Matchmaking is taking all my will to play killer

I am a rank 8 survivor, and when I play survivor I keep getting ranks 19 20

Meanwhile when I play killer as rank 7 I usually get all red ranks

Why is it that survivors keep getting paired with lower ranks no matter what?

It's allready bad that I get paired against red ranks swf, but every single game?

I am glad I am done with this killer challenges because godamn this is a horrible exprience

I play killer at rank 17 and get red and purple rank survivors. That's been the norm for a while, now.

I want to say it's because the number of ppl playing killer is usually smaller than the number of ppl playing survivor.

Just be patient friend, BHVR are working hard during these difficult times to roll out a MMR system, and they are very fickle things and need to be done right otherwise they risk screwing up matchmaking even harder. Just have faith, I know that alot of players like to just hate on BHVR for some things, and in my early dbd days i was no different, but they're trying.

I agree matchmaking is a problem. My friend and I played together the other night and we are 6 and 4. Every match our team mates were 1s and 2s. But we did not have a single match with a killer out of double digits. I just let the killers kill me a time or two when the round went real bad for them.

Bad matchmaking started once rank reset got reworked so every survivor made it to red ranks very easily

It's because there are a shortage of killer players as of recently. Wether its because there was a small imbalance and the weird lobbies caused killers to quite and snowballed it or its because the game is unbalanced (no shade to BHVR, its hard to balance a competetive Asymmetrical game because if you actually gave a killer the power to consistently 1v4 without any dedicated learning then the majority of the player base ((survivors)) would not be happy about it so its a tough situation) But MMR will fix this if they do it right. Its hard to say how they are going to judge this mmr, but if i know anything about MMR (long history playing comp games like League and Rainbow six) then it will balance it out. Sure, You might have longer que times as a high rank survivor or a low rank killer, but i personally would rather wait 2 more minutes and have a fun game than go against a rank 1 swf and get obliterated, what about you?

"Fine 3 months ago" but its been bad for a month? Wouldnt that mean it was fine 1 month ago? Think yo're seeing red bud.

They already rolled out a patch last year that guaranteed ranks will be playing by their color code.

It was working perfectly fine for months.

    WTF happened to it?

Not saying matchmaking "works well," but rank doesn't mean much. What's the difference?

That was last year. Alot of controversy and survivors and killers alike being too toxic lead to a shortage of killers. The system works like others.

    1. The game will look for similar ranked players in your region, probably within 2 ranks of you up or down.
    2. If the game cannot find you a lobby with similar ranked players that are also in que (remember there are other ques)
    3. After X amount of time, the game will expand the rank requirements by a larger amount
    4. 3 will be repeated until it finds you a game

It will also slot players that just finished a game and are of higher rank and slot them with lower rank survivors to "balance the numbers".

This matchmaking is because of a lack of killers, not BHVR. Killer ques are almost instant, survivor ques take 5 minutes. Wonder why?

I'll agree with you there, definitely yes.

This is because of lack of killers.

Because both the rank and matchmaking system are broken.

High rank survivors aren't actually high skilled survivors. Low ranked killers are not actually low skilled killers. Matchmaking is prioritizing getting people into matches over aligning their rank number...which TBH isn't great for new people...but also isn't that bad considering most survivors don't belong in their higher rank and ranking as a killer is known to be much harder by comparison...so better killers sit at lower ranks.

The whole thing needs a massive overhaul. If they aren't going to fix is, they should just stop showing ranks post-match so people stop complaining.

As soon as they introduce MMR, the game will get a more reputable balanced outlook even with the longer que times, drawing back in players and allowing BHVR to work on other things. They are already making adjustments to things like larger maps, god loops and other abuse-able parts of the game on both killer and survivor sides alike. DBD is a massive game and from what i can tell suffered from too much too soon concept. With so many perks and so many characters and so many maps and so much rng and so much....etc etc, BHVR have alot of outdated or new "techs" that they need to deal with, and right now they don't have the resources to do so as well as they would like because of the pandemic.

Let's say we have 3 groups of 4 red rank survivors waiting to be paired with killers.

There are 2 red rank killers. The first 2 survivor groups get paired with the 2 available red rank killers.

The 3rd group of survivors has to wait for the next available killer. As time passes, it will expand the search. Let's say x amount of time has passed and there's a rank 17 killer availabe to play. The system will then match 3rd group of red rank survivors with the only killer available at that time, which happens to be a rank 17.

We would need 1 red rank killer per 4 red rank survivors at all times to match red rank vs red rank consitently.

If we had 40 groups of red rank survivors waiting in a lobby to be paired up, we would need 40 red rank killers. Say we have 25 red rank killers and 15 killers with ranks of purple or higher. We have enough killers to have 40 matches, but 15 of those match ups could be seen as unfair.

There are not enough red rank killers to match with red rank survivors.
