The names of some killers don't make much sense
Killers are named based on the survivors, giving them nicknames so they can keep track on how to beat em. It strikes me as odd for some names:
The demogorgon, I don't think any survivor would know what this is but still it is called that way. If I had to make a fanfiction I could justify the naming in some way, like Nancy and Steve know it's real name, so they spread their knowledge around the campfire.
The deathslinger, ok I have some mixed feelings. It couldn't be impossible to call someone deathslinger, but why call him that when you can call him cowboy or the sheriff? Besides, every non-american character (or generally every character that doesn't have English as their mother language) shouldn't know what deathslinger means, but still, you can get away with it.
The Oni is no different from the last one, but I could guess people knowing what an Oni is, so it's forgivable.
And the new killer, which I bet will have the same naming.
What do you guys think? Let me know down below.

Why do you think killers are named based on survivors?
Killers are named based on how cool the devs feel the name sounds
I don't think there is any lore/flavor text from survivors that refers to killers by name. Not that i know of anyway

You're overthinking this. Stop doing this to yourself.

If any, the fluff based origin of their names is given from the surroundings the killers come from, not from inside the entity. The deathslinger was given this name due to his profession for example

I doubt it. Unfortunately I turn this into a lore post but, technically the killers could refer to themselves by their names. Why should Sally call herself Nurse for example? Or Evan trapper? If you think about it, it makes sense why the naming is kinda weird, otherwise why isn't the cannibal named leatherface?
Btw I don't think I am overthinking this subject, it just occurred to me as odd yesterday when I was going through the killers.

I think they should do away with the nickname feature when adding licensed killers. It can be awkward making up appropriate monikers.
But saying that, it is cool if you think the killers are 'baptized' when they become affiliated with the Entity. Their new title connects to their extention of lore.

'The Ghost Face'

Well yeah...the 'The' was a bit silly. But that's the issue with making up aliases for licensed killers, they need that 'The' 😁

I'm honestly just peeved they didn't call him 'The Ghostface'.
Why did they have to add a Space between GHOST and FACE?
It makes it look so awkward.

Because he has the face of a ghost. Why aren't haunted houses called "hauntedhouses"? Same thing.

Yeah I always write it as GhostFace.

But then it's Leatherface and not Leather Face.

Good point. It might be a copyright issue.

Could well be.
He's known as 'Ghostface' in affiliation with the Scream films, so the space between the words is likely another way of distancing from that franchise.

I'm sure it is. "Ghostface" is almost certainly trademarked and the rights owned by whoever owns the license to the character, whereas "The Ghost Face" is not.
@OP, as @Sonzaishinai pointed out, there's no reason to believe that the killers are named by the survivors. All the in-universe lore we have about the killers from others' perspectives comes from places like Benedict Baker's journal, which doesn't refer to any of them by their monikers, except when it's a literal description (e.g. "the trapper" as in "the one who traps").
If we do assume that the survivors use those names, though, it's still explainable. Pretty much every killer name except the Demogorgon is one that could reasonably have been made up by someone just observing them. And as for Demogorgon, even though none of the other survivors would know what to call it, remember that at the point in their timeline where Steve and Nancy were taken by the Entity, they had already encountered the Demogorgon and taken to calling it that. If the survivors as a group have names by which they refer to the killers, then presumably they can talk to each other when they're gathered around the campfire or something, and if that's the case then Steve and Nancy could easily have told the rest about the Demogorgon and their previous encounters.
