Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

What Does The Forums Think About Iridescent Addons

Some of these have somewhat strong effects that is different than other addons. Examples would be Wraith's both addons (silent bell and generator progression auras), Legion's Iridescent Button (pallet breaking and map wide TR), Deathslinger's Iridescent Coin (exposed when shot from far)...

Some of these promote different play styles. Ghostface's "Ghost Face Caught on Tape" (faster stalk when leaning), Micheal's both addons (infinite T3 and mori in T3), Spirits Mother-Daughter Ring (no scrathmarks but faster phase), Hag's Mint Rag (free teleport to any trap)...

And lastly, some are just very powerful without much or no penalties. Huntress's Iridescent Head (less ammo, one shot hatchets), Plague's Black Incense (aura reveal anytime survivors vomit), Clown's Readhead's Pinky Finger (exposed when hit by bottle)...

Im just curious what the community thinks of all these iridescent addons.

Personally I like iridescent addons that promote different playstyles, like in Micheal's case. They open more build possiblities with that killer. On the other hand I very dislike all of the very powerful ones since they give the killer a huge advantage for free. I've seen Clowns down entire purple rank groups in a few minutes, it was harmful both for the survivors and the killers since no one probably ranked or got any good points during those games.

TLDR; Those pink addons, you like em?

60-70% of them are very underwhelming or straight up useless.

Very few UR's are truly worthy of their rarities.

I have been playing since Clown was released and I honestly feel like there fine. Huntress makes me a bit angry but thats only because of bad hitboxes not the add on its self.

I don't think they should be changed at all.

I agree, straight up buff add ons are just boring imo.

My favourite URs are always the ones that, within reason, change a Killer's playstyle significantly. Sometimes that can be a simple effect like Wraith's URs, other times it can be more complicated.

Less liked are ones like Iridescent Head that are just strong as hell. In my opinion the meta Killer Addon setups should involve mostly Rare addons and VRs, never URs.

Least favourite are the ones that are just bad.

Sometimes there's overlap: Eg. Nurse's URs are terrible, but I like that they at least make her different, I just wish these different effects were viable.

I think the thing I lament the most is that, in my opinion, Scratched Mirror is the Addon that feels the most like what an "Ultra Rare" IMO should feel like. Don't get me wrong, I could do without those bad jumpscare myers games where I get a crappy map for him and just get looped, but it's just a totally different experience for both sides and it's a friggin' VR.

While some informational URs are fun to have, I personally think Survivors should know when I'm running an UR. Instead of "oh yay, I can keep track of gen progress" I much prefer transforming a game into a highly different experience and forcing Survivors and myself to change our playstyles.

I definitely prefer ones that promote alternative play styles rather than simply being op garbage like oneshot hatches.

Nice to hear that its not an unpopular opinion.

With a good player these addons give those killers reliable ways for instant downs when their base kit doesnt. I feel like a single addon giving this much power isnt good. If you think those killers need this power then something similar should be added to the base kit, I personally dont think either of these killers are balanced with their iridescent addons.

Most I think are fine. I think they should be powerful, but they should promote a different playstyle. Some do this well like you mentioned, while others dont.

    I'll put 2 different spectrums:

Nurses pinks kinda suck. The torn bookmark is the only addon that gives you another blink, but losing the ability to blink through objects just makes the blinks just terrible. The matchbox isnt much better. I guess if you are very accurate with the 1 blink it is good, but many nurses use the 2nd blink to close the distance.

Meanwhile, we have huntress dummy powerful iridescent hatchets. If it was only 1 hatchet, it would be fine. It is when you stack infantry belt it becomes an issue. So I guess what I'm saying for huntress is that the iri-head if you couldn't stack extra hatchet addons.

The only one I don't like is Huntress hatchets, and it's honestly not the addon. Its the broken ass hit boxes.

I like UR add-ons that buff the power with a significant downside, though not one so significant as to negate the buff altogether, just significant enough to not be simply a free boost. Myers' Tombstone and Tuft of Hair, Huntress' Iri Heads and Clown's Pinky Finger are all good examples of this (the downside, in all three cases, being that it requires you to be particularly accurate or concentrated in the use of your power to take advantage of its effect). The reason I like them is mainly because they're just really fun to use for the killer, and reward you for being good at the mechanics of using your power. As long as they truly are "ultra rare" - that is, as long as their rarity is proportional to their strength - they remain balanced overall.

I felt a similar way about "instaheals" before the nerf. Although the difference there is that instaheals took a bit less skill to use, they were also harder to obtain due to survivors having a larger pool of ultra-rares. Perhaps they could have used some adjusting, but I personally think it was overdone, and it seems to be part of a trend of nerfing powerful add-ons on both sides into near-uselessness for fear of making things too 'unfun' for the opposing side. In competitive games, not everything is always fun for everyone, and that's just how it works. Better to accept that than to charge 7K bloodpoints for memes. But again, that's just my opinion.

That's not to say that I don't like add-ons that switch up the gameplay, I just don't think that those should be the rarest and most expensive because it ensures they almost never get used. If we want to encourage players to try different, but not necessarily more powerful, playstyles with a killer, the add-ons that do that should be rare, and leave the very rares and ultra rares for powerful boosts.
