Tell me your secret veteran players

Their steam profiles checked - all 4 swf. I barely just instal game (50hours played). I read some post about new matchmaking cooming but i still wonder how new matchmaking will fix lack of killers. There will be always too many skilled survivals vs low number of skilled killers. So no matter what devs bring on table, this situation will happen again right? I wanna ask veteran killers how where you find motivation to play next match when you see games are so unfair? Thank you for your answers. I like a game so far, but will feel free to move to another one, if matchmaking will be not fixed....

i'm rank 4 survivor and killer so i'm not totally sure about this but imo it's the devs fault i don't see how it's veterans' faults they're getting put into matches like this. The ranking system is just screwed up and always has been. The thing that annoys me most about it is there's no point. no reward longer queue times and you just get toxic #########

Sure it is not players mistake how they will be matched. I mean i was just expecting, DBD have some filter or something, what will just not let red 1 rank go vs 12 green. I have experience with Leage of legends and CS:GO. In this games cant DIAMOND player be matched vs SILVER no matter how long they wait in queue because these matches will be so one sided that people will just insta stop play game. I dont understand why there isnt something like this here.

This is pretty much the same advice I would give. It's okay to be competitive, but when a game gets to the point of making you angry, it sort of defeats the purpose of playing. Be competitive, but remember it is a game, you will lose some, you will win some and you'll learn new tricks every game. And it's okay to put the controller down once in a while.

It gets tougher and tougher everyday. I've pretty much switched sides these days. Killer isn't much for me. I feel like when I look on profiles there's 5,000 hour played survivors in every lobby. I'd suggest going over to the dark side. But if you put the time in it'll get better and better.

I have absolutely no problem as you say: win some - lose some when teams balanced and match is fair. But i cant get over it,already feel pis**d from start of the game by terrible matchmaking.

This new update is a huge hope in bringing lost killers back.

I'll be playing a lot more as well. The gen rush won't be as bad, and the map sizes are decreased. We'll also be seeing a variety of different killers as well, not just the usually 4 or 5.

I'm with you dude. I don't think anyone is really happy with matchmaking at its current state.

Yes bro, i feel paranoid by checking people steam profiles to avoid unfair match. All i ask is balanced game and fun for everybody.

Don't play the game for winning. Play it for fun. You lose? Oh well, go get 'em in the next match.

Don't be afraid to make risks or mistakes and go off track in a chase, if it works, well done! If it fails, well you've learned!

Unless you're going for achievements, rank doesn't really matter. Who cares if the Entity is pleased. As Survivor you can get more points dying instead of escaping.

Treat each game like a sandbox. If you wanna mess around with survivors, mess around. If you wanna kill them all, then do your best to make sure they die.

Most people want to play the way it's set up, but you don't really have to. Once you free yourself from the rules, the games become more fun. When they become more fun, you learn and pick up skills passively. When you decide later okay time to kill, you have everything you learned passively.

The biggest tip I can give is get comfortable with both sides. Play survivor if you feel you're getting rolled as killer and vice versa. Just level up one survivor to the point you feel comfortable (all the perks you need) and stick to them for a while. It seriously helps to see the other view when it comes to this game.

  • Crazewtboy
    Crazewtboy Member Posts: 1,259

This is an amazing tip! Playing both sides helps a lot. You get to see and learn how the other side reacts to different things and you can use that knowledge to counteract what they do. If you patrol gens as killer but can't seem to find anyone, but as survivor you notice someone hiding somewhere, check that spot next time you play killer and you might just catch someone with their pants down

Matchmaking wasn't always as bad as what you see now.

My motivation lies in a number of things.

Wraith, Devour Hope, catching them off guard, making comebacks, zooming across the map, pulling off stealth, killing...

I like spreading the damage, i prefer to get one down ASAP, hook them, and go for someone else ASAP.

It helps that people often suspect i must be camping since i'm Wraith.

    I watch Otzdarva and Ayrun.

Got survivor rank 1 after around 6 or 7 months. Then I quitted being survivor main after one year and a half I got rank 1 killer.

No I'm not killer main, I just don't main any role and tonight I left the game woth rank 1 in both roles. 1390 hours, pc.

The best advice I can give is try not to get real mad at clearly toxic players. The next thing Id suggest is to get good with one character first. Use them as their main and get to know them. My first killer was Huntress. I became decent with hatchets and good with the movement speed. Then try other killers (and try to get all teachable perks, but BBQ is the best one to get first) and find the one you like best. My first killer is not my main killer.

One thing I will say is to just have fun with what you are given. Rank doesn't matter, you don't even get achievements for it on console. Just have fun. Try new things.

Just an advice there are no red rank killers that much due to ruin being ruined. Matchmaking put them in the next available match and it might of count for that rank 20.

Don't take it personally when you lose.

If a survivor is playing toxic, ignore them and go to someone else.

Learn when to break off chases for someone else.

Figure out your preferred killers pros and cons on top of the optimal perk build for you. Remember what works for someone else may not work for you.

Treat every game like a learning experience and you'll gradually get better.

I'm in red ranks and have hung out here for a bit. You will win some, you will lose some. That's just the nature of the beast but don't treat a loss or string of losses as a world ending event

  • The_Bootie_Gorgon

    Know when to break chases

    Don't respect pallets

The earlier you can get rid of the shack pallet the better

try to chase survivors into tiles so they don't get the fast vault

don't go after clicky clicky, more than likey they are baiting you

try to find the weakest link

learn when to slug vs when to hook

decide which generators are not worth it

don't let your emotions make bad decisions

    experiment with different builds/killers

there are two types of basic attacks, get a feel for when to use each one

try to herd the survivor in a chase to spots that are better for you

and like others have said, you will not win 100% of the games you play, just take each mach as a learning experience on your tactics, perk builds, and different killers

I don't play killer often but I did at one point so I'm pretty good at killer. My rank dips and I play against bad survivors. I don't try hard unless they are. Always let the 4th escape bc I have nothing to prove with this crummy mmr system. And the other end of survivors are just beating you to death, sorry there are just too many variables to fix what you're looking for.

    I make 4k in 8 of 10 games (in rank 1 btw)

Just keep learning, dont use noed and find ur favorite killer and have fun with him or her.

And when they are tryhards, be tryhard too (or take morii XD)

Eh.. just follow your heart. If you don't want to play, then don't. This is a video game, not a job, so you're free to leave at any time.

Play whatever you want to play. You don't have to stick to this game only.

I would also suggest if you're new to playing killer, play perkless/or with their unique perks to get a better idea of their weaknesses/strengths.

I don’t know why anyone isn’t actually trying to help you, so please allow me. I’ve been around the block a few times, and I could give you a few tips to become a really strong player.

1st thing first, you need to set yourself up for success. You’re going to want to either play Hillbilly, LF, or Huntress with iri hatchets. bring NOED as a part of every build, and if playing LF or Billy, bring agitation and iron grasp.

next what you‘ll want to do is when you enter a lobby, decide your man. This is going to be the person you are going to want to get rid of at all cost, usually one of the black ones cuz they’re hard to see.

next, when the trial starts, you’re probably thinking kill the black ones like I told you, right? Well, not necessarily, you just find the first survivor and down them, then hook them in the basement if you can make it, if not it’s fine, because all you’ll be doing for the next 100 seconds or so is standing in front of the hook, making sure no one even try’s to get your survivor off that hook. After waiting that person’s death, now it’s time to look for the black ones, as they are usually the ones that will try to skate by at the end and you’ll want the ending to be as easy as possible.

If you’ve gotten away with waiting insidious on the last down, you may not be able to use it again, so it’s important that the second hook is placed in such a way that you can possibly go between and protect 3 gems, as by the time you wait his death timer out, most of the gens could be complete. Nevertheless, if it comes between defending gens and defending the hooked, always defend the hook.

at this point it should be two dead. As well as you may have played at this point, you may find at this point that most of all the gens are now complete. This is great because as there’s only two survivors, you’re very likely to find one by a gate at some point, and when you hit them they won’t know what to expect. And just like that, you’ve won the game! It’s not that hard, honestly, but watch out for crybabies who aren’t good enough to go against this, as they’ll make it your problem.

Once I accepted that I sucked as killer I started doing the following:

Played with no perks and no addons

Picked a killer I wanted to learn

Start each game fresh and untilted by the last one.

Create a process of pressure gen, chase, down, pressure gen / unhook. Repeat. Don’t get emotional. Just make it a process. If you lose oh well. Time to try again next game. Don’t stay in end game. Don’t chat. Click continue. And queue up.

once you do this over and over you’ll start to win more and more games. Before you know it you’ll start winning against red ranks.

most red rank survivors are pretty boosted and bad. Most SWFs play really stupidly once you hook someone. Take advantage of it.

Dont play with “honor.” If they’re around the hook waiting for you to leave, make them pay for it by staying near the hook and trying to down them.

If they want to rush the unhook with BT wait it out. You can grab them while they try to unhook.

Know when to drop someone you’re carrying to down someone else. Also know when they might have DS or their wiggle bar has reset.

Know how to pick up survivors without getting hit with a flashlight.

Let them blind you at pallets. It wastes their time and you can still hear them.

Most importantly, don’t get upset. Just move on and do it again.

I just play the game, and the killer role, because I like it. I also dislike it, because there gets to a point where your skill is irrelevant. To get to and stay at red ranks, you have to always be in a chase (except for Hag and Trapper), tunnel and slug if necessary, and use strong killers and add-ons. Otherwise, you just get bullied. I know there's some godlike killers out there that say "I 4k all the time easy without having to do all that stuff". I won't believe them.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that I don’t have too much of a problem With swf as a rank 1 killer. You would be surprised the amount of swfs that are garbage at looping individually and easy to snowball off of. I would say 80-90 percent of my games are relatively winnable using most killers, obviously some exceptions regarding maps and certain chance factors. The other 10 percent of matches are against the good survivors or swfs who are strong and confident with their looping as well as decently fast on gens, like the ones you seemed to have vsed although I could be wrong. Personally I have a blast with these matches. As long as I’m playing a decently strong killer, I really enjoy the challenge of having to play perfectly well and watching how they try to outplay me, teaches you a lot about killer, and when you do manage to beat the team it is an amazing feeling to know that you outplayed them. Obviously some of these games you aren’t going to win but what would a game be if you could win every game? Some tips however that I would definitely recommend to start off with.

1: Rotation. If you can’t catch, injure or get a good pallet out of a survivor in 15-30 seconds, leave the chase. Go rotate to other survivors who are on gens using perks such as discordance and corrupt intervention. Also if a survivor is running away from a group of generators or to an extremely safe place, don’t take the chase in the first place. You would be surprised the amount of killers I see chase someone who’s running away from their three gen situation.

2: Only tunnel if you can secure a kill: More often than not tunnelling and camping is just going to hinder you especially against good and coordinated survivors. Rotating away from hooked survivors and onto survivors doing gens puts more pressure on the team to get off of the gens as either the killer is on them or they need to rotate for the hook save. However if you can secure a kill on someone and you need it, sometimes you’ve just gotta go for it.

3: Use good builds: A fair few killers use builds that either rely on hexes or just have no effectiveness against decent teams. A good example is the good old sloppy, nurses and thana build. This build may be extremely strong against most average survivors, however good survivors won’t and don’t need to heal, rendering your build practically useless apart from the small effects which Thana may have.

4: Mindgame: Every opportunity you have to, mind game mind game mind game. Taking the opportunity to get a down is far better than taking the stun and pallet. Remember at the same time if you can’t mind game something, don’t waste your energy on it.

5: Don’t give up: Despite this it’s important to remember that sometimes you just can’t win a match due to certain map rng or too many gens going at once. However there’s never nothing you can learn from the game. Sometimes getting beaten up by a few swfs can do wonders for your killer skills and give you a better chance at taking them down later on.

At the end of the day it does seem like matchmaking is the biggest cause of many of these unbalanced matches and that’s something I definitely don’t agree with, and considering the way dbd works I would probably recommend just trying to learn as much as you can from these games as it’s not going to change anytime soon.

I'm rank 7 seven right now. The highest rank I've been so far with a little over a year of playing experience. So I wouldn't consider myself veteran at all, but I do play better than my boyfriend. Lol... I imagine the only real problem with the rank matching would be a 1-4 rank killer against 13 and up rank survivors. It has happened but not often. I don't mind who I'm ranked with ever bc I try to learn from each game. I pay attention to other survivors and see if they're at least as altruistic as I am. If not, I stay away until I find a time to help. It's not ever my goal to not help a survivor. But if they are playing stupidly, I keep a distance. As for being matched with a higher rank killer, I learn their techniques for each one. Well at least try to. Sometimes they are unpredictable. Sometimes it's absolutely frustrating, but i usually find myself upset at the other survivors for lack of good game play or getting kicked out of a match that just started. I think to myself, if this was really happening, these killers should and would be doing anything they want to get their kill. Even farming and grieving. I don't complain about those types of things. Behaviors. Although it sucks when you find a Dwight pointing in your direction for the killer to get you. If it was real life, I wouldn't doubt someone giving up the location of someone else, so that they themselves would escape. You know? Just take them as lessons. And always remember it's just a game. There is always that next match to do better in, to pay better attention to and learn. But again this could be a biased opinion because I absolutely love this game. I play damn near everyday and it's the only game I currently play since finishing God of War. Good luck with your matches!! Don't give up!

Ok, I'm a rank 3 survivor, rank 1 killer... And the thing I can tell you is that it really depends on your attitude.

    1) I play killer for the challenge. I'm the type that enjoys feeling challenged, and I know growth comes from losing, not winning. I've always learned more from getting wrecked, than I have from wrecking faces. And now, it's to the point that the only challenge I have is against a good swf group. And that's because of all the losing.

2). Make your own terms for victory. I don't ever go into a match expecting to 4k. I go into a match, knowing that if I get 20k+ BP and a safety pip, I'm happy. You don't have to 4k every match to win. Hell, I've gotten 1-2k so often, but had fun doing it.

Just keep your head up, learn from your mistakes, and move on to the next game. And if you're extremely competitive, go on YouTube, and watch Ussylis, OhTofu, Ardetha, TheKing, and Puppets... And don't just watch the killer mains. You'll learn a lot about how to kill good survivors by watching survivor mains play.

So yeah.. be persistent, keep your head up, and remember that this is a game first and foremost. You'll get the hang of it in no time. Especially facing survivors that skilled.

If you mean 'secrets' about killer gameplay, there are three that I can give you that I learned by playing at rank 1:

    1. Go through the learning process. At 50h, you've barely scratched the surface.
    2. Don't expect games to always go your way. If they did, then there would be something wrong in the game itself. Analyze what you did wrong and what you could've done better.
    3. Related to the previous point, do not tilt and do not spread the toxicity by venting your frustration for a bad match on the players in the following trial.

Regarding matchmaking, it's bad for killers just as it's bad for survivors.

Kidding, you learn to not strive for a 4k or double pip, but to simply learn what works and what doesn't work. Go in with that mindset, ignore the gens popping every other second and use each match to test what you can do. Haven't got the longest time, think I'm barely at 300 hours, but I've managed to climb to Rank 1 as Killer on Xbox while playing, Legion. So, it's worked for me at least.

personally, setting myself a goal greatly helps me out.

i have the long term goal to fully max out all my killers, though since that is quite far in the distance i focus on maxing out the killer im currently leveling (Oni rn).

and in case i need a short term goal to work towards in one session, its not ending the session on anything but a certain rank i want to obtain / maintain (rank 1 for me).

so yeah, i guess having something to work towards keeps me at it. its also why i play the game a lot when the tomes are out, but now, inbetween the tomes, i suddenly dont have much motivation to play.
