Why struggle until just before rescue?

This has NOT been an isolated incident.

Someone goes on the hook. I run across the map to rescue them. They struggle the whole time. It’s a safe rescue because the killer is attacking/carrying someone else. They have plenty of time left on the hook, but then they let go when I’m 5 steps from them.

It’s been happening with surprising regularity. What gives?!

People don't wanna play the game anymore so they just let go.

I've had many people do that on me. I'll be in front of them about to unhook and suicide. Or, I'll have survivors suicide because I'm hiding near the hook as the killer is still close by and they then complain I didn't unhook instantly. The only time I'll unhook if a killer is close is if I have BT, otherwise, no risking it! But, it just seems to be a mentality of many survivors these days.

Who knows? Context is always important.

Most of the time suiciding right before rescue is intended as a middle finger to the team/the rescuer for something or other. Teammate can take offense at anything, although honestly some of the things you see the other survivors doing while you're on the hook can definitely be enough to justify that kind of BM.

Sometimes it's a mistake, and they miss the button once

other times it's because they just have to go do something and that's the fastest way to get out of the game

and the last group is just them being a t o x i c survivor

I would assume someone would do that because he hates his teammates. You spent all that time traveling across the map to pull him off the hook. He lets go and you have to go all the way across the map again. Good way to make teammates you don't like lose. That's for sure.

They’re mad at you/the team about something and trying to give you the finger. Either that or they just missed a button. But every time this has happened to me the survivor has stuck around to ######### in the chat afterwards so it’s quite possible they’re salty about something.

I'm gonna guess that at least some of these incidents have to do with the struggling mechanic. It's quite easy to accidentally ######### because you didn't button mash fast enough, or even because of lag. The struggle mechanic is absolutely horrendous.

Well, it happend to me today while i was on the hook, despite the fact i use a macro in my keyboard driver to struggle for me. Still went out. Happens.

Usually it's "fu*k you" message for letting them being hanged for so long. The sad thing is only rescuer sees that message - the person who tried to save them unlike rest of the team.

This is the most likely, they want to die but will take as many struggle BP as possible.

Sometimes they don’t feel you came “soon enough,” so they punish you by taking away your unhook points/WGLF stacks.

Sometimes they feeL like the game is a lost cause and don’t wanna waste anymore time this is similar to first comment I made

Usually it’s an accident. If you’re slightly off while struggling, you die. It’s happened to me before.

Yeah if it the second hook, sometimes you can mess up on that struggle button. For you have to keep on pressing the key over and over again. If you are not fast enough, dead. Misclick dead. Lag, dead. So if it the second hook. Yeah it hard to tell what happen there. Did they misclick or did they mean something else. Due to lack of knowledge it really hard to say. So i would give the person the benefit of the doubt and go yeah, they just misclicked or something.

    1. They don't want to play anymore for whatever reasons
    2. Maybe they had to leave, and didn't want to DC
    3. Finger slipped, it happens on occasion, or just not hitting it fast enough or hitting to fast according to the game, it doesn't always register, game is still fairly buggy ya know
    4. Lag/Server issues, I've had the game straight up kill me before on hook when struggling at varying amounts of struggle time left

There are multiple reasons that should always be taken into account

Lag is the biggest reason this mechanic should be removed
