How do things like the current sound bug even make it past testing?
I don't mean this in like a sarcastic, malicious, or salty way, I'm genuinely curious. How does a bug this massive get past the devs before launch? How do they not notice that survivors make almost zero noise in a game that is heavily dependent on listening out for other players?

its inexcusable really. its probably goes down somewhere along the lines of, "gotta get this new chapter out, we'll patch it out in a hotfix in 2 weeks".

Same with that basement bug from a couple patches ago where getting hooked in it would have you suspended in the air forever and give the Killer a free kill. It happened often because all you had to was hook the Survivor in the basement, and sometimes they were the only hooks you could reach.

It really is. Like, there's a lot of bugs I usually excuse because I know development can be stressful and often more difficult than we tend to think, but this bug so heavily affects something that is so crucial to an entire side of the game even having the ability to play that it's inconceivable how it managed to get past the devs.

it didnt get past them im sure of it. They wholeheartedly knew about it going through with the update. Theres no way they didnt know.

The feeling when you down someone right NEXT to the basement stairs...and you gotta carry em to a normal hook to avoid being that guy...

No excuse at this point. BHVR KNOWS that their sound system is constantly messed up. They know this. It will be fixed for one patch and then broken again for the next several months.
Just this patch they were attempting to fix a sound bug. How could they not have a team of testers specifically dedicated to testing ALL sounds knowing that they tinkered with the sounds to fix the bug. They should be constantly testing the sound system every single patch because it breaks from seemingly miniscule, unrelated changes all the time.
They're 4+ years into this. I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt at first, but this just screams incompetence or, worse, complete neglect.

Wait, why?
What? I've been getting Basements hooks all week, what happened?

I meant when that bug was going on. There was a bug awhile back that hooking someone in the basement would glitch them up and basicly was a death sentence. Because of that until it was fixed... Had to avoid basement hooks if ya wanted to have a fair game and not abuse an exploit.

Most likely because the Sound Bug is (I imagine) something which is happening rarely and as long as it did not happen on one of the BHVR-PCs during testing, they dont know about it. Which is the general reason why Bugs make it in the game in the first place. You dont start a game 100 times to see if the sound is working. And even then, it might be possible that it is broken on attempt 101.
Like, my sounds have been perfect since weeks. And I read others on the Forum who also did not have any Bugs. While I have seen clear video evidence that sound bugs exist, I have not experienced it on my own (at least lately).

Oh! Gotcha!
Thanks!

BHVR - Testing? I'm pretty sure we all graduated why would we take a test, pfffft.
1 -
You're 100% right. It is incompetence and neglect.

I'm gonna take a guess that the bug was a lot larger than they could fix in time, especially since its gonna be right at the basics of the code which AFAIK is pretty spaghetti (even if it has been getting better recently). So they might not have been able to accurately detect the cause to create a fix in time, and with such a large outcry maybe they'll finally be able to focus full effort onto and fix it.
At least it doesn't bugger me up too badly since I'm used to being awful at tracking so I don't hear much to begin with lol.

This! BHVR is a slave (sorry for the term) to their own schedule. Killer every 3 months, mid chapter 6 weeks after that NO EXCEPTIONS
1 -
It's not even a matter of how it happens, but why does it happen so frequently.
I'm quite sure we yet to have a patch that doesn't screw up killer sounds in any shape or form.
I wonder how would the rest of the community react if survivors couldn't hear the killer TR, or killer powers every single patch

If it’s larger than you can fix in time then you don’t release it
0 -
They probably wanted to stick to the schedule and also maybe because of the anniversary event they had to get it out ASAP too. Let's face it sound hasn't worked in ages so...

Testing? I mean, Just look at the nurse, she can't even blink in some parts of the new map. At least for me, that means that they don't even test different killers if massive bugs like that make it live.

I remember when the devs announced they would go indepedent from their publisher, Starbreeze, to self-published, and how that would allow them to spend more time improving the quality of the game because there is no pressure to rush releases.
Turns out that was a lie I guess.

Heh ...

I think that they don't have the resources and can react to bugs with hotfixes.
To catch all sorts of bugs it would need excessive testing which probably is not in the budget and time.
Also lots of bugs are also very specific. I encounter a bug that I have not seen somewhere else. If I have streamlabs open and play dbd, I drop to about 5fps in midwich. Probably it is my hardware or driver version or something, still, they just cannot test everything in a timely manner.
1 -
Indeed, it's impossible to find every single bug. They would need to do literally everything that could be done in the game using every hardware and software combination in existence. That's simply not possible within a finite amount of time.
Take this sound bug that seems "obvious", for example. It isn't affecting everyone, meaning it's probably something that their systems have in common and not an issue with the game itself. If that thing isn't available to the devs for testing (possible due to budget constraints or just very rare and not worth the effort), this bug would easily slip past undetected.
1 -
Agreed, they should relax a bit with the chapters and dedicate several months only to bug fixing and optimizing, they can churn out cosmetics to get some money meanwhile.
We already have 20 killers and you usually see only 5 of them 90% of the time, why add more when the game has so much trouble with balance and bugs?.
1 -
Nah, there's no way anyone would be confused about this. Survivor make no sound. Not "less sound", just no sound whatsoever. There's no room for confusion here.

Saying you don’t have resources to fix bugs would be unacceptable for a game company. That would be like A burger place saying that 25% of their burgers are actually made of racoon meat but they sknt have the resources to find out which and still need to sell them all.

The thing is we’ve complained about, but lived with, the things you’re talking about. Working a gen I can spin my camera and actually find a spot where walls block the noise of the gen I’m working on so I don’t hear it lol. I’ve dealt with that.
Sometimes it may be people blaming sound, but the fact that a bug exists that makes it so that even 1/10 survivors have ZERO SOUND is unacceptable.

My point is that people can't not notice that they don't hear anything unless they themselves are already hard of hearing or deaf. It'd be like a sighted person going blind without realizing it, it's just not possible.
For all the pedants in the audience, yes, I am aware of Anton's blindness, please focus on the overall theme of what I'm saying.

I am also talking about the people who say they aren't experiencing the bugs. That's why I said it's not possible that they don't notice they can't hear anything, therefore they must be hearing things normally. Open up random DbD streams and see if everyone is experiencing the bugs, it should be easy to check.
0 -
Oh don't trip! They were aware of it but just simply didn't give a flying F.
0 -
The problem with the bugs about sound, is that not everyone is experiencing it...so trying to reproduce that in order to fix it, is very difficult.
I have no problems with the sounds in the game and only one person I know has an issue - and it happens to be intermittent. Trying to fix something like this where there's no obvious reasoning why it's affecting a small percentage of users over others, is not going to be easy in the slightest.
3 -
I play both sides and no I don't record my gameplay. I'm watching my friend stream now, killer main - no sound issues. As i said, that's the problem with this bug - it's not happening to everyone and it seems to be a relatively small portion of people that it is happening to.

hmm dont forget bhvr is not indie company anymore.. do you think that indie company can have 113 mil dollars in revenue ? I dont think so...
they have plenty of people just killer bugs arent priority as it always been. Of course they can tell you that it will case insane fire in killer population so they just keep telling lies and hoping that new cosmetics or new chapter will shut up people.. oh dont forget to buy new skin for 15 dollars tho :) its really sad about this..

Why do you need to see more videos of No sound? It’s not happening to everyone or every game, no one is claiming that. But there’s video evidence that it is happening at all and that should be enough.
0 -
what nonsense ? so you want to tell me that having no sound for survivor is a cons ? its bug whivh hurts killers and it was always been known that survivor bugs has priortiy from killer bugs.. no need to be rude bro ..whatever..

”survivor bugs have priority over killer bugs”
yeah, no. Bugs get fixed when they’re reported and found. Fixing survivor bugs is easier, because if you fix it for one you fix it for all. Fixing killer bugs means ensuring you fix it over 20 characters.

Yes, absolutely. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, an AAA game, sold 8 million copies by January. Assuming they sold for 60 USD each, that's about quadruple your figure, and it's just one game. EA as a whole has a revenue in the billions.

They have about 500 employees, if memory serves. They're not all developers, they're employees, which includes janitorial staff, HR, and other such non-game-related jobs. Even if 20% of them are developers, they're not all working on DbD.
But maybe you have a source that tells you stuff I don't know. Do you?

Let's not forget that BHVR is one of the best companies to work for lol, they don't overwork developers, are supportive of all employees, donate to charities, and even supply all employees with hot meals so they have cooking staff too lol.

The bug where you come up the basement stairs on the right and hit an invisible object?
The bug where players perks aren't displayed (don't get me started on SWFs being displayed)?
The sound bug where survivors still can't be heard moaning on the floor?
PTB (Public TEST builds) which are then modified afterwards before release?
Some of these bugs should be discovered quite quickly, however I would imagine that the sound bug will now be reset to day 1 for another 6-10 months.
Perhaps it is best viewed as everyone testing the latest Beta releases?

As far as I can tell they do not have a quality assurance team. It's really the only explanation for the last few patches.
0 -
Yep, or if they have one, they don't test enough.
Man, I don't how the game code is, but if they keep releasing patches that add more bugs than they fix, it wouldn't surprise me to see a REAL severe game breaking bug.
0 -
I get what you are saying. Still I work as a software developer and testing is just often done half heartedly. Hotfixing later is cheaper than excessive testing. At least this is what I have experienced so far.

This is a good idea of why things are the way they are https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spaghetti_code

there would be riots in the streets bro. Honestly thatll never happen though because BHVR loves their survivors.
