What counts a camping?
Hi new player here, I just got into playing killer and I thought going around generator to generator was fine, since most of the time one was ever working on them when I got there. And even when I hooked people I would walk away into the map for a good 15-30 seconds before checking back to see if anyone was going over there. This has made basically every match end with me being called a camper. Should I be wandering more and not focusing on looking around gens?

Camping is sticking around near the hook, under any circumstances. Sometimes it's more justifiable than other times, such as if you know that there are other survivors nearby waiting to rescue. What you did was kind of borderline, but the important thing is that even if you were walking in circles around the hook, that's still okay. Memes aside, it is a perfectly valid tactic. Not always the most rewarding one, but valid nonetheless.
You're always going to run into people that accuse you of misbehaving just because your gameplay isn't convenient for them. Best to just ignore them and play however you want to.

Depends on the type of camping.
Face camping is when the killer doesn't move and is right on top of the hooked person, making saving them impossible without a trade.
Proxy camping is when the killer doesn't leave the person on the hook but doesn't sit in front of them either.
Swarming is when survivors never leave the hooked person, forcing the killer too camp too make sure they can't get a save. (this is the non toxic thing)

Let me say this I’ve always felt like it’s fishing you put some bait on the hook and it will attract other fish.
camping can cause you to lose.
thou it can also work I’ve had people dive bomb the hook and end up getting killed
also people that play this game are like 14 year old kids and talk trash to each other
even if you don’t you will still be talked to like that as killer
damned if you lose damned if you win
play to have fun
