    Basically

    He competed against people in a competition and won according to the rules laid out, but then they changed the rules at the last minute and he "lost"

    So he was technically robbed

    Iirc there was a tourney where they had a rule whoever gets to the hatch first wins (this was pre EGC and Hatch Closing)


    Marth killed the last person and blinked onto the hatch, then the last survivor ran up and jumped in when it opened anyways after he went for the hits , and the refs gave it to the survivor, costing Marth the tournement. The refs claimed the Survivor got it because they'd been there already, even though they had not been at the hatch until after Marth blinked on top of it, and people aparently say the same situation has happened before and they gave it to the killer.


    This is all off memory or reading about it ofc

    Yes. That hatch standoff wasnt pointed out clear but they had a rematch and they got destroyed fair and square afterwards.

    So people shouldnt remember Marth as if being robbed but rather destroyed.
