The number 4 explained
Look at the thumbnail, then at 1:44. Any questions?

how dare you make me watch the trailer again knowing it's been delayed?? I'm onboard tho. 🐝
4 -
I take it you don't know there's a new killer coming soon and the subject of who that killer is is a hotly debated topic.
0 -
Well, you will see him soon enough.
2 -
Someone ELI5? I don't understand what I'm supposed to be seeing.
0 -
The (barely) stylized number 4 in the anniversary banner is referencing Candyman's hook and not Pyramid Head (whose head just looks like a number 4 all the time, because that's how triangles work) or anything else people have been saying.
0 -
I can't say I see it. I don't have any sort of belief over whether he might or might not be the next killer, but the alleged reference just isn't there for me.

You'll see... You'll all see!
[/crazy old man voice]
3 -
Gotta say that i'm not seeing it either.
1 -
This feels like a stretch. I also don't think Candyman fits the descriptions and terminology they used about the new killer coming however vague they were.
4 -
So you don't think "bee pretty sweet", followed by a candy emoji, fits the guy who controls bees, has a saying related to sweets ("Sweets to the sweet"), and is literally called the CANDYman?
I'm sorry, but at some point you have to recognize you're in denial.
2 -
Candyman appears to be one of, if not the top contender for next licensed killer. I don't agree with it, myself, because I didn't know of him before everyone speculated, and I was unimpressed with him when I watch the movie. I just do not think he is iconic enough for what they are saying.
3 -
Im gonna laugh when it turns out its not him
1 -
I can't wait when it's revealed that it's not candyman. I just can't wait.
4 -
If the 4 was the only hint then I would agree that it would be reaching, but all hints especially the bee-tweet and candymans voice-actors comments accumulated do point at Candyman.
the 4 itself looks more like clean slashes to me, which would be more suited to a knife than a hook I guess? The 4 being shaped like Pyramidhead was only a joke I thought? No one really believes this would be a hint..

I'm more recognizing bait when I see it is all.
6 -
Has there ever been such a direct bait though?
(Serious question, I think a bait like this could upset many people but if it has happened before then it’s possible)
2 -
It's technically also in the nature in the number 4 to resemble a hook, when you replace a specific line. And Triangles do look different depend on their angles. My bet is on the Candyman as well, but I have to say that I undestand people thinking of Pyramid Head, when they see this stylized four, because it appears similar based on it's angles.
I honestly think that the four might be just a design idea. Maybe the Designe wanted to give it a sharp, angled look with it stylazition in general and it isn't a reference at all.

If it's not, then I suppose I'll be disappointed for a couple days, but it'll pass. If it is, I'll be very happy for quite a while.
I've asked that before, nobody has answered yet. Hopefully the fact that I'm mentioning this now will get someone to reply, but I doubt it.
1 -
I mean if you're looking forward to it being candyman go for it, but I'd suggest lowering your expectations because of what Mooks said. That Twitter post a while ago is too obvious for it to be a teaser.
0 -
Lol
0 -
The Stranger Things chapter teaser was very obvious, but I think it was teased much closer to the trailer's release.
2 -
Mooks asked if they'd ever sent out a big red herring like this.
0 -
I see what Orion is getting at but honestly the window at 2:07 (top left, rafters with light behind it) might be slightly more obvious to most people.
And yes, Candyman seems to be the most predicted among everyone but I still don't see it being in DBD.
0 -
I seriously doubt it's Candyman, They said the killer is iconic and I'm gonna be honest here. I didn't even know who this guy was until dead by daylight came about. It really feels like Candyman may be for another season. (I think it's Alien just by the dev picture teasers showing half life face huggers)
0 -
Didn't Scott Jund already confirm the new killer isn't Candyman?
0 -
Yeah I meant it the way Orion described it.
this bait feels too heavy to not be real -!: I think they never made clues that hinted at something that turned out to be false.
i guess they did tweet something that hinted at Jeepers Creepers, but that was before the whole incident with the director? I am not sure though..
0 -
I think mostly because of Paulie Esther, they literally said they were going to start putting out distractions for all the conspiracy theorists. Red herrings, if you will.
0 -
@Tunnel_me_please Wouldn't say that he confirmed anything. He even made it clear, that people shouldn't take anything for 100% granted:
For the record, stuff I've known has been both right and wrong and I am by no means a reliable source of info for leaks, nor would I leak the stuff if I did know it because thats a dbag move.

Why would you automatically assume he knows for sure or isnt just putting out misinfo?
1 -
What's the point of the Devs giving out clues if they give out clues for every killer. Horror movies have always been a game of deduction, where the director and writer give out clues to the identity of the killer. Look at the movie, The Thing by John Carpenter, it had clues throughout the movie that would let you figure out who the thing was and wasn't. The clues were subtle, but they were there. That's why players in DBD gets into trying to figure out the clues for the next killer, because they're horror fans at heart and horror fans like intelligent, well put together mysteries. If you throw fake clues everywhere, it's no longer fun for the player base because you're taking the "lame" way out. You're not intelligently placing subtle clues, you're just vomiting up red herrings everywhere and ruining the game for everyone.

Maybe it's Sam from Trick R Treat lol. But yeah, with the other wording they use,it really doesn't fit. I and most people get stuck on "Legendary" killer. That makes it sound like Michael Myers,Jason,LeatherFace,Freddy, etc.
They also said something about the killer starting "a new genre of horror" that doesn't sound like Candyman either. You could stretch it to maybe say it was black (African American) horror, but I dunno. That wasn't as clear in the original. Pinhead started body horror,Saw was like a new genre, Halloween was considered the first slasher(which is heavily debated). The Thing and Alien (Xenomorph) started Sci Fi horror. Just some examples.
You just can't make Candyman fit with EVERY little subtle hint or word they've spoken. He's not Legendary in any sense. If you put every horror icon together,he wouldn't even be included 99% of the time. My guess is some of the clues are flat out BS or misdirection. If not it makes more sense to be the Xenomorph or Pinhead. Pinhead is about as legendary as Candyman (if not more so) and both Pinhead and Alien started new genres of horror.
Unless we are talking Creepypasta or webseries (of which none are even close to well know besides Slenderman or Jeff the Killer) I got nothing. Even for TV there's not much. Chucky would be a slap in the face. I want it to be Candyman,I just don't know.
0 -
Because Scott Jund knew who the past killers were before they were revealed.
1 -
Maybe the black stuff on the skull under the 4 is acid or acid burns lol. I think the Xenomorph makes the most sense,I really do. Id say it's legendary and it definitely sparked a new genre. Plus they did Demogorgon not long ago. You could also get a survivor out of it by using Ripley (not that the licensed ones always have survivors). If you wanted a survivor from Candyman, that chick is even more obscure than the Candyman himself haha.

Dead by Daylight's Discord on April 1st.
Yes you can say "he he he, it was a joke ha ha haa" but of everything in the world they could have made this into they chose bees.
The Staff.
You've seen this already.
But Tony Todd isn't a voice actor. This was Last week from his Twitter.
BangZoom is a chain recording studio that helped him set it up from home.
1 -
Sounds like a problem for the devs, not me. They're the ones that said they're gonna do it.
Also, as to why they would do it, it's probably just to throw people off and divert their attention from what they're really doing. Just like in horror movies how sometimes there will be somebody you suspect to be the bad guy, but really ends up being innocent or ends up killed. I don't think it ruins the fun for everyone. Some people like it and feel like it adds to the mystery.
0 -
"But Tony Todd isn't a voice actor."
Your comment is misguided in this assertion. He absolutely IS. At least 4 different DC animated movies voicing Darkseid, an entire season of voicing Zoom on The Flash...and more. A simple blush through his IMdB profile before making a definite statement would have prevented you looking somewhat foolish.
4 -
I cant give examples, not a social media person, but these devs like to bait or add red herrings in unofficial sources. They're trolls and love it.
But they are rather professional when it comes to anything official. Meaning, extremely tight lipped and give nothing that isnt approved beforehand.
If it isnt an official post or in the game's files. Odds are it is bait as any unofficial hints goes against their professional standards, and could even be a legal problem with revealing lisenced IPs too early. Ending in possible fines from the rights owners or that person risking their job.
Gaming is all fun and, well, games. But business is business.
2 -
When has BHVR ever set up "Red Herrings?"
I keep saying, they're not good at hiding DLC's.
1 -
Is his career based off Voice Acting?
No. He's an Actor that does Voice Acting.
Grey DeLisle, Tara Strong, Hellena Taylor are voice actors.
1 -
True...true...
0 -
He does and is known for both. I only provided a couple examples to counter the stretch of "hE's NoT a VoIcE aCtOr...so IT HAS TO BE CANDYMAN" bs. But you focus on whatever silly, pedantic and semantic wording you want...you're going to regardless.
0 -
Nope. And even if he had, unless he explicitly works for BHVR, his opinion is just that - an opinion.
0 -
It's not that, they don't even try to hide them. All these people are making BHVR out to be some kind of puppet master when they drop extremely unsubtle hints all the time on purpose. No amount of evidence will convince them. Hell, just look at how they're reacting to all the evidence showing it is Candyman: they're saying evidence of Candyman is actually evidence it's not Candyman. It's crazy.
0 -
They're not hiding anything. How many "hints" do you need before that just becomes blatantly obvious?
0 -
I really hope it's Candyman I mean all signs point in that direction. I gotta say I'm surprised how many ppl have never heard of him. Clearly it's an age thing cuz if u were a kid in the 90s u know Candyman. He's definitely iconic and the new one will bring the younger clueless horror fans around. I mean honestly how can u not know about Candyman.
1 -
Care to put your money where your mouth is?
1 -
So, quick question: when have they ever dropped red herrings?
0 -
The photos are not really hints or red herrings. They may contain hints but these would be obscure and nothing major and nothing that hints directly at one specific license.
the bee-tweet however is pretty much them saying „next chapter is Candyman“. Which is wierd because they never dropped that specific hints. But they never dropped that specific red herrings either (or did they??). So this is something new, and I think it could lead to backlash from fans that are now excited for Candyman (rightfully after that tweet though)
1 -
Maybe it does. Candyman was an earlier horror icon. I think there's a generational memory gap, but he could be that classic horror icon that shaped the genre
2 -
Sure, just lie to your fanbase about what's coming. That always goes well for developers who try it, right?
Also, I see you're not putting your money where your mouth is.
