I think the future graphic update should be optional
So many people are very excited for this upcoming graphic update, but it also worries many people who already have bad performance while playing DBD, or know that their PC wont handle the new graphic assets.
This is also my case, my PC tends to heat a lot while playing DBD, even if it is totally smooth. In my opinion, this graphic update should be optional, something you can activate/deactivate in the options, so that those who preferred the old graphics or their performance can't handle the new ones can switch back from the new graphic overalls.
What do you guys think ?

Or maybe, just maybe, games shouldn't be designed around potato PC's. The new graphical update was great looking, but any PC post-2015 should be able to run it fine.

Dbd wasn't made for low end pc, but they are planning on adding more graphical options to the game

Your PC running bad is due to them having terrible coding and optimization. If they do the graphics update properly and fix their code then it will more than likely run better than it did before. I find it kind of ridiculous I get frame drops in this game at times yet can run around doing whatever in RDR2 and have nothing happen.

Well as I said some people are running this game very smoothly but they might have less good performance when playing with the new graphic update. Maybe they don't really care about having more detailed graphics and don't really want to have lesser performance. It still needs to be an accessible game that of which you can change the parameters.
More graphical options to the game would be essential in my opinion, then again I'm also hyped for this, but I fear for my performance.

This^ I have also noticed this game has terrible optimization. It takes far more resources than needed, I also can play more modern games without such issues. Perhaps if they optimize the game better and add more graphical options, they could avoid it being an issue for some people. Not everyone has godlike performance and PCs!

I likely think these graphics changes will come with an option menu overhaul, the developers know it's long overdue and only being able to select low/medium/high/ultra is far too simple especially with these new graphics coming.
It would be nice if someone could let us know if this is the case and put those people with lower end hardware at peace @Almo @Peanits @McLean

I guess the Graphic Update will come with more options. I heard in the Stream of McLean that they are fully aware of the wish of more graphic options (also for something like colorblind mode). So a graphical update would be a perfect opportunity to bring those options.
In the end, the goal for Developers is always that the majority who was able to play a game before can still play it. However, if someone has a really poor PC and is currently running DBD with big problems, they should think about saving some money to buy better equipment. Because it will most likely not be possible that every PC will run with the new graphics.

DBD is the kind of game that requires a unified experience for everyone. You can't have one person with so much less detail than another. It wouldn't be fair.

I do not. A prime example of why is Killer Shack.
Currently it's a ramshackle building with wooden slats you can see through. As such, SMART Survivors can see through it and watch the Killer's movements.
According to the imagery, new Killer Shack is going to be a solid, brick and mortar design. Presumably, you will NOT be able to see through those walls to be able to see and mirror the Killer's movements.
If Survivors have the option to turn off the graphical update and go back to the far easier means of tracking the Killer, pretty much every single one of them will. At which point, what was the ######### point in doing it in the first place?

That's a fair point. In this case more graphical customization should be the goal, instead of having the option to go "back".

From what I understood, the update will be like the one Lery's Memorial Institude got, which didn't have a performance impact (or at least a negative one)

Colour blind mode? HELL YES, i will finally be able to see auras auras, scratchmarks and blood normally. I'm very excited

I mean, he just mentioned it as one of the things that are requested quite often. He did not confirm that it will come to DBD.

As someone who plays 15fps normally (until I get my new pc which will hopefully be able to hit a record of 20) Lèrys don't actually drop for me. It's really weird but my 15fps is at least a stable 15 and the only time I get framerate drops are the first time everyone falls asleep when I'm playing freddy.

I don't have drops on Lery's either, I used to have very low FPS while playing on Badham Preschool (the basement..), but they seemed to have fixed this so now it's fine.

I think I miss this, is it in the live stream they mention graphic update? can someone fill me in xD. Would be awsome to see some graphic upgrade in DBD :o, I really do want to see character update too in this game.

Honestly switch isn't as bad you'd think. Just because it sounds like a jet plane and reaches temperatures you can cook a full English breakfast on it, on all maps but Lèrys it's actually a pretty stable 25-30.
Let's just not talk about how it looks.

I can't see them creating a shittier looking version of every new asset they'll make whenever new content comes out.
