Underrated Perks Pt. 4: Autodidact
I'm starting a series of discussion posts about perks that I think are underappreciated and players should try using more often. For all of these posts, feel free to give your thoughts on if you agree and why, or why you think the perk is meh.
I'll admit, this one's a bit of a harder sell than the other perks I've mentioned. I still stand by what I'm about to say though: when Autodidact works, it is one of the best healing perks in the game. Many people stay away from this perk because it is entirely luck based (dependent on skill checks), makes your healing worse until you get more than 2 tokens, and removes Great Skill Checks from healing. However, there's a reason for having this many restrictions. A healing skill check at 5 tokens, or even just 4 tokens, will almost instantly heal a teammate one health state. This is incredible at countering anti-healing builds (so long as it isn't Plague you're fighting). It doesn't matter if the Killer has Sloppy Butcher, Thanatophobia, Coulrophobia, and using Mangled addons, Autodidact counters it all with a simple skill check.
One of the more popular healing perks whose idea is comparable to Autodidact is the perk We'll Make It. While that perk is more reliable, it's not always possible or ideal for you to go unhook a teammate, and thus get the benefit of the perk. When you build up tokens with Autodidact, it's like having We'll Make It wherever you go (again, as long as the game is kind enough to give you skill checks).
Am I saying you should run this perk all the time? Absolutely not. Most other healing perks are more consistent and are more suitable for general use. But if you're looking to play a not-so-serious match and you want to see the nods of approval from your teammates when they see you have this perk, as if they're saying, "I see. An Autodidact gamer! Go my good man, make the dream happen!" then give it a try. You might find it's not as bad as the legends claim.
What does everyone think?

With this post, I've completed my list of underrated Survivor perks. If there's any other perks you think I should talk about, let me know. For now, I'm moving on to the underrated Killer perks.

I'd Love the perk if it wasn't heavily RNG sided.
I agree with you though, it's an amazing perk when it wants to work.

I'd probably just use "We'll make it" because autodidact has a horrible tendency to not give you enough tokens fast enough for it to matter. Or worse, you are trying to get a heal off and the first two token stacks regressing the heal get your teammate killed.
It's somewhat rare for the killer to injure someone and just run off to let them heal. You will mainly do healing when you unhook someone. You also need to be running something like Empathy to get your healer style build to really be impactful, assuming the killer is just hitting people with sloppy butcher and running off, and that autodidact / empathy could just be BT/DS instead.
I mainly see one person running it in a SWF, and even then it looks mediocre compared to just slapping on another second chance perk.

Takes too long to build up and relies on RNG. So, for me, it's simply not worth using.

With the speed games go by the time you get all the stacks it's pointless. I love trying to make it work but it just doesn't.

It is one of my favourite perks to run. Its definitely based on RNG, but that doesnt bother me.
I do wish it increased healing skillcheck chances when you have less than max stacks.
