I have a serious problem
Good news- I just got Rank 1 Survivor for the first time! I know rank doesn't matter, but its an accomplishment to me :)
My problem is that I'm completely reliant on Spine Chill. I've ran it so many times I've become dependent on it, to the point where I'm pretty much feeding my brains out w/o it. Going against Killers with small TRs is a nightmare, and a stealth killer is practically an instant black pip for me. I know how to use my 3rd person POV to look around, but I can't help wondering if thats what I'm doing wrong or what.
Help me quit the drug that is Spine Chill :p

Run this build and RUN.
Self-Care, Botany Knowledge, Decisive Strike and Balanced Landing.
Balanced can be swapped out for another Exhaustion. It's what I've used lately intstead of S-C, SC, SB and Bond.

I saw somebody post a similar thing but they said they were addicted to Bond and Kindred. I'll tell you essentially what I told them: if it meshes well with your playstyle and it feels good for you to play with, I don't know why you would want to be switching it out anyway.

The thing is I want to get better at the game without relying on perks like a crutch. Trying out different builds, variability, and variety- like if for whatever reason I can't use SC, I dont want to go from red ranks survivor to green ranked. Especially not with other red ranked killers (again, rank dont matter, but its a general skill difference).

If that's truly how you feel, just play the game "naked." Go with nothing. I don't even say this to be sarcastic or anything, but I just feel like pretty much every perk is a crutch to some extent, and if you feel like it's a crutch to use Spine Chill then it's probably going to be just about as much of a crutch using any other perk.
I've been in the same boat trying to find other perks to use, but honestly I kind of just use whatever I want now and see how it plays out. You never know what you'll go against anyway.
My point is, at the end of the day, I don't think you should overthink it. Obviously it's good not to lean into one perk too much but you know what I mean...

Besides the tip of running other useful perk builds to make up for it, I would just start spinning the camera. I don't mean until the point of being dizzy, but know the gen location. constantly switch where you look at areas of access. just keep constantly rotating all the possible ways a killer could sneak up on you. Have a plan for each scenario where the killer can enter. He's coming through shack pallet? vault the window(either slow for stealth or loud vault if you plan to start looping) or go out the back entrance. Coming through the back entrance? Run through shack pallet or throw it down if you are in the position to do that. make a plan for all scenarios.

Play without perks for a while.
Eventually you'll do well, it should help build a little confidence over time.

Just run vault speed build and keep relying on spine chill :3

If you have made it to rank 1, then switching perks isn’t going to push you back to green ranks. Give yourself some credit. If you want to kick the habit, try out bond, it helps to give you a good sense of where the killer is based on what you see the other players doing. You still have to be aware of your surroundings, and you just have to learn when to commit to a gen, and when to bail. Maybe a stealth build is what you need. Get yourself a blendette, run urban, bond, Q&Q, and dead hard.

Pair spine chill with resilience, boom no need to switch spine chill, friendly reminder kids don't do shadowborne.

There's nothing wrong with relying on Spine Chill, as long as you also use your eyes to scout your surroundings. If you feel you're not doing that, then simply take Spine Chill out of your build for a while. But the perk itself is perfectly fine and it's not a crutch.
