How is this game?

I'd like to clarify ahead of time that this isn't coming from someone looking to see if they should continue playing. Just a curious observation.

I've played this game for a long time, been on the forums for a good bit, got in trouble here not too long ago, said some things that weren't liked. I may have been rude but my point was still valid. that's not why I'm here.

This game is broken, broken very badly. I've seen too many things that suggest that there are no intentions to rightfully fix it and I think it's a combination of the following;

  • A general lack of genuine insight on behalf of the developers
  • A community that regardless of their choices will always support them. The devs either struggle to see the issue through the mist or simply see no issue since they are always supported in their choices.
  • A decision that, the game is what it is. It functions and it does it "adequately"

My problem stems from the fact that I've seen too many things that are ultimately nonsense.

SWF has so many bugs, a survivor might be kicked from a lobby before entering a killer lobby, when all of them are together some are shown in lobby or appear where they aren't. These are just the lobby issues.

Developers who try to announce why they cannot fix an issue but there are so many games that have fixes. Some of these fixes likely exist in the form of free code online. The problem is that people will voice their opinion in favor of what the developers say because thinking independently is over-rated.

Hitboxes that don't hit, endgame that is unfairly balanced, lobbies that won't work, disconnection errors and their inability to distinguish between purposeful or accidental. There are so many problems with the game which ultimately seem like peanuts on their own but together they amount to something incredible and awesome in it's inability to function properly.

Does it function? Yes. The game has potential, obviously because it's alive and well. The problem is that the developers do not see fit to fix minor issues regardless that they have piled up over time. I APPLAUD their coming change with a hidden MMR system. Will it fix things? We'll see. As it stands though some people are looking on at the mountain while many more are taking selfies with the devs on the beach.

We get comments from the uncaring development team who have been memed to hell with the whole "Pretty good job so far" which I mean, who would have even bothered to meme it if it wasn't true? We need a major patch that cuts down the mountain instead of trying to atone for their sins that is Meg's face.

I’m gonna stop you at “The devs either struggle to see the issue through the mist or simply see no issue since they are always supported in their choices.” The community is very vocal when it comes to feedback or wanting something changed. Thing is, the devs either flat out ignore, use “we’ll look at it”, take months to finally come around, and even forget feedback we give and data they promise. It gets to the point where you have to ask if there’s even a reason to make a claim.

There’s nothing to hate the devs for (most of the time) but you just have to raise an eyebrow sometimes with how they handle things. Personally their biggest problem is lack of communication, of course the devs can’t talk to everyone all day but I miss the weekly streams. It really showed a connection to us and the developers. I know though the devs hate when they get asked dumb questions like “fix this now” or just generic “your game sucks” posts so I understand that part.

We all have love for the devs but sometimes you gotta poke fun at them for past mistakes which they’ll eventually fix.

Don't forget when we repeatedly ask the devs to add certain features into the game, and they keep saying that they won't because "it is not in their plans." If your community is asking you for years to add stuff like ranking/devotion rewards, reducing the grind, numerous QOL changes and not to mention hook struggle, you better make damn sure that you add it to your list of things that you WILL DO and DO THEM SOON.

And then they want to be smart asses, and say "This is one question that we get asked a lot, every stream." Yeah, because the community wants to see it added, even if you don't. Not pleasing your players will bite you in the ass sooner or later, BHVR.

They added the archives did they not which gives tons of free bp for challenges and they also have ideas of reworking the daily challenges. They listen to what we say but they can't change everything in a day because of how much time it takes and what it would do to the game to change that much at once. If changing 3 small things breaks 3 other things think of what would happen if they changed the 1000 things in the game right now.

    ''Endgame is unfairly balanced''

If this is the case then the early game is unfairly balanced as well

the devs stated that the survivors should have the upperhand in the early game and the killers late game. So in my opinion endgame IS balanced. Like if the killer killed 3 people AND found the hatch, I am sorry but the chance for escaping shouldnt be high for the last survivor.

I think its really fun for a short session. You just have to go in the game expecting to lose but trying to win. That makes it tolerable to lose in an unfair way, and satisfying to earn a victory against all odds.

I mean, they're a business. While bringing us enjoyment in the game is a goal, I'm sure, they need to keep selling copies, and keep making money. For all the complaining people do, if sales numbers are up and the user base grows, they absolutely don't need to change things as fast as you're implying.

I know thats probably unpopular, but its just good business.

That said, I do think the devs do care about this game a great deal and want to improve it. I also work in software and know thats often not as fast a process as users like to think it is on most occasions.

Its usually a better idea to delay a deployment than to put out a bad deployment. Many occasions launching a product or update early when its not ready has tanked entire game studios.
