[Story thread] How I outplayed 4 survivors by pretending to be bad
My SWF teammate didn't want to play tonight, so off to play killer I went. Means you get a story, because I don't usually post survivor stories until our play session is over and by then I've forgotten some of the juicier ones.
I picked Oni because I'm trying to git gud with him and got a swamp map, the one with a super confusing building that has strong loops. Even disregarding that building, all the loops in swamp maps are terrible for Oni because of the tight turns and windows. So I decided to be patient and strategic.
I let the survivors repair three generators, all on one side of the map. I pretended to be terrible at chases: constantly "lost" them even if they were bleeding, abandoned chases when they ran into any, stuff like that. In retrospect this was too convincing because I only got Gold Chaser, but whatever, my goal is a 4k.
Eventually they fixed all the gens near those strong loops shortly after I killed one of them in the basement. What was left? 4 gens more or less in a straight line, against a high-mobility killer, with the basement right in the middle. Check mate.
The Ace gave up almost immediately once I hooked him in the basement (I think he realized what I'd done and how they'd ######### themselves big time), but Claudette and Nea fought with all they had. It took a while to get both of them (because Claudette), but eventually they slipped up and I finally got both of them. Two hooks later, GG.
The Claudette and Nea were pissy and called me a camper (I "camped" that first survivor in the basement because I knew they were around, hence no chaser penalty) and couldn't admit they'd been outplayed, but that's normal.

Wish I could "lose" them and pepper them later, but I really just lose them 😂
Nice Story 🍹

Nah, I literally let them escape when they tried to go for that annoying structure. I just tried to make it look legit by looking around obstacles I knew they weren't near and turning around like I was confused about where they'd gone. I didn't do the "I'll pretend I can't see you so you stay hidden until I hit you" shtick.

On an unrelated note, I may have to remove NOED from the builds that use it. Three trials today survivors prevented its activation, two of them in a row. I'd only seen that once before and I thought it was a fluke. Maybe Rancor will be a better choice, since it also gives me a kill.

That's hilarious. You can only pretend to be bad when you're actually really good.
1 -
Nah, I'm not that great. If I go full tryhard and have access to every perk, sure, I can reach rank 1, but when playing normally, I hover just above rank 10 as killer (currently rank 8).

If you say so.

Thank you. I'm glad someone appreciates them.
Playing like this is a gamble, though. Far too often they don't underestimate me and I end up getting stomped. Remember, these stories are curated, like video compilations. They're not the norm. If the survivors had been better, they would've seen it coming and focused on those 4 gens before the others, forcing me to let them repair at least one of them.

you've done a pretty good job

I had a killer pull something like this (though way more egregious). But I don't consider it being "outplayed" because we thought we were against a rank 20 and didn't want to bully them. We were trying to farm, to be nice, because currently its super common for me and my SWF, as all rank 1's, to get a rank 20 killer. We don't want to bully them.
Honestly it's a pretty scumbag tactic. What do you get out of this? It's like those people that pretend to be disabled or homeless so people give them money.

Oooo *clapping* Tell me another story.

Oh my ######### god if you seriously call a game tactic scumbag and then compare it to a real life issue you need to get a ######### life. I heard taking a walk could lengthen your life. If that's not possible, a simple exercise can get blood flowing into your brain.
Cool story btw. I do similar tactic but on the survivor side.
4 -
I sometimes do the opposite.
I will equip a yellow mori or a shroud offering and not even try to win, to make survivors genrush me in 4 minutes. No one gets any points, they enter another 10 minutes queuetime, while I as killer get an instant lobby, and then equip an actual mori, muhaha!

Yeah, they weren't farming. Farming would've been letting me hit them, for example, instead of teabagging at every pallet. If they'd tried to farm, I would've taken pity on them and played to the full extend of my ability (or just farmed along with them).
What I got out of this was a 4k that I would've have trouble getting otherwise. Even then it was difficult at the end because Claudette is ######### invisible and we all knew where the hatch was.
I'm glad we agree.
How do you do this on the survivor side, though? I know killers can be merciful sometimes, but not always.
But why?
1 -
Exactly.
0 -
Yea if they are being dicks IDGAF what you do.
I'm just sayin' I've encountered killers that pretend to be rank 20's then turn into rank 1's the moment they get the opportunity to slug everyone or use NOED/BW or something, even when we play nice because we don't want to booly a rank 20.
1 -
And that's why I always escape ASAP and don't underestimate my opponents. As a killer I might show mercy to obviously bad survivors, but as a survivor the risk is too great.
1 -
I've inadvertently done something like this before.
Had that tome challenge to chase people for 90 seconds with Distressing on, so I just goofed off for the first half of the game...ahem, "chasing" people. There was one Claudette in particular that probably thought she was some looping god because I seemed unable to catch her.
Eventually they stopped doing gens and all ran over to click flashlights and teabag at the "baby killer" who clearly was no threat to them. Then they all started getting smacked. The Claudette was probably especially confused when she retreated back to the same loop from before and was immediately downed. 🤣
Post-game chat was conspicuously silent.

That's why my strategy worked. Some survivors see it coming, others not so much.

hehe I do this a lot usually because I'm just bad though and the survivors get cocky and three gen themselves without any effort on my part.
I did once pretend to be stuck in animation revving my bubba saw, just pressing forward and back in succession really quickly while 99'ing the saw for 2 mins. All the survivors crowded around to butt dance and taunt in front of me and then I let rip. 4k with one gen left. You gotta cherish the little things.
2 -
Alright, that genuinely made me laugh.

Haha I love it when survivors state the obvious and call me a camper :)
Must have been the tent i set up that gives me away :(

:)
The number of times I got stuck with a clipping error on a hedge or a pallet before the most recent update and usually most survivors would finish asap and leave but some more toxic teams would all taunt for ages so I'd have to just dc. This group was a rather nasty bully squad who really did out do me for experience so I thought what the hell maybe I can salvage a kill outa this with a lil deception.

Yea they aren't. Sometimes however it works and i get the hatch. Rare, but there is no harm in trying.

I had a game with David/Feng/Clau vs Wraith in Clown map, where Wraith (W) pretend to miss swing alot, drop survivors twice in early game. Then all other 3 just run around with him, while I alone did 2 Gen, just to make sure.
After a long fun, David got hooked, then get unhooked and being healed by Feng infront of W, then W hit David again and 2nd hook him. At this moment, Im sure W just acting bad. David got tunneled right after 2nd hook, despite Feng & Clau tried to protect hits. David died at 3 Gen left.
5 Gen done, I got hooked because Clau was in chase and found me hiding nearby. Feng unhook me with BT, I protection hit her and both run to the gate but she downed mid way. Feng got camped (no complain, because all Gen done). 2K, I & Clau escape

Pretending to feign weakness is a scumbag tactic. Why do you think it is a war crime to fake a surrender? It's one thing to fake out your opponent it's another thing to trick them into taking pity on you because of how MM is ######### right now and they don't want to be bullies.
Says I need to get a life, but then gets his kicks from taking advantage of the few nice players that exist in this game. CLASSIC.
2 -
Dude, it's a game. Is it a dick move? Sometimes, if the survivors take pity on the killer. More often than not, though, they take advantage and show how toxic they are. That said, it's nowhere near comparable to a war crime.
1 -
It's a scumbag thing to do. IDGAF how you justify it. It's cowardly to resort to these kinds of tactics. You won't change my mind.
1 -
My point is it's not comparable to a war crime in the slightest.
1 -
I never said it was. But the specific act of faking surrender is an act of feigning weakness, which is what this is. IT IS A COWARDS MOVE. Do it if you wish, but that's what it is.
"It's just a game bro" is a seriously lame excuse to be a dick.
1 -
What's CLASSIC about this?
It's their ######### choice, not mine. They don't want to kill me and instead let me escape, they know exactly what is happening and they decided it. Faking surrender is nothing close to this. I can't retaliate back at them. They're just letting me escape because they thought it's fine to lose emblem points or bloodpoints. What are you, some kind of god judge who decides what's scumbag in games? Any tactic is a good tactic in a game, if it wins you games. Examples: swf with ooo, abusing meta perks, tunneling, camping basement with insidious leatherface, going afk as wraith to farm xp, slugging as a nurse.
Get a life.

This isn't a thread about farming. It's a thread about pretending to be a rank 20 in a time when matchmaking is completely ######### and taking advantage of survivors.
Play how you want, but if you play like a scumbag I'm going to call it out.
0 -
So you did camp the person in the basement...and they were mad about it. Sounds like a legit response.
I thought you were going to say they accused you of "gen camping"...which is the most ridiculous thing I may have heard of a survivor saying to a Killer. But that just sounds like a typical proxy camp. For which they have a right to be annoyed. 🤷
Good job though. Its currently a lot easier on some maps to gen yourself as survivor with the map changes. You really gotta clock where all the gens are and plan accordingly. Harder to do as a solo though. You can't really control if your scardy-cat teammate focuses down 'easier' gens that end up ######### the team in the end.
1 -
Where did i mention farming? You are either senile or didn't read my response.
And by the title, this is a story thread.
Besides, i wasn't taking advantage of survivors by looking bad as a killer. You got that reversed. It's clear you aren't reading my responses. You may need to calm down mister. Unless you are calling out Orion's story here as what you are calling it out.

"They don't want to kill me and instead let me escape"
Sounds like a farming game. If not it's still not what is being talked about here. I'm talking about situations like the OP describes where you feign being a rank 20 to trick survivors.
1 -
Except it isn't like like what you quoted. That statement is extremely simplified. You know when the killer decides to not hook you and instead carry you to the hatch as long as you don't wiggle? That's what i was talking about. If you think that's farming, then you have never heard of feral frenzy.
About that second topic. I understand. It was unexpectedly aggressive of you to call it a scumbag tactic, which is why this got heated.
Goodbye.
