Serversided hit validation
So now the dedicated server will do what it was supposed to do in the first place? Also finally death to vpn ghost killers? What you guys think?

Hopefully this makes hits feel more fair for both sides.

It's has a high chance of wrecking ######### for ALL killers, not just vpns. It doesn't take a ridiculous ping on both sides to create those weird hits. Even a modest ping from both players will create suspect hits. In those games (not the crazy high ping stuff), the killer is basically on top of you when he hits you, according to his screen. He's a bit outside of range on yours though. From the way it was phrased, the validation making it "more fair" sounds an awful lot like it's going to err on the side of the survivor. Like how grabs currently work. If it winds up that even regular hits have the reliability of a Gen grab now? Yeah, there's going to be riots.
As always, we won't know til we see anything. Most of the "promised land" solutions people think we're getting don't usually wind up working out nearly as well as they did on paper.

yes but on the other side the killer could be nowhere to be seen and suddenly you go down. I faced a doctor who would literally swing like 50 feet away and id still take the damage. And i had a ghostface who walked away and then suddenly i get hit on the other side of the loop. so does the benefits outweigh the negatives?

In stream they did mention that it's mostly going to counter EXTREME hits, like those you would experience with a VPN user. Like going down from the swing of a hillbilly 20 meters away. So I wonder if it will effect minor discrepancy hits at all? Dunno.

My general thinking is that it's going to adversely affect normal games just as much as it does killers with 1200 ping. How often do you actually run into killers playing from the moon vs. normal games or *slightly* laggy games?
It wouldn't be worth hamstringing ALL games to try and even up a handful of extreme edge cases.
There's also a question of how effective it will even be against those edge cases. It may lower the amount of completely insane hits, but will it actually level it out to anything fair in the end? Not sure.
Again, all speculation without seeing it in action. I just have a gut feeling thst it's going to be ugly.

I'm hoping that it does it's job well. I've had cases before where I'm hit and the killer is nowhere even near me.
What I'm guessing, from a technical standpoint is, it will work based on the positioning of the player and the "attacking hitbox".
Attacking hitbox being the killer's means of attacking you (m1, hatchets, spear, chainsaw, etc).
Think of a positioning like Minecraft's X/Y/Z system. It could check and validate distance in a manner similar to that.
It could also check and determine how long a collision or "hit" was based in milliseconds.

It's true, it's possible the system will work extremely well out of the box, and do exactly what they want it to without skewing things one way or the other.
I just don't have a lot of faith in that outcome, personally.
And if it doesn't work well, it's going to be a hell of a powder keg.
