Don't let Rank 1s play with anything but Red Ranks
Rank 1 players simply take over purple/green games when they're matched in them. I honestly think that hitting Rank 1 should lock your matchmaking to Red Rank only games, sure their queue times might suck but at least they're not ruining games for everyone else.

I think they are careless with match making simply because of queue times. Lobbies would take way too long if they did this, though I do agree with you how gameplay goes when this happens between red and green ranks. They should fix their matchmaking first. It's too easy for survivors to get to red ranks. But you could also argue survivor role is just simply too easy and that it isn't even the fault of matchmaking.
I agree something needs to be addressed, but I dont think this would be beneficial.

Red ranks aren't supposed to be matched with green ranks, period. The fact that they currently are is not intended, it's an acknowledged bug in the matchmaking system.
It seems likely to me that the devs won't be fixing this bug because the current system will soon be rendered obsolete anyway with the introduction of the new one, so it makes more sense to funnel resources into developing the new system than fixing the old one. That's what I would do in their position, anyway.

As Fibjean has already pointed out, they aren't doing anything with the old system until the new system is implemented.
Now as far as your "solution". What stops red rank caliber players on either side to not just depip as needed to stay around Rank 5 so they can continue to get matches quicker? If going to red ranks means an eternity in the queue lobby, people will just avoid red ranks, it's not hard to depip. killers can just let the gen rush happen, survivors can just get themselves killed quickly and easily. It wouldn't solve any of the problems you are trying to fix.

It’s weird how much people defend bhvr, no other game would get away with a MM system being this broken. oh well, anything for a special tag I suppose
as to OP, we don’t want to be matched with greens lol, it’s this games horrid MM system and I have serious doubts the MMR system will be better
but thing is, what if I play with friends, am I now locked out of that option? can’t just do that

Rank 1s are supposed to be confined to the rank range of 1-6/7, aren't they? I can't remember if the intended "acceptable" range was +/- 6 or 7 ranks. So assuming matchmaking works as intended they're already actually supposed to only be matched with red and the "top" of purple ranks.
But of course, matchmaking gets drunk a lot.

I must have missed the part in my own comment where I said that it was good or justified that the current system is so broken. Unless you're talking about the part where I said that it doesn't make a lot of sense to waste time fixing something you're about to trash anyway, in which case I'd love to hear your counter-proposal as to what you think ought to be done instead.

Yep. The source of the problem is the lack of high rank killers. There's not enough necessary for how many high rank survivors there are. So the game will open a survivor's queue lobby to killers beyond the +/-6 range after a period of time has passed.

I know the feeling. I dont even bother trying to pip up. I just grabbed the only screenshots of killer matches on my phone I had which are all ironically showing bad matchmaking.

I thought it goes off what ever rank the highest rank survivor is and if there isn’t a killer that matches that rank then it goes 6 ranks above or below. So if rank 4 is the highest survivor rank in the lobby then anything below or anything up to rank 10 is normal. But yes as others have said, matchmaking is broken.

considering how meaningless rank is, ESPECIALLY on the survivor side, it really should nto be viewed as a problem.
At this point its so completely meaningless we should just do away with rank and match everyone with everyone.

All but one of those pictures is matchmaking working as intended (assuming that yellow rank and that white rank were in a SWF) that matchmaking isn't bad at all.

Actually it is.
Your talking about a killer who's leaving green ranks and progressing to purple vs people leaving purple progressing to red. The difference in knowledge about the game is significantly different. If I was a new player and the survivors were too the results would of been completely different.
While the pipping system is broken. It shows some level of skill and knowledge about the game.
The matchmaking changes were a +6/-6 rank difference then widens. SWF also takes the rank of the highest survivor and finds a suitble candidate. Majority of these are from before those changes if I remember correctly. I haven't really played killer in awhile or taken screenshots since I've been playing with friends.

They're supposed to only face red ranks.
However, the matchmaking system, emblem system, and apparently connection to host are all #########, so it's either rainbow matches or 25 minute waits for perfect matches.
Theyre "working on" a new mmr algorithm to supposedly replace rank and fix all this, but well see....

And 85% of the redranks arent supposed to be redranks. But thats gonna be ignored as always. Even green rank kilelr have litereally no problem to kill redrank survivors for this reason. But of course thats gonna be ignored too.

just got into a game where i loaded with 3 rank 16-20 survivors and a rank 10 killer. how does this add up plz? i’m rank 1.
i thought this matchmaking business was fixed but it still isn’t, wow lol

That's because there a lot, lot, looooot more red rank survivors than red rank killers. The lack of red and purple rank killers is the main source of our current MM problems.

Agree,but when there aren't enough players to go around,and they want to keep queue times down...we get stuck with this. It's really not fun as a lower rank killer,in my experience,and from what I'm hearing. I've 4k'd a team of reds on a few occasion...but literally I go into every match knowing SOMEONE is going to escape,and probably all of them. Especially when you see a bunch of black wards. I see a lot of SWF bringing Rainbow Maps,keys, flashlights. That's a crappy combo, especially when you pair it with skilled players and headsets.
