In game voice chat then buff killers?

I was thinking that it would be a good idea or at least fairer to allow in game voice chat so survivors can communicate on SWF level if they choose, then we would be able to buff killers more to deal with communication.

What (hopefully sensible and calm) thoughts do people have around this?

Sounds great to me but I don’t expect it to happen not even in a thousand years.

This was on my mind because with the introduction to crossplay (Console to PC), would they be adding a party voice chat into the game alongside it so we could chat with our friends?

I really doubt it but I'd love to chat with my friends while playing but... I can't see it coming.

It would be too much work for the Devs. Their time spent would be better making a Dbd2 rather than adding comms and rebalancing this game around it.

As far as comms go, if they're not optional, I don't want them. I don't want to hear mouth breathers, someones annoying music, someones mom calling them to go eat, someone chewing as loud as a horse, coughing, or whatever else people will be doing.

i wouldnt really like this, to be honest

in my opinion, the thing that makes swf have the potential to be overpowered is the fact that 4 very good survivors can group up to join a match. Comms wont make a 4man of rank 20s a sweat squad with everyone running meta perks.

I’m unsure of what they could really do outside of nerfing meta perks, but i honestly think its fine right now

    Please no

I don't want to mute everyteam I get

Have you tried friday the 13? It has voice communication and it's one of the worst features in the game

Its so weird that theres no in game voice communication. Just at a base level youd thjnk there would be and it would be proximity based.

That said id mute everyone everytime so idk 😂

You'd have the same system as overwatch where you can opt to be put in or out of voice chat by default so it comes down to choice. I feel, if everyone had comms as an option then killers would be able to be seriously buffed.

Just make a discord account and tell your friends to join there. I don't want to mute every player I joined in because I hear their dog barking, friends shouting, keyboard tapping and the most annoying part, their toxic voices calling out noob or newbies players.

I'm honestly not against in-game voice chat at this point. Just make it opt-in so people who don't want it don't need to turn it off every time.

    1) but a lot of the game would get lost, because a lot of the tension comes from not knowing exactly where the killer is, and what everyone else is doing. But if the killer is buffed, you basicly have to use it.

    2) I meet enough people who dont speak english in endgame chats. Having no common language with a russian or asian would lead to still no communication, but a buffed killer.

Just seperate swf and solo survivors, then balance differently. The killer doesnt even know if he goes against a swf if its balanced.

Always the same refrain - "swf and comms dont give an advantage", but for some reason, every killer in the game will dodge if they get an swf indicator. "Comms don't give an advantage" but we'll come up with a half dozen lame and easily mitigated reasons to not give them to everyone so that the game can't be balanced around that thing that "doesn't really give an advantage"

    Dudes are so transparent.

Not everyone knows how to speak English.

Plus I live in England, where often depending where someone is from it's even hard to understand someone when they are speaking English.

Ingame Voice Comms for SWF - would be an idea for different platforms. But even if someone is on PC and has friends on PS4, they could use Dicord via their Phone, for example.

Ingamce Voice Comms as standard communication between every Survivor - hell, no.

Not everyone speaks English. It might work in America, but not in Europe, 100% not in Europe. Also, if there is a 3 man Russian SWF, why should they use the ingame Voice instead of Discord? And even IF you can force them to use the ingame voice comms (which is not possible), why should they speak English with the random?

Also, not everyone wants to talk to 14yr olds with 5 Euro Mics. And there are also people who want an immersive experience - alone, without any communication.

I'm not saying to force it, I'm saying as an option so if people of the same language want to talk to each other then they can. Also, by doing this we can then look at making killers slightly stronger to give survivors more of a challenge.

Survivors already have the opportunity to use voice chat. You'll still be better off playing swf if you want to use comms anyways.

Exactly this. Everyone would keep their teammates muted and coordination among solos will see pretty much no improvement.

Why should anyone use ingame Voice Chat when they can use Discord? Like I said, I am Solo, there is a 3 man SWF. Why should they include me by any means? If they use Discord, myself as the Solo Survivor will have a disadvantage because the game would be balanced around usage of Voice Communication.

I would rather change the UI (so that there is a Chase Indicator, Gen Indicator, and so on)... Basically so that every Survivors knows what the other Survivors are doing (might be frustrating, lol). Stuff like Totem Counter as well.

To get as close as possible to the information a 4 man SWF has. And then Killers should be buffed to this level.

Your second sentence is pointless because OP is not proposing forced comms.

Isn't the problem for that that killers aren't strong enough or enough of a threat that forces survivors to actually work together? Surely if killers were stronger, many solos would see the need to actually work together to try and win which would give voice chat a point in being used. As it stands, communication pretty much trashes killers that aren't top tier.

No. Many players, especially solo, have no desire to play with voice chat. By buffing killers, you are essentially forcing them to use it or be put in an even worse spot than now. It would be detrimental to the game. Solo survivor is already the weakest role in the game, you can’t make it worse. Forcing comms is not the way to go. Another potential big problem would be the fact a lot of current SWF players would just continue using discord and mute the in game voice chat. Now you might have a solo player who has it chat on, being paired with that 3man SWF and literally talking to himself lol. How would that be fair? It’s just not a good idea.

  • AgitatedPenguin

Because not everyone uses Discord? Why should people be forced to use an external system to communicate when playing 1 game?

Optional voice chat should have been proposed when SWF became an option realistically.

For example, let's say I'm searching this forum for some partners to do a chill game with and we want to chat while doing it like any team game, why should we have to make sure everyone has discord on their phones and make a room when we could just turn on in game comms for that game session. Having an external discord would also mess with your audio when using a headset like 95% of dbd players use.

  • Waffleyumboy
    Waffleyumboy Member Posts: 7,318

Or they would just give up on solo because voice chat with randoms is unbearable.

  • Aven_Fallen
    Aven_Fallen Member Posts: 16,189

I mean, you are ignoring so many arguments.

Again - why should someone who does not want to use an optional Voice Chat have any disadvantages when the game would be balanced around Voice Chat? Because if you balance around this, you balance it around mandatory Voice Chat.

And if someone does not want to use the Ingame Voice Chat, they should be screwed? Not everyone wants to talk to strangers. I dont want to get shittalked by some Kid in a language I dont understand for something they think I did wrong. And some people playing DBD want to have a Solo Experience, no communication, just immersion.

You have to keep every player in mind, not those who would use Voice Chat anyways.

I'm not saying balance killers around voice chat, I'm saying balance it around a TEAM. Key word there. I'm trying to make solos as close to SWF as possible to killers can be buffed. Why even have 4 people in a game if you're not expected to work together and you can still trash a killer?

Voice chat is merely a single suggestion. Not everyone is an antisocial lone wolf trying to play a team game. Some people would like to communicate and work together to overcome an actual threat which let's face it doesn't exist at (actual) high rank survivors. When killers only win because of survivor mistakes you have a problem.

NO, just fix the ranking system and youll see how OP survivors are. i mean ffs the only time i dont escape is when people just physically arent doing anything in the match or have the ability to loop for more than 5 seconds. Plus id rather no hear a bunch of people crying either. there exists swf, do that if you want to talk but that makes it pretty easy most games

I don't think voice chat is the way to go. People from different countries would make the feature redundant, not to mention how annoying or rude people can be over voice chat. You can call me sensitive all you want but at the end of the day I don't think many people enjoy being verbally harassed by people online *cough cough* F13 *cough cough*.

In game chat it's such a pointless addition ... This is an horror game where you don't know what your teammates are going to do. What's the point in saying "Save me, I have DS so I can escape if only someone free me"? SWF already exist because tons of people asked for it and see how it breaks the game.

  • Aven_Fallen
    Aven_Fallen Member Posts: 16,189

SWF was planned from the beginning. Not because "tons of people asked for it". The game was released 2016, nobody would think about a Multiplayer Game where you cannot play with friends.

This "SWF was not planned" or "only exists because people asked for it" or "Survivors were review-bombing it on Steam to get SWF" is simply wrong.

I don’t see a point in adding to the actual game just play in discord or party chat it’s already there most people will do that anyways and you won’t hear them cuz they aren’t in game chat so it changes nothing
