Hello,

just wanted to check what everyone (in this Forum) is thinking: Do you prefer the Dedicated Servers (currently enabled on PC, Switch and PS4) or Peer-to-Peer, meaning that the Killer is the Host?

I have included Options for every Platform which has/had Dedicated Servers AND Peer-to-Peer. If you play on multiple Platforms, just choose the one you are using the most.

If you want to differ between Killer and Survivor, please use your Post for this. Same if you want to mention your Region.

So, lets see how the community is feeling! :)

    No issues so far.

It's actually always been good, except i had some of the weirdest matches as Survivor during P2P.

    Definitely prefer DS right now.

People's experiences vary widely, but personally I live in the same city as a server, so I have a consistent ping of about 30, which is far better than I ever got on peer-to-peer.

For the brief period it was there it worked out fine for me.

The servers are far worse in any aspect.

At least with p2p, I can only get screwed over as Survivor. Now I get screwed over as Survivor and Killer.

I used to be able to run the game at Ultra graphics with next to no trouble. Shortly after Dedicated Servers came out, I had to drop to Medium graphics to walk five feet, and even then, the start of the match forces me to stand around for up to a minute while I wait for the game to stop playing lag simulator.

While that could be my graphics card failing (at almost the exact same time, which just seems off, and only during a match), I know what isn't. Getting hit from half a mile away through a window or on the other side of a pallet. And then there are the times where I just inexplicably teleport a few feet from where I wanted to go. In the wrong direction.

Needless to say, I have not had good experience with Dedicated Servers.

I, by far, like dedicated better. No longer do I regularly have to decide if the 300+ ping I used to often get was worth it. Now the ping is usually around 100 or so and even if I do get the occasional lag game and the stuff associated with it, it's a lot less than it used to be.

I never encountered hackers until Dedicated Servers.

And lag was never an issue for me until Dedicated Servers.

If my ping was bad I just left the lobby or accepted I'd see some crazy nonsense, now it seems like it's just a roll of the dice regardless of my ping (I've teleported across the map as Myers once and terrified a Quentin searching a chest - 62 ms).

Dedicated Servers have only been a bad thing in my experience.

From my understanding they don't prevent lag switching, they just make it possible for both Killers and Survivors to lagswitch now.

My ping seems to have gotten better since the release of Dedicated Servers, but the hitboxes are definitely worse most of the time.

Dedicated Servers also prevent you from getting that roll-back when the Killer has a bad connection and partially prevent Killers from lagswitching.

On dedicated servers, if the killer dodges, the lobby isnt closed for the survivors so they dont need to get to queue again. This for itself is enough to make dedicated a much better option.

Dedicated servers are an improvement, even though they aren't perfect. Not having to deal with lag switching is nice, although Killer hit priority when there is server lag still bites. And it's nice to be able to stay as a squad after each match vs. having to reinvite over and over. It was a positive step.

Anybody who remembers P2P from 2017 or earlier remembers how garbage laggy it could get if your host had garbage internet, even after the system was optimized to be better it could still be unreliable and it would suck.

As killer you wouldn't feel it, but you would see it sometimes, people just standing stock still or not vaulting a window quickly in time. Sure, I'm human and I'll take the ez w when I can, but at the end of the day it's cheap and not skillful gameplay.

Ever since the switch to Dedicated servers, it hasn't been the easiest road and some of the more technical things have fallen short like hitboxes and ranged hitboxes, but the one thing I am very glad about is that it has eventually become buttery smooth on both sides and I have never had to suffer from lag ever again. Dedicated servers are only ever going to be improved upon so I can't wait to see them be even better in the future

Now, "like" is not the best term for my opinion. I appreciate the dedicated servers to prevent lag-switching, but most of the lag I end up seeing due to dedicated servers typically benefits the other party or teleports the survivor some distance away after I've hit or nearly hit him/her.

My biggest qualm with dedicated servers has happened most recently, when the "aim dressing" combines with latency to cut my swings short and prevent me from connecting with a survivor. I've had it happen at most around 5 times per match, but it happens on a low level quite frequently. Additionally, the bug with Hillbilly where he is stunned but a part of the game doesn't recognize that and continues to play the chainsaw rev noise is a low-level annoyance. Regarding hitboxes and hitdetection, I've been more frustrated than ever in chases because I frequently get downed when it doesn't look like the weapon connected with anything at all. It's an issue of losing a health state before the visuals agree (or in many cases, never agree). The visuals should always come first and be consistent with the rest of the game. Visually pulling the survivor and killer closer together after successful hits doesn't really work, especially because most of these hit complaints arise near pallets and windows. This "trick" also makes survivors teleport backwards at times, giving the sense to players that it was the teleport that caused the hit while it was actually the hit that caused the teleport.

Hmm. Mile wide hit boxes or hacking?

Although 'Exhausted BTW' annoying, at least my games are more consistent than on P2P

I didn't see a difference AT ALL. I didn't experience any issue like some people are saying, but I never had issues with peer to peer. If dedicated servers are suposed to be better then I like them more, but honestly there is no difference for me.

I think ping and lag are overall better. But it did not fix those problems as much as I thought it would. I am still occasionally rubber banding around the map. I also find that killers with projectiles seem to be able to break the law of physics and hit you through rocks and walls and steel. Before the explanation was lag between me and the killer, well what is it now?

after dedicated servers, the hitbox took a turn for the worst what's the point in dedicated servers if I am not connecting to my location

The farther away your data center is from where your users are located, the higher the latency you're likely to have. so I say fix this easy problem and more people will be happy

I'm sorry, but the killer is host and has really bad wifi, I want nothing to do with that

It's a lot more consistent with dedicated servers.
