I know how to achieve 60+ FPS on console
This is more an advice for the devs than the consumer since they have to make it happen and the consumer can't make it themselves.
But to me it either seems like the devs don't even know that (which would be embarrassing to say the least) or they simply don't care and have other priorities (look > FPS).
However, BHVR.. Turn off volumetric fog. Or give consoles (and pc aswell while at it) the options to decide if they want volumetric fog or not. This option is power hungry as hell. It's known in every game.
And before engine.ini editing wasn't possible anymore I did many experiments to see what exactly costs a lot of fps and where I can find the fine balance between looks and performance.
The results: volumetric fog is by far the most unnecessary options and has yet most impact on the performance. I tried it out on a low end laptop and on a mid end pc. On both systems I was achieving over 30% more fps, in some cases I was even able to double the fps.
Edit: to specify my experiment, the exact line in unreal engine was "r.fog" and the value "0" stands for "off". This line is probably number 1 reason for destroying console performance and definetly for low to mid PCs.

What even is volumetric fog?

Please check this out because it would be a great help to those of us on console.

I expected some more enthusiasm from the console community. Seems like they don't care about more fps and general better perfomance ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Tbh, when I played on console I used to think it was supposed to be like that, but when I came to PC I came to notice the massive difference in performance and haven't been able to go back since.

Isn’t the fog part of the game? as in, arent there offerings to increase and decrease it??

Volumetric fog is more about lighting than actual fog

The thing console needs the most isn't more FPS but stable FPS.
60+ FPS won't help us if it still drops to almost zero when playing on certain maps, using certain killer powers, getting hit by status effects, gaining bloodlust or sometimes when survivor use dead heard etc.

It's better to have 80fps dropping down to 50 fps than having 40 fps dropping below 30 fps.

Oh and also: dbd is accessing HDDs very poorly. With my HDD is get constant lags, fps drops and freezes. Once I installed it on a SSD it was gone. However, dbd was the ONLY game which did this. All other games (even open world games like gta) had no issue with my HDD.

I just think the problem as to why DBD is so extremely poor optimized is probably more complicated than just adding a switch to turn cerain graphical settings off.
The fact that their communication regarding this topic is more or less non existant doesn't really help either.

I just saw this and i thank you for the tip. Unfortunately as far as i know, we console riff raff are incapable of modifying such things.
The hdd thing now, i have been waiting for an excuse to get a hard drive. This may be it!

They had road map for "60fps" on consoles (2018). For some reason tho, they dropped it. Consoles right now running at 20-30fps maximum and sometimes goes to 15fps easily. They don't care about consoles. Too obvious.

Well, we pc users were able to turn it off but with 3.7.0 update it got removed aswell. So if we all would vocalise to the devs that we want this setting for everyone on every platform then we all would be winning from that in every perspective.
Yeah SSDs are much cheaper nowadays so it's actually worth it since you can use them on console but pc aswell.

Does turning Volumetric Fog off make the game look better or worse? Just curious.

Yes.

Yes to what?

Higher fps would be nice.
Do you happen to have visuals for it being on or off? So we know it's not an advantage to have it on or off. (Besides fps)

Actually worse, especially in dbd. Some maps are extremely dark since they weren't designed with volumetric fog disabled. But this shouldn't be a big problem since the devs could still tweak this by adding a gamma value which makes the game overall brighter and compensate missing volumetric fog.

In the current state it's more a disadvantage since some maps render out extremely dark with volumetric fog disabled. But that's something the devs could easily adjust tho. The normal fog (aka mist) won't disable tho so mist offerings still work.
