i'm seeing pages after pages of complaints and people that stopped playing the game
BHVR: This is fine, they just don't play clown enough.

Pages? How many people total? Weren't 70,000 people playing on PC alone a couple days ago?
Do you have anything constructive to add or is this the pure bait it looks like? 🤔

On Steam alone they've gained over 10,000 average within the last 4 months. And this forum is just a slither of the whole player base.
Besides, everyday there are complaints from as far as I can remember. Whether genuine relevant complaints, petty comments or troll posts it's no different. It'll calm slowly until the next dlc when the cycle continues, and that's not a stab at BHVR. It's just how it is.

those are people that came for silent hill. payed money, started realizing that the game is broken, then left with no refunds, that's the BHVR strategy. White knights

So why does the player count keep increasing if people are leaving?
2 -
it a slope, trust me, it will be lower again in a week or two.

The biggest rise was in average players was 4 months ago. The average increase within the past 30 days was the lowest increase. Considering there was so much debate on what the chapter was going to be, I cannot imagine 4 months ago people boosted up for Silent Hill. In fact, the only scale that you could possibly make such an assumption was the last 30 days section. The last four months does not support your belief.

True, because there's also a free weekend going on. Putting that aside, you're also right that new chapters bring in more players temporarily. However, the game has had an increased player count for a while now, during times of normalcy (not during a free weekend or following a new chapter release). How do you explain that?

First of all, why are you trying to defuse a discussion, isn't that the exact opposite of what this section is supposed to be?
Second, it's simple, veteran players leave the game, while new player fill up more rapidly, because in any game, there are more active new players than active veteran players.
If you put another cadaver in a coffin with another does not mean it has less space. (it's a metaphor)

The game has been growing for all of 2020. It's not just because of SH. The Mobile edition alone saw 1,000,000 people play the game within the first week. I've been playing this game since Clown and I can't tell you how many people have claimed the game will die very soon within those 2 years.
For all their faults Behaviour is making DBD a much better game than it was. ######### used to be a lot, a loooooot worse on all fronts. No one is white knighting Behaviour. We're just pointing out that for all the moaning of "the game is dead and people have stopped playing because of x/y/z" are ignoring the actual facts.
People said it when DS was nerfed, they said it when BNPs were nerfed, when exhaustion was reworked, when Legion was released, when the loading screen bug existed, when Legion was nerfed, when the Endgame collapse was added, when MOM was released, when MOM was nerfed, when Freddy was reworked, when the killer silent TR bug existed, when the Rifts were released, when BT was buffed, when ruin was reworked, when the maps were reworked, when toolboxes were reworked, when slugged survivors made no sound, when insta-heals were nerfed, and now people are saying it because they don't like the SH additions and because of survivor sound bugs.
Meanwhile while the official forums complained the game arrived on 3 new platforms (Windows Store, Switch, Mobile), continued to break sales and player records, and will be getting crossplatform play and saves along with a graphic overall of all the maps this year. Plus the addition of more licensed crossovers (SH and later Candyman).
If you want to see what a true 'dead' or 'dying' game looks like then take a gander at DBD's peers like FT13, Last Year, Predator: Hunting Grounds, Project Resistance, Souls at Stake and Deathgarden.

Not trying to defuse anything, we're having a conversation. Just because you're right about some points doesn't mean your overall conclusion is correct.
In other words, the game is growing. And given how many people I see with hundreds or even thousands of hours, I doubt player retention is an issue. Everyone gets bored of games, eventually.

lots of people play it, then it must be good.

Yes? Why else would people be playing it? Taste is subjective, but clearly those people must think it's good if they keep playing it.

I came for Silent Hill solely. I paid money. The game is broken? I haven’t really noticed other than a few glitches in matches but I’m also new so I’m sure I’ll notice more. I’m not gonna leave though because this is the closest thing to a new SH game I’m gonna get for a while, if ever again.

That's not what I said or implied though. I was just following OP's flawed logic. 🤷

that's pretty much all I get these days, so I learned to ignore it. It's not your fault, it's everyone's fault.
Everybody in this community only knows a few select words. Like life imitating art.

Its literally the same every single patch, you new to this community or something?

It seems like it's just the same handful just making same post over and over complaining together making it look like there's more than there actually is.

i'm glad someone actually talked about the post and not just the person behind it. I respect you.

People take breaks because they have either burnt out on the game or because another game has been released which they would rather pay attention to. I took a break just before the last BP event and returned last week. Player count will forever rise and fall with these types of games, nothing to really worry about unless that count drops too low and stays that low.

Dbd's player base is only increasing, i remember that a year and half ago-2 years less than 15k people were playing this game on average.
In the past year the player base reached 35-40k players on average (daily) and kept increasing till 45k this year.
The 75k people that played the game in the past week are playing bcs the game is free till 23 if im not mistaken, so we dont count them.
This is only on PC (Steam), as i heard, the community on consoles is a lot bigger

I said on the forums, not everywhere...

the increase in players over the "last few months" are definitely just because of covid 19 lol the game really is just a 6.5/10 game tbh according to metacritic which i agree tbh. it has lasting appeal great atmosphere, but lacks in gameplay department with its sometimes clunky situations.

WE DON’T TALK ABOUT PACHINKO.

I wonder how many of them have less than 100 hours on record
I also wonder why people that play 2 hours can submit reviews on steam

The issue with leaving posts is you never know if they did. Take steam forums some users posting still play the game. Maybe not as much but they never left.
Even the peak numbers don't represent much apart from active players. In a day it could be over 1 millions logged in for example and that is just one platform.
On here if there are say 10 posts that could be over 5 platforms due to pc having 2 now.
Overall people will always leave and vets can be some of the ones too go. I myself take breaks now and again as i play other games too. The games survival has to rely on new blood like all games in reality.

Only because people are opening Threads that they are leaving does not mean that they are actually leaving.
Most of those Threads are only attention-seeking.
