was unhooked while having DS, counting down the the time to when it's safe for killer to pick them up. A currently equivalent is the deathslinger getting a bar under the redeemer... In the old days, they would've had to go off the sound alone.

  • OrangeJack
    OrangeJack Member Posts: 464

I agree, don't know why people are complaining here. It wouldn't change the game radically for anyone who's familiar with killer's hex perks and would add a little tension.

Don't know how this devolved into killer vs survivor discussion.

  • Ivaldi
    Ivaldi Member Posts: 977

You already have that equivalent with the amount of info the game gives you with player aura's.

  • FKreuger1
    FKreuger1 Member Posts: 43

I agree, more so with hex perks, I preferred the game when it didnt tell you what was happening, you just kind of stumbled across it.

Although I will say I enjoy the jumpier side to this game, I'm not interested in becoming the best, I just like the 'HOLY CRAP' parts of the game that it does so well! It does feel like all the information does take that away a little bit.

Again....this is NOT about "us vs them", this not about killers.

Yes and in warframe new players are nothing without certain perks, should we then just give them those?

My point is, you are suppose to get your ass kicked most of the time as a new player, you dont know YET how the game works just like every game, thats what a newby is, and when the play the game more and more they leanr how ti works.

This handholding is just rediculous imo and robs the players from the joy that comes from experience.

  • gatsby
    gatsby Member Posts: 2,533

Some things are obvious but there's plenty of counterplay for Killers that you learn over time.

(i.e. the delay between the sound cue and throw on Huntress, looking back for reload of Deathslinger, knowing the pathing of Oni dash or Demo shred so you can avoid it. counting so you know when Clown is out of bottles, the delay on Doctor shock etc.)

The game doesn't tell you everything. Not by a long shot

  • xenotimebong
    xenotimebong Member Posts: 2,803

No it doesn’t bother me. I already know that when someone goes down in one hit in end game that the killer has NOED, I don’t need to be notified... but I did when I first started playing. Imagine being on your, say, fifth ever match of this game, being used to being hit twice before you’re downed, and then getting insta downed by NOED seemingly out of nowhere. The devs would be inundated by mistaken reports of cheaters, lmao. Because that’s why this information exists: to let new players know that something is messing with the game mechanics, some rules of the trial have changed and they need to beware. Otherwise they just think the game is buggy or the killer is cheating when the rules change midway.

You’ve said yourself that most of the information the game gives you can be puzzled out anyway. You know if you’re under the effects of Remember Me because the door takes longer to open, you don’t need the little perk icon. *But new players find it helpful*, and it really doesn’t harm the experience for most experienced survivor players so I don’t see the problem. None of the game mechanics surprise you after so many hours in the game.

I mean, what do you want? No HUD or notifications of any kind for survivors? The gap between solo and SWF would widen even more, new players would find the game way too confusing and leave (a lot of them already do even with this so called hand holding), and veteran players would just shrug and continue on because they know the game like the back of their hand already. It wouldn’t add any tension or mystery to the game, just confusion for newbies. And SWF would still know your full perk load out a minute into the game.

The only one I can agree is unnecessary is Lullaby. It should only notify the survivors when it has at least one token, imo. Ruin is fine because you can just see the generator spark when you let go of it anyway.
